First, they use ball bearings for the motor, cheapo fans use cheaper sleeve bearings. KDK fans even have a pcb with what looks like high quality polypropylene capacitors. Cheaper fans just hang the components around the motor like a Christmas tree. 😄 These capacitors are likely not made to last, but they are simply dirt cheap. Recently, I buy a few types of components. There are the regular components which costs 10x as much as a Chinese part. They may look the same, but wow, the price is a big difference. The cheaper parts likely don't last as long. And in a DC fan (unlike AC fan), electronic components plays a major role. They are used to generate electrical power, which spins the motor, with the help of magnets. Now, if you start using cheap Chinese electronic parts, hmm.. I think they are not likely to last long. 😁 Well, just my thoughts. I don't know there is any special technology for ceiling fan other than the material and remote control. Mine is SDG 60 from JB and it works for years without any problem. Nothing fanciful just fan without light.
Kb27 Supersonic December 27, 2023 Share December 27, 2023 hmm... what brand of fan ? looks dangerous. 😄 'Threatening to harm our reputation': Company on 'aggressive' customer demanding $5,000 after fan's blade broke Though this predicament was brought about by a fan, it's quite certain that neither party is a fan of the other. Local company Point One Technology has called out one of their customers for being "aggressive" after the latter's ceiling fan broke to which she subsequently demanded $5,000 as compensation. The company had sent out a press release regarding this incident on Tuesday (Dec 26). Their customer, Sandy Ong, had posted a video of the incident which took place last month on Facebook group Sg Renovation on Tuesday too, along with pictures of the damaged fan. "The most harrowing experience in our lives," Ong wrote on her post. "Can't imagine what would have happened if our kids were home at the time." In the video, loud crackling and rattling sounds can be heard before a fan blade falls into view, colliding with a portrait on a wooden shelf before spinning out of sight. Then, another black piece of plastic identified as the "trunk" of the fan also falls at the other end of the room, hitting a table before tumbling to the floor. "The impact was deafening as the fan was going full speed," Ong wrote in the post's comments, adding that the fan was installed four years ago. "In our personal experience with the brand of this fan and this incident, we strongly do not recommend the brand. Not only was the incident so distressing, but dealing with them was too." 2

They were one of the first local fan companies with wifi and google home integrated fans, that is not haiku fans etc. But now, wifi integrated fans are quite commonly available. Like Prism has them as well. But my home got 2 rooms is using workaround of broadlink app and broadcom RF emitter. Cos the remotes are bit spoilt already.

And ceiling fan mostly blows straight downwards so you have dead spot around it. Ever consider oscillating fans that hangs off the ceiling ?

Replacement Fan WiFi remote modules are only about 20 bucks on Shopee. Shouldn't pay too much premium over regular fans.

It's just the layout of my living/dining which is divided by beams as the balcony is closed off already. I have 2 in living room, 1 over sofa, 1 over piano. I have 2 in dining area cos its divided by beams. So 3 of them are small 38" ceiling fans which are the smallest size available. I'm a sweaty boi. Can't stand not being cool. macrosszero Turbocharged December 28, 2023 Share December 28, 2023 Not Point One Eco but I once went to a local home appliance showroom to look for ceiling fans. They were heavily promoting another popular local brand Fanco. They carried KDK but only a few models were in the showroom. And were very expensive. I told the salesperson I could get the same models from Malaysia at about half the price, to which he claimed Malaysian quality was different. I said I have been using another Malaysian-sourced KDK for 10 years with no problems at all. He could only say, are you sure you want to risk your money and safety buying a product with no local warranty? I said yes, and walked off. Later I started noticing many many complaints about Fanco on Facebook. Just my opinion but I would rather take a parallel imported product from well-established brand than try to seek warranty for an unknown brand with a local distributor. It surely isn't 10 years worth of warranty most of the time.
Lala81 Hypersonic December 28, 2023 Share December 28, 2023 OK installed. It's a 52 inch replacing the haiku 56 inch so wind speed definitely weaker. It's OK at near max speed 5-6. Purely for aesthetics. Look at the remote sizes... Wtf. The white one is the old haiku. Acorn one vs the fanco TV sized remote. The installer say cannot compare sir... Budget vs premium product. 2
