  1. Parallel imported cars has been in the Singapore automotive market for decades. They offer car buyers alternative choices other than those selling in authorised dealers, bringing car models that authorised dealers don't bring in, and provide cheaper choice of almost similar models sold by authorised dealers. Although in the recent years, there have been some unscrupulous PI dealers practicing unethical practices of business, however, this only represnts the minority and parallel imported cars still remain a favourite choice for Singaporeans. PI market still consist mainly of JDM models although continental cars forms a fraction of the sales as well. Let us see some of the PI cars imported to Singapore in the past and presently. I'll start with JDMs. 1. 6. Hi guys, First time purchasing an Estima from a PI. Am thinking that I should be going to those reputable servicing centres like Stamford Tyres or Autobacs regularly. Is there any recommendations? Thus far I only know of these 2. The reason why I cited these 2 is because they have more state of the art machines as compared to those smaller one?? (Pls correct me if I am wrong) Thks.
  7. Does any know how to tell the difference between a PI new car, and a PI import used car, when buying them second hand? Car dealers tell me the car's mileage is likely to have been adjusted regardless of imported new, or imported used, especially if the manufacturing date is far from the registered date. Do hope to find out more, as second hand cars in the local market, which are classified as PI does seem more attractively priced in the market
  8. Cycle & Carriage, the authorised agent for Mercedes-Benz in Singapore, has riled parallel importers with a series of ads pointing out the shortcomings of parallel-imported Mercs, resulting in advertising authorities stepping in. According to local media reports, an ad by Cycle and Carriage read: "Cheaper Mercedes-Benz cars do come with standard accessories. Headaches, stress, sleepless nights, to name a few." The Automotive Importers and Exporters Association (AIEA), a trade body of about 75 parallel importers, has filed complaints with the authorities over the newspaper advertisements. AIEA's VP Lim Tze Yong was quoted complaining that the ads were "not justified" as they gave the impression that parallel-imported goods were counterfeited. The ASAS has since informed Cycle & Carriage that the ads had to be modified "in accordance with the Singapore Code of Advertising Practice" but has not received any acknowledgement from the firm. Since parallel importers appeared in the early 1990s to break Cycle & Carriage's 40-year monopoly on selling Mercedes-Benz, the rivalry between the two sides has been bitter. But barring an ad Cycle & Carriage took out in 1996 - saying it would not honour warranty cards of parallel imports - the publicly listed automotive group has largely adopted a 'live and let live' attitude. But industry watchers said the shrinking car market as well as rising competition from BMW might have prompted Cycle & Carriage to take a stronger stand now against parallel importers, which typically account for 8 per cent to 15 per cent of Mercedes sales here. Since the new E-Class launched in 2009, there has been a significant rise in parallel imported Mercedes-Benz all around the island, most of which were offered about 10% cheaper than the Authorised dealer. The rise in Merc parallel imports last year could also be due to the recession. One industry observer said there are still people who want to buy a luxury car during poor economic times but may not want to pay as much. 'So they go shopping for a parallel import,' he said. 'That is why a good proportion of the PI cars is made up of used luxury models less than three years old, imported from countries like Japan and the UK.'
  9. In light of recent re-call issues faced by their fellow competitors, Mazda Motor Singapore is taking a step forward in protecting their brand as a whole. The car dealer has enlarged their tent to include Mazda Parallel Imports under their service wing. Singapore owners of parallel-imported Mazda vehicles in stock condition can now service and repair them at Mazda Service Centres at Alexandra and MacPherson. Well, it doesn't end here. With the service centre being equipped with Mazda Modular diagnostic system with direct technical support from Mazda Corporation in Japan, Parallel Imported owners can now give their cars the real Mazda treatment at the two service centres. Receiving bi-monthly technical data and updates from Mazda Corporation in Japan allows Mazda Motor Singapore to assist in ensuring preventative recommendations and corrective actions to be conscientiously observed to protect every Mazda's well-being Additionally, the distributor also sends their workshop managers on special technical training organized by Mazda Corporation, Japan for each new model launched to guarantee detailed understanding of each of the entire model range. With the common misconception that servicing at a distributor tends to be more expensive than independent workshops, the distributor assures that in actuality, their maintenance packages are priced very competitively as compared to individual services at independent workshops. To provide owners with a better peace of mind, all repairs by Mazda Motor Singapore are warranted for 6 months or 6000 km*. This something you won
