Singapore and Malaysian police recovered six vehicles worth more than RM$480,000 (S$197,000) last Wednesday in a joint operation. Acting on information received from the Royal Malaysian Police through Interpol, officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) launched an operation at the Brani Terminal to intercept two containers which were en route to Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. It was believed that a car-smuggling syndicate operating in Malaysia had been involved in the illegal trading of stolen Malaysian-registered vehicles and was using Singapore as transit for the stolen vehicles. Six Toyota Hilux cars which had been shipped in two containers from Port Klang to Singapore, where they were unloaded to be shipped again to Jebel Ali, were recovered. Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate had falsely declared the contents of the containers to avoid detection. Kuala Lumpur (The Star/ANN) - Malaysian police have smashed a car theft syndicate which supplies vehicle parts in the illegal market in the peninsula. Six men, in their 30s, were arrested and more than 5 million ringgit (US$1.6 million) worth of stolen car spare parts were recovered, making it the biggest car theft ring to have been busted this year. Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said a special operation conducted raids in Malacca and Johor on April 8 and 9 respectively. In Malacca, police raided three houses in Batu Berendam and Durian Tunggal, which were used to store car parts. "The dismantled car components, including engines, were taken from stolen vehicles," he said. He added two men were detained while six cars and a lorry were seized during the raid. In a follow-up operation, police raided five places in Johor Baru, including two spare-part dealerships and a storage facility. Four men were arrested. Comm Bakri said police recovered 1,603 car parts totalling about 5 million ringgit from various Proton models including Wira, Saga, Iswara Aeroback, Waja and Hicom lorries. He added the police believed they have solved at least 250 car theft cases by the syndicate. Comm Bakri said the cases were being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft. The six have been remanded to facilitate investigations. On the Sarawak election, Comm Bakri said the police have adequate personnel to oversee public security during the period. Feb 23, 2011 2 online sex syndicates in private flats busted POLICE busted two online vice syndicates operating in private apartments in a nine-hour operation on Monday and arrested four males and 15 females. The 19 - aged between 22 and 41 - were nabbed for suspected involvement in vice-related activities. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department conducted raids at several locations, including Clementi, North Canal Road, Jalan Rajah and Rangoon Road. Cash amounting to about $14,000, laptops, notebooks, condoms and other related items such as mobile phones, were seized in the raid. The syndicates are believed to have advertised their services via Internet websites, where potential customers could book their services. Investigations against those arrested, are going on. Those found guilty of offences under the Women's Charter shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to five years and also be liable to a fine of up to $10,000. Repeat male offenders are also liable for caning.

Actor Christopher Lee to retain permanent resident status By Lynda Hong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 12 July 2007 2101 hrs SINGAPORE: MediaCorp actor Christopher Lee will retain his Singapore Permanent Resident status, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Fans of Lee have been concerned about his PR status after he was jailed for drink driving related offences. So the reply from the ICA should come as good news to them. The ICA has completed its review on Lee's case and decided to allow him to retain his PR status. He will, however, come under close observation. In making known the outcome of the review to the actor on Wednesday, the ICA said it would revoke its current decision should he violate the law again. Lee will be performing in a charity show for the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) this Sunday. Other stars taking part in the show include his girlfriend, Fann Wong. - CNA/yy
