Here is STOMP's choice for confession of the day. Today's confession is from an SMU student who told a guy off for not helping her, then found out he was the regional head of operations at the company she was interning at. Here is the confession in full: "Wow I had a totally sh!tty day. I’m currently taking a break to do a 6 month internship at a global commercial bank. I’m currently assigned to learn from one of the directors - follow him around in meetings and experience what top management in a bank is like. There’s quite a few of us from SMU, NTU and NUS. We’re basically all assigned to different mentors, but located on the same floor. "Today, I met this middle aged man at the pantry while I was trying to get myself a glass of water. We have this cool looking 2-in-1 water purifier and dispenser in our pantry which is manually replenished by the cleaner every few hours. I think the cleaner was late today so she hadn’t replenished the water yet. "Since I saw that middle aged man at the pantry, I just told him to replenish it. It’s pretty brainless stuff, just takes a bit of physical strength. He took one look at me and just walked away. I think guys who act like this are just embarrassing. So I shouted “And you call yourself a man?” He ignored me and kept walking. As I headed back to my office, I was going to tell my mentor about this guy, but we had to go for a meeting because the regional head of operations was giving everyone a briefing. "When we entered the conference room, I got the nastiest shock of my life. That ungentlemanly guy was actually the regional head of operations. And so the first thing I asked my mentor was “is his appointment higher than yours?” And he just replied me “You know the CEO for our bank in Singapore? This guy is one level higher – he’s the regional head for our banks located all over Asia.” Crap. I can’t use my mentor as a shield now. "After the meeting that guy decided to be a total a**hole. He pointed me out as the girl who asked him to refill the water dispenser. The conference room went dead silent immediately. In front of everyone, he told my mentor to 'QC your employee. If you can’t make her change her attitude, make her change her job.' What really surprised me was how NOBODY DARED TO SAY ANYTHING! Even the female directors all kept quiet and just scowled at me after the meeting was over. What a joke. Hello that guy acted like a jerk to me at the pantry everyone. Highest rank so what? "Then when we returned to the office, I was expecting the director to agree with me on how that guy is a douchebag or at least offer me some consolation. Guess what? He gave me another scolding when we got back. Wow thanks. I totally felt like crying after that." Read more stories from our Confession of the Day feature here
  2. Be it locals or foreigners, regardless of age group, we are bound to come across such people. I can say some are just spoiling for a fight or conflict. Should we take the soft approach or show them that we are not easy to bully? I am not referring to anyone in MCF. The context of the topic is the man in the street type of people. Those who want to take it out of context, please do so in other forums.
  3. my mother was looking at a bag at this shoplet when the sales-woman approached my mother and asked my mom if she wanted the bag ... my mom then asked her for the price. then woman then proceeded to ask my mom what color she wanted then my mom replied she just looking ... then immediately the woman took the bag away from the shelf and seemed to me straightening it as my mom opened the bag to look. And when she turned around and saw my mother still there, she just kept the bag and only put it back on the shelf when she saw us leaving.

Have a bad day? Today was the absolute worst day ever And don't try to convince me that There's something good in every day Because, when you take a closer look, This world is a pretty evil place. Even if Some goodness does shine through once in a while Satisfaction and happiness don't last. And it's not true that It's all in the mind and heart Because True happiness can be attained Only if one's surroundings are good It's not true that good exists I'm sure you can agree that The reality Creates My attitude It's all beyond my control And you'll never in a million years hear me say Today was a very good day Now read it from bottom to top, the other way, And see what I really feel about my day. 😄 Something I read on Facebook.
  5. Hi everybody who is reading this,Iam positng here not really to complain but to hear your voice regarding bus drivers on our roads. Recently,i noticed that bus drivers like to horn and high beam especially when I filter into their lane even though with a safe distant and speed and signal ON. Does any of u also notice this? and most of them seems to reluctant to give way too nowadays. Why are they doing this to purposely pissed off other road users? Let's hear from all of u and share your experience here.
