My car always park under hot sun until dash board melted like swiss cheese but the ICU never melted.

How come?

They use super plastic cannot melt one?

It's as hard wearing as your MIL.

You always wish it will die, but it never will. 😁

Motor Mouth: Is eye-in-the-sky ERP system becoming a pie in the sky?

PUBLISHED NOV 26, 2021

The consortium is working on a compromise. It is looking to see if it is feasible to transmit information from the OBU to a smartphone, so that the phone can take the place of the display touchscreen.

Hopefully, this is possible and the OBU's processor - its biggest component - can be placed out of sight and transmit information to smartphones wirelessly.

Meanwhile, LTA should ensure there is ample supply of cashcards up to 2024. The first generation of ERP in-vehicle units found in older cars can use only this type of card.

Yawn. I doubt it’s only chip shortage problem. I would think many many many other screw ups. so have an excuse to buy time to fix. As far as I can tell, It’s has been a huge waste of money. The new system is just doing pretty much the same as the existing system. Only thing is the new damn ugly IU will do is cost more and break more.

The old system has been reliable and every other country uses a similar version of it. Don’t hear other countries having  kpkb of the need to overhaul and replace.

Probably not only 1 chip. Many chips in the system. Also depends on which technology/process the chips are. There is a shortage for the larger nm chip.

Its precisely because the old one works well and everyone is using it that LTA needs to figure out a more comprehensive way of fleecing motorists.

Seems like project pivot to using cheaper tech now? No sound no picture and it's almost 2H2023...and probably one of the reasons why COE price so high also, as dealers are going to milk COE financing as much as possible before ERP2 (or is it ERP3?), LOL!

I have industry source that confirm installations will commence from July 2023 onwards.

Rollout will be done in batches with existing vehicle owners receiving letters to undergo the 1 to 1 replacement.

Official news will likely be released nearer to end may or by mid June.

Yes. No change to the IU design since it was finalised long before mass production started.

Really weird config, especially when compared to motorbikes with their 1-piece unit. Like this, might as well everyone install the 1-piece (wireless) unit?

as long as there is a customised firmware + security + powered up for signal ... can do a lot of things liao

it's not a passive reader or sensor
