Covid-19: POSB app crashes briefly on Apr. 14 as govt credits S$600 payout to S'poreans source: https://mothership.sg/2020/04/solidarity-payment-posb-app-crash/ Singaporeans will be receiving a S$600 payout credited directly in their bank accounts on Apr. 14. And it seems like Singaporeans are anticipating this cash payout. Just after 12am on Apr. 14, POSB users encountered this error message when they tried to log into their POSB digibank app. What is the S$600 Solidarity Payment? Announced by finance minister Heng Swee Keat on Apr. 6 as part of the Solidarity Budget, the Solidarity Payment consists of: S$300 brought forward from an earlier-announced Care and Support Cash payout And additional S$300 The Solidarity Budget, said Heng, aims to save jobs and protect the livelihoods of Singaporeans during this period of heightened Covid-19 measures. This S$600 Solidarity Payment, said Heng, would be credited into Singaporeans' bank accounts by Apr. 14. Those who did not provide their bank accounts to the government will receive a cheque, which will be issued in stages from Apr. 30. The remaining portion of the Care and Support cash payout will be brought forward to June 2020. This includes: The remaining S$300 or S$600 from the higher tiers of the Care and Support cash payout The additional S$300 payout for each parent with at least one child aged 20 and below The S$100 PAssion Card top-up, which will be given in cash, for Singaporeans aged 50 and above. And if you're wondering how the three budgets — the Unity Budget announced on Feb. 18, the Resilience Budget announced on Mar. 26, and the Solidarity Budget announced on Apr. — will sustain vulnerable Singaporeans through the months ahead, here's a nifty infographic:

  4. AXA Insurance Singapore is making a test case out of its bid to reject any payout to the family of Chinese national Ma Chi, the Ferrari driver who died in a high-speed crash which left two others dead and two injured. If it succeeds in its High Court move, there will be insurance implications for other motorists, especially owners of the growing number of high-performance sports cars here. The insurer claims Mr Ma's recklessness meant that the May 12 tragedy was a "collision" and not an accident, and therefore it should not pay any compensation to his estate. If the courts agree, the insurer will be allowed to claim from Mr Ma's estate all third-party compensation it pays to the other victims. 6. New from InSing.com http://news.insing.com/tabloid/woman-wins-...out/id-7de93e00 Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino is refusing to pay a woman her jackpot winnings of more than $410,000. Mdm Zhu Yun Ping (50, hawker) had visited the casino with some foreign friends and her store helpers at about 5am on this Tuesday, 18 October. She described what happened to reporters, "I was playing on this jackpot machine until 6am and my stored value card had already accumulated about $800 in winnings. Suddenly, I struck the Bonus Cash jackpot of $416,742.11." At the time, Mdm Zhu was confused with what happened until a bystander explained to her that she had struck a jackpot prize. Many other casino patrons also came up to her to congratulate her on the win. She continued, "Soon after, the manager of the casino came up to me and told me that the jackpot machine had malfunctioned. The manager explained to me that the machine's top prize is a car, and that its highest cash payout is only $50,000, so I could not have struck that Bonus Cash prize. The manager also explained that I could get $258,962 if I decide to sell the car back to the dealer." Mdm Zhu refused to settle with the manager's explanation and insisted that she was entitled to her win, which the jackpot machine clearly displayed. At that time, a casino patron had also stepped forward to help her by taking a photo of the displayed cash prize as evidence. The man was however, stopped by casino staff who warned him that photo-taking is not allowed in the casino. The staff then asked the man to hand over his phone and indicated that they will be deleting the photo. The man was then escorted out of the casino. Mdm Zhu has lodged a complaint with the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore, which is currently investigating the case. The police have also explained to her the forms of legal action she can take. Source: Shin Min Daily News, 20 October 2011. Click here for the Chinese report. If you are the winner in this case, will you accept the cash price of $$258,962 by selling back the car to the casino or you die die want to claim the Cash jackpot of $416,742.11?

  9. Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Sep 25, 2008 'Dead' man jailed Shamsul plotted with wife and others to get payouts by faking death By Elena Chong A MAN played dead so he could claim Central Provident Fund (CPF) and insurance payouts totalling almost $270,000 - and then blew the whistle on himself to prevent his Indonesian wife from getting her hands on more of his insurance money. Yesterday, Shamsul Bahri Lamaon, 44, was sent to jail for 42 months for the scam. He admitted to conspiring with his wife, Madam Rima Triyana, and others to deceive the CPF Board into believing he had died of a heart attack in Indonesia. The board released $143,142 to the Public Trustee in 2006 as Shamsul had not nominated a recipient for the funds. The unemployed man also plotted with his 34-year-old wife and others to cheat Great Eastern (GE) Life Assurance of $125,690 in the same manner. The money was paid to Madam Rima in October that year. The remainder of the total death claim of $325,940 was intended for Shamsul's son, who was a minor. In sentencing Shamsul, District Judge Liew Thiam Leng said it was important to deter other like-minded offenders. He noted that two institutions were involved, and that the amount involved was substantial. In 2004, Shamsul, then an engineer, was posted to work in Jakarta. He owed money to a few financial institutions as a result of credit card debts. Two years later, he quit his job. His wife then hatched a scheme to fake his death and use fraudulent documents to file claims with the CPF Board and GE. He agreed to go along with it. They wanted the money to run a business, buy a house and pay for their children's education. To avoid detection, Shamsul remained in a village at Surade while his wife went about getting the fake documents to show that he had died of a heart attack on April 20, 2006. She then flew to Singapore in August 2006 to make her claims. Both institutions approved the claims. The CPF Board lodged the money with the Public Trustee pending a claim on the money by Shamsul's next of kin. GE paid Madam Rima her share of the payout. In January this year, fearing that his wife would get the insurance money meant for his son, Shamsul asked his cousin to alert GE to stop the payment, and to tell the company he was alive. He was arrested on Feb 4 when he arrived from Jakarta. His wife is at large. The CPF money was later reinstated to his account. Pleading for leniency, Shamsul said he was remorseful and did not get a single cent from his wife. He said his mother was taking care of his three children and had difficulty doing all the housework by herself. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined on each charge.
