Lorry altercation with cyclist at Pasir Ris

I showed the video to my 3 kids today.

 

The reaction from the girls were, " OMG, is the cyclist ok?"

 

The reaction from my boy was, " WTF, did the truck just hit that cyclist?"

 

We then had a discussion on the incident, and I am glad my years of educating them did not go to waste.

 

How many of you will show the video to your children, and tell them that the lorry driver did the right thing, and encourage your children to do the same thing to another human being?

Both are in the wrong, and 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

 

The lessons should be:

1) never be an aggressor

2) when encounter an aggressor, stay calm and don’t retialate in a way that will put you in jeopardy

 

In my opinion, it is dangerous to focus on lesson 2 because it’s lorry vs cyclist. Rather, the emphasis should be lesson 1, because if the kids learnt that they shouldn’t be aggressive towards others, they wouldn’t put themselves in the position to be retaliated against.

The worst the cyclist could achieve is to irritate the driver or force him to get into accident at low speed.

 

The worst the driver can achieve is to kill someone.

I did not ask for how you guys educated your children, we all have different styles and believe in our teachings, and that's just how it is. No body can judge on how one choose to educates their children. I am not here to judge too.

In the case anyone can be the aggressor, the lorry driver hoking and driving very closely to the unprotected cyclist with his big moving killing machine can be consider as the aggressor before the cyclist hit the side mirror?

 

Because the lorry was the aggressor, it resulted him paying the price of the cyclist hitting his side mirror? 

 

The story can be told from both side? 

 

Riding in the middle of the road is inconsiderate and irritating at most, so that action cannot be classified as being the aggressor?

I feel its safer for cyclist to ride on the right side of the double yellow line.. if there's 2 riders, the 2nd one will definitely almost be in the middle of the left lane.

 

Same logic for motorcyclist who ride in the middle of the lane.. safer for them.

KNN I think I am going to propose to LTA this.

 

All class 3 drivers must also take a compulsory road cycling course. And the end of the course, they must go on a ten in a team cycling test on the road. Employ this Mr Zhang the lorry driver to follow behind closely and keep hoking at them. Anyone ride out the line gets a big bang from the lorry. Now the drivers will get to feel how the cyclists felt on the road.

 

Also, all road cyclist must also take a compulsory modified class 3 course. At the end of the course, they must do a 2 hrs drive ard the island completing a few tasks given to them. Employ this CCB pig head  to ride in front of them in the middle of the road, anyone get too close to him or bang him, fail. Now the cyclists get a feel of how irritating it is to drive this way...

 

1.3,5 all roads close to cyclist,

 

2,4,6 all roads open only to public transports and cycling, no private transports allowed.

 

Sunday free for all. 

 

So drivers and cyclists only get to meet once a week on the road.

When he was knocked, he broke his fall by doing a roll over his right shoulder before he stood up

 

I didn't see his left shoulder or arm being in contact with the ground.

 

In the aftermath video, 11 to 12 second mark, both his hands were gesticulating. Didn't seem injured in any way.

 

Unker's video should have captured his movements then.

 

His injuries better be real, else he's gonna be condemned even more for faking it.

 

Anyway the article said the left arm was bandaged. But I 左看右看, his left arm didn't seem harmed at any time.

 

I think he is faking it.
