  1. A video showing a white car failing to check for oncoming traffic while doing a right turn has gone viral. Unfortunately, the consequences were unpleasant as a Foodpanda motorcyclist was killed in the process. The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old deliveryman from Malaysia, was unconscious when help arrived and eventually succumbed to his injuries at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He was reported to have been thrown 30 metres due to the impact and suffered brain injuries as a result. According to Stomp, the accident took place at the junction of Toh Guan Road and Boon Lay Way at 7.58pm on the 10th of March. The 36-year old Mercedes-Benz driver has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. There has been a debate that discretionary right-turn junctions should be abolished as there has been an increase in accidents related to it. Could this signal an end to such junctions?
  2. Just got word that VAG Singapore (private workshop) has opened a specialized Audi and Volkswagen service and tuning workshop in the Toh Guan area. Their website is www.vagsg.

  4. I just changed to a set of Hankook Ventus V12 today at the Toh Guan branch. Got a pretty good deal for the 235/45 R17 size as they were a slightly older DOM batch which they were clearing stock. Chin, the supervisor there was not pushy and was honest in his assessment of older tyres describing their downsides. However, they did not have the S1 or RS2 with the size I wanted so decided to give it a go given the price offered. Besides that, I was very impressed by the professionalism of the staff at that branch. They took great care in installing my new rims which I brought along ensuring they weren't scratched in the process. Utilising the $55 discount to change my 2.5 yr old battery, they did it the old school way with the engine on to ensure that the radio settings are retained and the ECU wasn't reset. The same can't be said for some other tyre shops out there. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and kudos to the team there. I would definitely go back for a tyre change when the current set wears out. As a side note, my initial impression of the V12 do seem pretty grippy in wet weather in comparison to the RE001 which I was on previously. But I guess the tyres have not been fully scrubbed in yet so it would not be fair to draw any conclusions this early.
  5. GEORGE TOWN, PENANG - The missing diamond from statue of the Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Yin) Temple in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling was recovered today. A police spokesman said an investigating team found the precious gem stone hidden in the pile of shattered glass casing which contained the deity. He also said a 35-year-old suspected burglar whom was beaten up prior to his arrest on-the-spot remained in a stable condition in the Penang Hospital. "We have not found any diamond in possession by the suspect. Our team combed the scene and managed to find the glittering diamond inside the broken glass pieces," he said. The spokesman added that a temple manager mounted the diamond back to the forehead section of the deity in the premises this morning. It is believed that the diamond was originally placed on the statue's forehead since the inception of the historical Kuan Yin Temple some 200 years ago. It was reported that the 35-year-old man had failed in his attempt to steal the diamond in the 1pm incident. He apprarently used a hammer to smash the glass case of the statue. The noise prompted a 45-year-old caretaker and two other men to track down the suspect who wast trying to escape from the temple. The suspect barely made it outside the temple before he was overpowered by the trio near an altar and handed over to the police.

  7. Hi. I just got my new set of tyres (KU31) from Guan Lee Tyre & Co situated at Eunos Ave 5. I am very pleased with the service provided by Mr. Tay, the boss. He is a very friendly and unassuming person. This is my first time there and I am impressed. While he was changing my tires, a malaysian motor cyclist came in with a punctured tire. He helped him check and patched for him for free. Thumbs up for his service!
  8. A video was recently posted online, alleging that a HDB block may be haunted. The shaky video, at nearly eight minutes long, is titled "Government build a Haunted HDB flat". The flat in question is Blk 279, at Toh Guan Road. In the video, the block is quiet, and indeed looks quite eerie as the lights in the block, including at the ground floor, lift lobby and stairwell, constantly flicker on and off. There are no spirits captured in the video, and it could well be an anti-government statement to criticise the authorities on what appears to be faulty lights in the whole block. Others speculate that the video could be an attempt to make people think that the estate is "unclean", which may lower the value of the flat. This is because the flats at Toh Guan Road are the priciest in the Jurong East area. For the residents though, the inconvenience is real, as some say they are frustrated with the problem, suspected to be caused by faulty circuits. One resident, Xu Rui Juan (53, housewife) says that the flickering lights in the area makes it quite scary at night when residents return home. See the video here:
  9. hello, has anyone got a good lobang for the above? i had a try the last time at 1 of the chinese clinic in jurong and i felt so 'light' after that
