Beregond Supersonic June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 No choice but to change lane if bus driver is behind schedule. A few automatic cyclists will dismount and move bicycle up the kerb but most of them think they own the lanes. Stay at home work is the most environmental friendly. Don't blame other people for your accident because you yourself don't think of your own safety but your own ego. If u cycle to work instead driving , yeah i give u the thump up, indeed u environment friendly. u do tour de france on the road in singapore, take up whole lane ,block vehicle, and u talk about being environmentally friendly?? ↡ Advertisement

Ct3833 Supersonic June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 To me, defensive cycling meant : 1 - yielding to motorised vehicles 2 - only cycle within double yellow lines 3 - obey traffic rules 4 - wear brightly coloured gear or have flashing lights 5 - aware of your environment and plan routes with lesser traffic How about adding a small rear view mirror? I do not have one because I cycle tracks and off road, i am not sure if it is practical for road bike to have one.It is the cyclists responsibility to ensure safe riding , cycle in a considerate and responsible manner. They can cycle abreast if they are not obstructing traffics. But when they know they are blocking traffics, they should cycle in line until they can go side by side again.

If i cycle with someone, it is always in line and a distance apart. No need for rear view mirrors, just turn your head to check clear. Even when i am driving, i still turn my head to check clear. PCN no need for sure. it is impossible to keep turning back to look out for traffic when riding road bike on the road, i am referring to the outer cyclist when riding abreast. If they cycle in line, they just have to keep pushing forward, vehicles from behind will know how to handle. Edited June 6, 2018 by Ct3833

It takes some skills for them to brake and slow down but it is very difficult for them to do ebrake. They should at least install front brake for the safety of everyone on the road. Cycling within double yellow lines will get you killed. Cuz the drivers who will overtake with hardly any gap will still overtake very near you whether you cycle withing yellow lines or not. Safer to cycle further out so that if someone overtakes too closely, got space to move in. I always cycle 50cm to 1m out from the yellow lines. Vratenza Supersonic June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 your 1M + 1.5M = 2.5M = practically whole lane width Might as well say just take the last lane rather than share the road ? Disagree with 2. Nzy Twincharged June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 your 1M + 1.5M = 2.5M = practically whole lane width Might as well say just take the last lane rather than share the road ? Any decent driver who knows that he has to keep a safe gap when overtaking, will know that no matter how close to the yellow lines the cyclist is cycling, he will need to change lanes to overtake or at least eat into the next lane. Cuz bicycle handle bar width is already 50-60cm minimum. So even cycling on yellow lines, it is 60cm+1.5m which is 2.1m. How many cars are less than 1m width? I will move left to make it easier for a car to overtake if I see that he is patient and not aggressive. Aggressive ones, especially those that honk, I will take the lane to ensure they change lanes to overtake instead of trying to squeeze past.
Vratenza Supersonic June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 That is why I say all this lane sharing is bullcrap. When ever I encounter one along East Coast Road (alot there), I will change lane to overtake, don't want to take chance of side swiping them if they suddenly wobble. That's why It is frustrating for me because essentially you are having a moving road obstruction traveling at 15-30KPH blocking up the whole lane in a 2 lane road. I thought they always say sharing the road. Not lane la. Lane sharing is almost impossible. But those cyclist at East coast should be going much faster, 30+ to 40+? The group I used to cycle with do 30+ on flat roads. Sometimes even overtaking those mobile cranes.

Beregond Supersonic June 6, 2018 Share June 6, 2018 Lim chu kang road is another area where cyclist like to cycle during sat and sun early morning. Then they occoupy the whole lane. When merging to only 1 lane each direction. It become very challenging to overtake them with some is in big group. So Lan Lan have to follow behind them for some distance. yeah esp on road to kranji, take up whole lane for so long, lorry behind with goods cannot overtake, ram in low gear, all the smoke come out. environmental friendly my ase-- on normal days, those worker cycling to work , those lorry over take np, those worker also very zia keep to the very side, lane sharing is this way. our own ppl wear like tour de france, dun even have the skills or confident of those workers

That's selfish, idiotic behaviour that definitely trigger more aggressive response, using flesh to block iron. Why not just move aside whether aggressive drivers behind or not? There's only one party that will suffer physical harm in any accident here. It's no difference from road hoggers in lane 1, except that you put yourself in physical danger. ↡ Advertisement
