Mkl22 Supersonic July 6, 2018 Share July 6, 2018 These included a lack of theoretical scientific knowledge, a skills deficit in some areas, and insufficient patience and perseverance to see projects through, he said. i totally agree with this part! especially the red portion!!! Chinese are always looking for the quick fix and quick buck and willing to screw everyone including their own people just to get ahead!! this sort of mentality is pervasive in the whole culture. Thus it would take a generation or more to get rid of this and set them back on the right track. I work with all countries in the APAC region, for most chinese it is $$ first! Jman888 Moderator July 11, 2018 Share July 11, 2018 more to come Trump poised to escalate China trade war by publishing US$200 billion hit list of new tariff targets SCMP TODAY: INTL EDITION PUBLISHED : Wednesday, 11 July, 2018, 7:26am The list is likely to be released week according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter isn’t public. US President Donald Trump is preparing to release a list of an additional US$200 billion in Chinese products to be hit with tariffs, according to two people familiar with the matter. The publication of the list starts a weeks-long process that includes a public-comment period and hearings. The Trump administration on July 6 imposed 25 per cent duties on US$34 billion in Chinese imports, the first time the president has implemented tariffs directly on Beijing after threatening to do so for months. China immediately retaliated with duties on the same value of US goods, including soybeans and cars. The US is already considering levying duties on a further US$16 billion in Chinese goods, after a public hearing later this month. China has vowed to retaliate dollar-for-dollar to any further US tariffs. The new list would mark the latest escalation of the trade war between the world’s two biggest economies. Financial markets have so far shrugged off the first round of tariffs, which were long-telegraphed, with US stocks up since Friday. The press offices for the US Trade Representative’s office and White House didn’t immediately comment. The International Monetary Fund has warned that a full-blown trade war could undermine the broadest global upswing in years. Trump last month asked the US Trade Representative’s office to identify US$200 billion of Chinese goods that could be hit with 10 per cent tariffs. Since then, the president has said his administration could impose duties on virtually all Chinese imports into the US. Industry would be given time to comment on any new levies before they take effect. Trump has been considering tariffs against China since his officials concluded in March that Beijing violates US intellectual-property rights, such as by forcing American firms to hand over technology. If Microsoft keeps the money outside US, so not counted as export by US? Amazon, Google, FB, Apple....? The export is trillion by these few US companies. Is it counted as international trade? Volvobrick Hypersonic July 30, 2018 Share July 30, 2018 Was Monica L. from China? Very suspicious now.... Err..USA is the world's top buyer which is why there's trade deficits with most countries. They buy more than they sell.Imagine this is after they've sold big ticket items i.e. Boeing planes, or like you said weapons from the likes of Lockheed Martin, Northrup etc.Countries like China, Japan instead of buying goods and services from the US, they buy US treasury bonds to keep the trade going. They also buy assets such as US property which do not help keep the economy active. When the US stop buying, where to sell all the manufactured goods ? This is why China needs to grow their own consumer economy. But Chinese being Chinese are more interested in speculative real estate "investment".On the other hand, all the manufacturing depends a lot on US (and Europe or Japan) innovation and technology, from chips to engines to high tech material engineering to advanced software. Before the Asian Financial Crisis during the Clinton administration, the world's factory was South East Asia. Remember the years Singapore was at the centre of electronics trade ? When Clinton brought down Indonesia and took the rest of SEA with it, the world's factory shifted to China. Clinton also approved China's most favored nation status for 3rd world countries. China officially joined WTO in 2001.One of the many disputes now is that as a member of WTO, China has not open up it's market on many fronts. Typically foreign companies are required to go into joint venture which requires technology transfer. Of course this is good for China, or any country including SG if we need to grow our own talents and know how. But does it comply with WTO or the rights of other countries ? Then some people may also notice there's usually no blocking of China websites in most countries, but a lot of foreign websites are blocked in China, from commercial to media etc. not porn or political sites. So you are renting and earning big money subletting HDB flats on AirBNB but continue to take HDB loan and HDB grant. Sounds familiar?Just some questions to consider. ↡ Advertisement
