If there is a need for extra cycling lanes, all of the taxpayers will be paying for it anyway as of current arrangement. Just by taxing the cyclists will not result in a significant contribution as cycling lanes are pretty expensive. We are all paying for road structure development, drivers and non-drivers alike. Road tax, despite its name, does not equate to drivers' or motorcyclists' paid rights for the usage of the roads. It is simply a tax based on their engine capacities and engine output, further subjected to emissions banding. 

$100-$200 is referring to those lowest rung supermarket bikes which doesn't last. When I mention decent, I'm referring to slightly better brands such as Giant, Merida or even foldable bikes such as Tern, Dahon. All these are above $500 brand new and while decent enough for daily commutes, they aren't even considered the top end stuff. 

Agree that consistent enforcement and harsher punishment is the way to go to drill in proper behaviour. It's time to crack the whip.

As much as I agree with you.

Bcos many, cyclist here also are drivers/motorcyclist with licence so will follow regulations.... 

 

Later the food delivery cyclists that transited from PMD will also be affected if we call for licence or theory test.... and same application of traffic rules. 

 

Maybe the MySkillsFuture should include taking class 2/3 licence + basic and advance theory into the courses that can be claimed. 

That will allow more to be licenced.

This kind of cyclist.. even you build a dedicated path for them.. they still ride on the road.. it’s their mentality that a separate rule apply to them and law enforcement can’t do sh/t to them..

I'm all for implementing unique registration number for cyclist. We need to identify these law breakers so that our expensive video recorder can be put to good use. 

Minister of Transport and LTA, FYA please.

Just now at Nicoll Highway, saw 1 cyclist on the first lane, 1 cyclist on the 2nd lane, and a big group on the 3rd lane. Nicoll Highway only has 3 lanes, and all 3 lanes were occupied by cyclists.

I have called TP, and will submit my video to them should they request for it.

the answer is obvious. all the action being taken now is 治標不治本

Last time don't have so many pro riders in jersey, mainly more of leisure cycling in small groups. I started off quite young, on the roads often during my younger days, rarely will see groups of more than 10s. Now everybody is connected via social media, once a small group is form can easily grow to a very big one. 10-20 years back SG population also much lower. Now is like everywhere congested, cyclists, cars, PMDs etc all merging causing conflicts and self-entitlement.

thats why need make them register number plates. start from all the cycling clubs first

They know they cant get caught unless TP on the spot catch them. Its harder to trace them even u provide video, tp need alot time and resources to search these reckless cyclist

Best is registration number. I can pay for their registration no problem. Already paying for their road tax on their behalf. Good to make them get their own insurance also. This is the holistic solution for cyclist pests.
