The accident occurred at about 8am along the PIE towards the direction of Tuas near the Jurong West Avenue 1 exit. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said four ambulances and one support vehicle were at the scene. Police said the nine injured were the lorry driver and his passengers. At least three of them required immediate surgery. Two of them had spinal injuries while the rest had injuries to their face, head and hands. They were taken to National University Hospital and Alexandra Hospital. The lorry was apparently ferrying foreign workers. The driver of the car, who was in his twenties, was arrested.
