cheap poco f4 old flag ship snapdragon 870 cpu. hope it last.

What's your guys recommendation for a sub 200 phone locally. For my mum. Just very basic usage. As simple a UI as possible. 

Think her current phone is a Huawei

bad experience with Poco and Xiaomi Service Centre late last year, so would not recommend anything under Xiaomi stable.

Oppo has sub $200 phones and comes with 2 year warranty.

One thing that's bit annoying is that they haven't switched to usb c for entry level xiaomi and oppo. 

A17k and a17 are the cheapest oppo phones locally.

Note 12 is usb c. But that's one price bracket above. Not the budget level. 

I may get an export set. It's around 200. Same price as a local oppo A17.

This type of phones I probably won't claim warranty. 

Local set is more expensive about 250 for 4g. 320 for 5g.

I've a Xiaomi note 9s, phone is still in very good condition and battery still lasting even after 4 years, unlike other brands like Samsung. No chance to visit their service centre. Recently got a Samsung phone in shopee and came with 3 obvious paint peeling defects and they refused to exchange, bad experience with them.

I bought a redmi for my father last year. He is a typical ah pek. His needs are super basic. But seems to have issues charging it now. 

My MIL used a Huawei, now a low end Samsung. Basic user. Typical ah mah. Always complain have problems. 

I use a mid end Samsung. Use for 5 years also no issue. 

I suspect it is user issue and nothing to do with quality of the phone. Why is it always them with issues but not me, not my colleagues.

I have used at least 3 mid end ss phones. So far, all last more than 3 years without issues. No physical defect as well except for my last one which I accidentally dropped and busted my screen. I only change them as the hardware cannot handle the newer apps efficiently.

Yeah, same experience as me. Send Redmi Note 11 pro for warranty repair. They claim got water damage. I'm 100% sure it never get near water. Want to charge me over $500 for repair, more than what I paid for new. They can claim all they want. It's your word against theirs. I tell them to fxxk it. I'll never buy anything Xiaomi again.

Besides, bearing with the ads Xm phone comes with, although I've clean it up, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

15 month old Poco, saw available software update prompt so updated, phone went dead immediately after update. Xiaomi Service Centre say out of warranty so have to pay for evaluation fee and repair costs. month long battle with Xiaomi Customer Service and Xiaomi Service Centre ensued. and the land line at Xiaomi Service Centre nobody answer one. hence no more Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco.

Now, I switched to Oppo and OnePlus.

Except, I had problem with the Emergency call. Their apps, under Locked screen allows you to call 999 with 2 press of a button. My toddler called 3x already 999. Of cuz, I had to Lock the screen, but that created another stupid problem, I can't get rid of. It may be due to Google Android 12 or 13, I'm not sure.