  6. Some months back I bought four V12 tires from Hankook's Kaki Bukit outlet. Today I went back there for tyre rotation. For straight forward front to back/back to front rotation, they charge $15. However as my tires wear on the inner edge (especially the front), I requested that the front tires be swop to the opposite side and place at the rear, and the back tires moved to the front (no swop). This is to even out the wear so that the tires last. Obviously I am aware that two of my tires need to be removed from and remounted on the wheels and that involves extra work and cost. The staff at Kaki Bukit tried to discourage me giving reasons that the side wall is susceptible to damage if removed from the wheel. I do not accept the reason and insist on my way. Now they quoted me an extra $40 to do that on top of the $15 originally chargeable. As I felt that this is is way too expensive (I have done rotation in this manner before at a much cheaper rate elsewhere) but because since the tires were bought from them and I am already there, I tired negotiating for a lower charge. They insisted that that is their rate and will not barge. I suggested that they speak with their boss but only to get the reply that Robert is traveling. Since they refuse to pick up the phone to call their head office, I decided to call their Hotline instead. The hotline leads to the main outlet at Woodlands. At the other end of the line, is the sound of a Malay man who spoke english. I describe to him my issue and ask for a cheaper rate but he insisted on his rate and instead told me to go elsewhere. I was mad hearing that and ask for his name because I find that is very rude to come from a customer service hotline. He ignored me and hung up on me. On hearing my conversation, the Kaki Bukit staff (a PRC girl) agreed that her colleague's attitude was poor but stop short of an apology. I left the shop fuming, not because they refuse to give me a cheaper rate but because of the extremely bad service attitude from the hotline. Robert, if you are reading this post, I want to say I am utterly disappointed with Hankook's poor service attitude. You can insist on your charges but it is also a customer's right to bargain. If no agreement, at most I walk out. But to have your customer service staff telling me to take the business elsewhere when I have brought the business to you, is downright rude and unacceptable. Not forgetting that he refuse to divulge his name when I ask for it and he hung up the phone on me. Hankook has a good product but with such service attitude, I won't buy Hankook again.

  9. Manage to record this on the road using my DV168HD yesterday of a Lorry who uses hand signal to filter into the next lane and a GTR driver who I think is pissed off by this lorry cutting into his lane. After the traffic light, the GTR zooms off to cut into the lorry's lane and slow down to 20KM/H, just to block the lorry driver's way and also every car behind the lorry. What do you think of this GTR driver? From my point of view, I think the lorry driver did nothing wrong as I was behind the lorry and witness everything. Lorry driver already signal his intend as his lane is under construction and he has no choice but to filter to the other lane. Another funny thing is that I horn this GTR driver for blocking my way and he starts to drive away at normal speed to the other lane and after about 1KM, he slowed down on the left lane. I thought he was turning into the left but NO!! He was waiting for the lorry as it was stuck in another traffic light and from my rearview mirror I can see that the GTR is slowing down to wait for the lorry in order to block the lorry again.
  10. Mr Khaw conveniently forgot to mention that the 'reality in the workplace' is exactly what the PAP created for us. But ignoring that fact for the sake of argument - can 'right attitude' alone really overcome all the obstacles set out for Singaporeans today? -------------------------------- Youth can thrive with the right attitude: Khaw By Teo Xuanwei, TODAY | Posted: 30 May 2011 0637 hrs National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan SINGAPORE: Stiff competition posed by foreigners is a reality youths entering the workforce today have to face in a globalised world. But Singaporeans have little cause for concern if they have the "right attitude", National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said at a dialogue session on Sunday. The session, which was attended by 230 youths, was organised by the Sembawang GRC youth executive committees. Drawing reference to the national drive for higher productivity, Mr Khaw said the right skills, training and attitude will keep Singaporeans ahead of the game when asked how Singapore youths can stay relevant in the labour market with the influx of foreign students. "Our education system is not bad ... we have made leaps and bounds. So I don't think we need to feel diffident. We can win, we can compete but we must have the right attitude," he said. Mr Khaw noted how early migrants had overcome the country's resource-scarce conditions through sheer grit, to transform the Republic into a modern nation admired by the world over. "We must be prepared to work hard and if we stay united, the future will continue to be better for Singapore. This, I am confident." This was crucial as less developed economies, such as Vietnam, have shown that they are hungrier for success and are willing to work harder, he added. Mr Khaw also gave the assurance that the Government has heard the feedback from Singaporeans about the number of foreigners here and reiterated the message that it will calibrate the pace of allowing them in. But he reiterated that slowing the rate of influx has its downsides. With fewer foreigners to bolster the tight labour market here, economic growth, and consequently, job opportunities and wages will be impacted. - TODAY

  13. Was on West Coast Highway after roundabout towards city this morning at about 9.30 +/-. On the 1st lane and saw one Mercedes trying to get out from right hand/U turn slip lane. Brake hard to give way for this burger who inches himself out. That's was OK to me, didn't horn nor flash my headlight at him as I was in a good mood. But, blardy hell, what I was recriprocrated was, he move off so slowly and hogging the 1st lane (right most lane)!!!!!! when there is sufficient space in front of him to accomodate 3 mega 10,000 TEUs container vessels. In the end, I have to overtake on the left. The car plate is SBB9999
  14. SKorean granny fails driving test 771 times SEOUL (AFP) - - A dogged South Korean grandmother has failed her driving test 771 times, police said Thursday, but a local newspaper reported she will keep trying. The 68-year-old, identified only by her last name Cha, has taken the test almost every working day since 2005 in the southwestern city of Jeonju. She failed again Monday for the 771st time. "It was a record-breaking number here," Choi Yong-Cheol, a police sergeant supervising the test in the city's Deokjingu district, told AFP. "I wonder if she will try it again for a 772nd time." The Korea Times said Cha will in fact be back for another attempt. Choi said that Cha cannot pass the preliminary written section of the test, averaging scores of 30-50 whereas the pass mark is 60 out of 100. Local media said that Cha sells food and household items door to door at apartment complexes, carrying the items in a handcart, but wants to get a car for her business. Police estimate she has spent almost five million won (3,600 dollars) to take the written test, with each test costing 6,000 won in addition to other expenses. "I feel sorry every time I see Cha fail. When she passes, I'll make a commemorative tablet myself and give it to her," one officer was quoted as saying.
