Yaloryalor 5th Gear April 30, 2014 Share April 30, 2014 i feel that better city planning and encourage company to have stagnate working hours could help to reduce the jam in city or highway too. there are many ways to do it without involving $$$ if the govt really want to help reducing road congestion. all govt offices start work at 10am and end at 730pm...something like this could make a different. For those parents need to send and fetch their kids to school in the morning how? Change in schooling time? Fir those parents need to fetch their kids from child care how? Change in childcare centre operating hours? Child care centre prepare dinner for the kids? Those govt offices employee has to work later than normal office hours. Increase their salaries to attract them? Talk is easy. ↡ Advertisement
Throttle2 Supersonic April 30, 2014 Share April 30, 2014 I read it as "Let It Go"... Sorry, I'm blind sometimes.. Anyway, with regards to what you've said, recently (or maybe not so recently, but it stuck in my head.) I read something that stuck with me. Affordability is not something to be calculated. Most people don't calculate whether they can afford a sweet or candy. If the calculators need to come out, then it's highly likely that it's not affordable. (Different from doing calculation between products to see which is the most value for money). Yes, affordability is having enough money to pay for. In my old school world , it is having your own money without having to borrow , beg, steal, fret , scrimp and worry. However for many people , affordability is about having money to pay even though the money is borrowed, begged or stolen, etc.....

Hydrocarbon Turbocharged April 30, 2014 Share April 30, 2014 So we all know how knnbccb Singaporeans are in general. We need to change. There was another discussion on this in MCF before. Do the automated cam thing with summons. If stop and alight the children along the road, fine! Fine! FINE! 1% x OMV of the car per offence.. So those who are richer (or buy more expensive cars) pay more. They are killing productivity in Singapore, so should fine them. The more time of others they waste, the less gets done, the earlier others need to wake up.
Astrid 4th Gear April 30, 2014 Share April 30, 2014 All we can really do now is to suck it up and get on with our lives. Until the next GE that is So what will happen next GE, can I ask? Bigtoothpick 3rd Gear April 30, 2014 Share April 30, 2014 I think someone may have pointed this out earlier. Herd mentality has to be taken into account. When the buyer expect prices to go up, then he/she may go ahead to buy earlier rather than later. My brother did, and he was proven right - his COE was $50k+ when he traded in his 2004 car about 2 years ago. That $50k COE certainly looks "cheap" now. However, if one expects prices to fall, then he/she would think twice before jumping in. Compare that to the property market for example... Now that all the financial restrictions for car purchase have been put in place (more stringent then 8-10 years ago), and if COE supply policy remains unchanged, then it would not seem far-fetched to imagine that COE prices could fall. If enough people expects that to happen, then the spiral will begin.... That is my hope anyway :-)

In the 90's, it was only 3m+ With another 2m+ people more, demand for houses, cars, jobs, public transport, road space etc. would have nearly doubled!! Everthing you want, "they" also want! So how? Vyeron 4th Gear May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 I hope COE price settle down at certain point without much up and down regardless of supply..so majority will be able to accept the fact that 'cheap' coe during financial crisis was already a past. Can imagine how many people are not happy / content because of the COE price fluctuation that is like someone always hoping to strike lottery on every forthnightly. its a negative trend towards nation's overall happiness index :( our roads are congested enough during peak hours. got to accept the fact that private space and comfort during commute comes with a price. its about choice..
Vinceng Turbocharged May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 Today mad rush at showroom. Cat A Volvo V40 diesel at $130k and Kia Forte at $106k. Volvo test drive list for today had over 40 names as at 5pm today. Long wait to test drive. Cat B Made in Japan MAZDA 6 and Korean Kia K5 saw healthy bookings at $134k with guaranteed COE. *Why buy a Thai assembled Toyota Altis 1.6 when you can get a Japan made 2l MAZDA 6 at the same price? With strong bookings, Next round COE is expected to go up. ↡ Advertisement
