I think one of the reason the gov is holding back is what will be the impact of such new laws.............

the businesses of many entertainment outlets will be very much affected............we can see so many ppl drive /ride to pubs for happy hours............as well as KTVs at night.............

shortage of taxis or public transports if all drinkers stop driving...............

need to get more drive you home service...............

so it may not be a easy decision for the gov to make after all............

but don't flame me yet................I too support ban and cane the farkers.............just taking a look from the angle............. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

reduce the numbers of drinking outlets lor .... -_-

If need be, drinking outlets must near MRT stations ..... [sly]

but hor..... MRT companies will also complaint, so many vormit inside trains ... [:p]

ok i see your point of view

in this case

can we give these so call drink drivers specific timing

for example

they are allow to drive between 4am to 5am when they consume alcohol

driving out side these timing will result in punishment severely

and for the public

avoid this timing like a plague

hur..... thats where those stall holders from markets starts their activities bringing goods to the market to set up their stall, thats where the bus drivers (SBS & SMRT) go to the depot to collect their buses for morning shift, thats where newspaper vendors busy distributing newspaper to all areas and thats also the most sleepy time of human and can get easily dose off cos the weather around 4.00am to 5.00am is the best time to [sleeping]

No time is a safe timing for drink driving. -_-

Supercharged

Only punishment is to make the drink driver go and work in 'Tiger' beer company for 15yrs as cheap labourer. He is allow to see, feel and smell the beer but cannot drink even a small drop.

If caught drinking liquor and blood test shown positive, he is to extend his work by another 5 years. By the time he completed his sentence, he might not want even to smell beer again ..... [cool]

He will never be able complete his sentence.... Prob need to sign for for many lives in the beer factory by then

aiyo that road is not a big road, there is construction at the middle of the road for the MRT as well. i dunno why the driver so impatient.

i never expect accident will happen there cos its a small road crossing!

the NPC is just in front of the junction as well. LOL

the "small" roads etc r actually sometimes more dangerous becos some drivers think tat no one is watching (no camera, no police) n dare to be aggressive....i have seen many drivers chiong red light at quiet hdb neighbourhood areas...

my suggestions for drunk driving:

1. drunk driving caught - fine + license kan tong 3 years

2. drunk driving accident resulting in another car damaged - big fine + license kan tong 5 years

3. drunk driving accident resulting in innocent victims injured - jail + big fine + license kan tong 10 years

4. drunk driving accident resulting in death of innocent - charged as manslaughter

Sibei tarboleh tarhan liao another drink driving driver within a week!

5. Repeat drink-drive offender - HANG THEM !

Btw, the 5yrs old boy victim is a China PR and the 18 year girl likely a local.

hmmmm

if i were the dad

confirm

the driver head will break

i dont care if kena arrested for doing so

cause if the law cant take care of it

might as well take it with your own hands

i guess it will be a matter of time someone take law into their own hands

especially when they know the punishment is not severely enough for drink driving

imagine this

your kid kena knock down by a drunkard

the vehicle insurance wont pay citing drink driving

the punishment fine & jail (jail is he/she got no good connection or lousy lawyer)

license revoke (still will drive as getting caught driving without license is rare unless you suay)

the only way to get compensation is to sue the bugger which then the bugger will declare bankrupt

you got zero claim in this case, on top of that you need to pay medical fees for your kids and of course the lawyers when you hired them to sue the other party

sooner or later someone will realise an eye for an eye is better

honestly you want to make people afraid to drink and drive

my suggestion is two thing

confiscate the vehicle, arrest & DENY BAIL to the driver until the investigation is over or until the case is heard in court

judging by the timeline of investigation

it will throw the bugger off in the cell for a good few months

Good theory.. Unless you have connections up there and your voice is important, no one up there give a sheet. All they do is to render assistance (which is good) but that does not solve the problem..

Haiz.. Not cursing.. But just hope that the nx victim is someone dear to them...