  15. During the Hari Raya holiday, I was cruising on the PIE from Bedok towards town. Beside me was my date and I have no other passengers. Barely 5 minutes on the expressway, a lorry was blocking me on lane 2. I know my car is not a speedster, so I waited for a chance to overtake the lorry which was going quite fast at 70 kmph. When lane 1 was clear, I stepped on the accelerator and began to overtake the lorry slowly. Out of nowhere, came this Redplate black Sunny SJJ6xx5 came up tailgating me. Comeon man, I'm doing my best overtaking the lorry! This redplate Sunny driven by a young Malay chap with a girl beside him is very impatient. He thinks his spoiler is very cool and his car is very fast. After I managed to slowly overtake the lorry and filter back to Lane 2, he still not happy. He weave in and out to get beside me at to Lane 3, gestured me to winddown the window and shouted "Poor Is It? Buy China Van! Next time DON'T HOG!" Or something like that. Sheesh! Sunny very fast meh? Sunny very sporty meh! Big deal!

  18. It had been widely publicised in the press that many Singaporean had been conned in MY over the scratch-and-win scams and still Singaporean still falling for it. I had posted once is this threads of several couples been conned at the car park of Makotar Parade, Malacca in the form of lucky draws & scratch-and win. Its happen again on Monday, this time at a petrol kiosk in Johor Baru. As reported in today New Paper and last Monday Sin Min Daily. The report: His holidays made him poorer by $6,500/-. All because Mr. Zhang, 40, a Singaporean businessman, fell victim to the "scratch-and-win" syndicate. Mr. Zhang was approached at a Johor Baru petrol station (name not given) just as he was about to drive back to Singapore. He said that a Chinese woman in her 20s approached him, asking if he was interested in taking part in a lucky draw. He agreed, thinking there was nothing wrong with trying his luck. He scratched a card that the woman gave him, and it revealed a picture of several cars. The woman congratulated him and asked him to follow her to an office near the petrol station. At the office, a man claimed to be the woman colleague told Mr Zhang that he stood a chance of winning a PDA, a car, cooker hoods, television sets and a trip to Japan. Mr Zhang was told that if he paid RM15,000 ($6,500) for taxes and fees, he would have a chance of winning four cars. Believing the man, Mr Zhang made payment with his credit card. When he scratched the booklet, it showed he had won only four cooker hoods. The man refused to give a refund, saying that Mr Zhang was unlucky and could not blame the company. Paying $6,500/- for 4 cooker hoods...... Its show that the man is either plain ignorant or boh chap attitude as he believe that it will not happen to him. Ignorant is out as he is a businessman and should able to think and make decision. So......... it left to his attitude that misfortune will not happen to him or blinded by the 20s years old ..... Also reported that billions reaped in annual profits as millions of consumers cheated in MY.
  19. Saw this ad selling a used Mar 07 Mazda 6 @ $68k and sms the sales person to ask for the best price. The salesperson reply asking me to go down to take a look at the car and further discuss on the price. And I reply him that I do not want to waste my trip if price is too high..and guess what is his reply..he reply me not to waste my trip then..I seriously doubt the service standard..with such high price posted, it is naturally interested party would like to know roughly the more reasonable price...on Sat ST, the new car is posted at $72k...for 4k more, I rather get a new car..this is really ridiculous..and very lousy service.
  20. Hi, was on ECP to Cantonment after picking up my sister from Japan when I encountered a motorist who think he's exhibiting cool aggressive driving(IMHO, he's actually driving recklessly). He entered the expressway, drive all the way from extreme left to right without signalling or checking his blind spot and was about to swerve into lane 1 (he tink maybe he machiam Initial D, drifting from lane to lane???) had I not horned him (which IMO, I think he nber noticed I was beside him). He had to jam his brake to avoid kissing a car on 2nd lane. My eldest sis from Japan said that she would like to take over the wheels & show the chap a thing or two about real aggressive driving just to teach him a lesson. Wah I cannot imagine what the outcome would be like if she's behind the wheels cos she's a really experienced long-haul driver plus with her fair share of aggressive driving experiences contributed by trailer drivers over there.
