1. Was making some calculations, and I was amazed that the quoy=ted price of a B.M.W. 120I A/T ABS D/AIRBAG 2WD 2DR SOFTTOP is $158800, while basic cost is $105924. That would make a $52876 profit for the dealer. Source: http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onem...Cost_Update.pdf Then looking at the list again, an AUDI A3 2.0 TFSI QU AT ABS D/AIRBAG 3DR TURBO would have a profit of $54313. FORD MONDEO 2.3 AUTO 4DR $34559 HONDA ACCORD 2.0L $13842 HONDA ACCORD 2.4L $16633 HONDA CIVIC 1.6L 5AT $15656 HONDA JAZZ 1.3L AT $7176 HONDA ODYSSEY 2.4 A $20083 HONDA STREAM 1.8L SUNROOF ALLOY WHEEL AT $8240 HYUNDAI AVANTE (HD) 1.6 DOHC AT ABS AIRBAG 2WD $12390 LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO LP560 $291142 MASERATI GRANTURISMO 4.2 AUTO $139610 MAZDA MAZDA CX7 $23257 MAZDA MAZDA3SP LUX $19786 and the list go on, do you own calculations.... Some dealers makes huge profits, especially those exocit cars, and of course continental cars. So how much profit you think is reasonable?
2. Is the car dealership here so dark....is very sad. First when you get a new car, the dealer will have 2 prices....those that you DIY and take little or nothing in house will cost you more. Pay full cash and car price with either remain the same or cost you even more. COE bid urself also will most likely cost you more. Then when u sell....dealer will have all sorts of excuses say mkt bad, cannot export, no demand etc and give you "PAPER VALUE". So u say ok I get used car then.....but......there is no more such thing here as "PAPER VALUE" ya they need to earn. But usually the car is 20K above paper! So dealers are looking at 10k profit just like that. If only we can form a consortium or federation where we help one another get rides...at near paper value....wouldn't this be better? If we all DIY....especially when it comes to COE.....we pay for what we bid than now the prices are more or less controlled due to the dealers? Just cannot except this paper value talk when u want to sell ur car and when u buy used are....is 20k+ paper value.....what's up man!

6. Good time to buy big cars.......got freebies and goodies bag leh. Discounts and goodie packs CAR dealers are doing everything they can to pull in more buyers, dishing out freebies and slashing prices by thousands of dollars. However, it looks as if consumers are not biting at the moment, with showrooms still quiet in recent weeks, said dealers. Peugeot is offering discounts of $3,000 as well as "goodie packs" which include an iPod, iPod connectivity and solar film, said a spokesman. But sales have continued to be slow, he added. Prices of bigger models at Honda agent Kah Motor have also been cut in the wake of a drop in Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices for bigger cars two weeks ago. "We're offering a $500 discount for buyers who take out loans of more than $50,000," said product manager Vincent Ng. Bigger models now cost $3,000 to $4,000 less than previously, he added, but sales remain sluggish. Customers will also receive solar film for their windows with each purchase, on top of other car accessory packages tailored for each model, said Mr Ng. Nissan agent Tan Chong has also slashed prices by up to $8,000, said Mr Ron Lim, the general manager for sales and marketing. Despite the lower prices and bundles of freebies, customers have not returned to showrooms, according to dealers. They added that it does not help that many Singaporeans are overseas this month or are busy preparing for the reopening of school this Friday. "Sales of our bigger models have picked up slightly but they aren't fantastic. People are still very cautious. "There may be some pick-up before Chinese New Year but it won't be like in previous years," said Mr Lim. [email protected]
7. Hi, Am considering getting a car from a second hand car market. As from reading the previous posts of the dubious practices of second hand car dealers, would hope to have some answers beforehand: 1) From the prices advertised by second hand car dealers in the papers and sgcarmart, what is the range normally they be able to lower (say for the case of a 1-2 year old car) and assuming the loan amount is not taken into consideration (cos they also earn from loan from bank right?) - is there a lowest amount that usually the dealers will let go e.g 75% value of current new car price? 2) What are the usual fees/charges that the dealer and the buyer have to bear? This is assuming my current car is fully paid up and I wish to trade in my current car to the dealer. - for transfer fee, who is supposed to bear? - for admin fee, is there such a fee involved or just dealer trying their luck? - what other fees involved? 3) For 1-2 year old car, usually I supposed there is still agent warranty. How do I ensure that the warranty is not void by the previous owner or the dealer? 4) What other things I should take note of or bargain with the dealer? Thanks

19. By Julian Lim - Feb 24, 2007 AsiaOne Car buyers have been flocking to showrooms and emptying their red packets for downpayment, as car dealers see red-hot demand for new cars following the COE price plunge and Chinese New Year holiday. Champion Motors, the local Suzuki distributor, reported a 30 per cent increase in bookings after COE prices fell to their lowest level in 17 years. The popular Swift and SX4 Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) have been snapped up quickly by buyers, some of whom could have been waiting to see if there would be any further cuts to ARF (Additional Registration Fee) in the latest Budget package announced by Second Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam last Thursday. Parallel importer, Car Times, saw more families visiting their showrooms since reopening on Wednesday, and up to half of them made bookings, which translates to about 20 per cent increase in overall sales. Attributing the surge in interest to the latest COE pricing anomaly and the long Chinese New Year break, Miss Gem Yeo, Executive Director of Car Times, named Toyota Wish and new Honda Stream as the best-sellers among the new orders. The Category B COE price for these two models have fallen from $12,152 to $6,002. Mr Kenny Chua, a graduate student who recently ordered a Suzuki SX4, was among those who were tempted by the low-COE price to change car. "I've already owned a Korean-made car for more than three years. But, with it starting to present some problems, the drop in COE did make it easier for me to get a new car." Many AsiaOne readers seem to have been infected by the car-buying itch. Nearly 56 per cent of 60 readers in an AsiaOne poll indicated that they are considering buying a new car. But the good times may not last. The surge in demand has prompted dealers to raise prices. For instance, prices of Honda's hot sellers, the City, Jazz and Civic (1.6), have started inching up by S$400
20. Hi, My friend thinking of getting the Aveo5, like to go around and compare packages/prices. Will get the $2k discount instead of the package (leather, sports rim, disc changer). Like to check with the experts here: a) Is Starsauto the only dealership that sells the Chevrolet here? b) Would probably be asking for the MP3, reverse sensors. Anything that I should/could ask for? c) Is there an interior trim kit available that will spruce up the looks? thanks! Pat
21. Hi, wondering if anyone can tell me what those 2nd car dealers do to the cabin of the car to make them smell fresh and nice? I do not want to put air freshners in the car as experience with previous car had sour smell first thing in morning when on aircon. Thanks
22. Hi Guys, Need some advise. I am aware that the authorised agent for VW commercial vehicles is Cars&Cars @ Toa Payoh. I went down but they don't even have showroom model. No stock for the next 2 months or so. But when I called streetsmart at turf city, they can also offer me VW Caddy within 2-3 weeks. Guaranteed COE. I can also test drive the Caddy. They got 1 there. He even told me that the delivery is confirmed one. Can write down black and white. But he claims the vehicle is taken from agent (which means C&C right). So I'm quite confused. If C&C no stock, how come other dealers can still sell it? Same price also. Me really need a van soon. Within 3-4 months. Need to plan now. Either buying a Caddy 2.0 SDI or a Fiat Dablo 1.3MJT. Going to test drive these 2 on sat. According to reviews, I think the Fiat got better power coz got turbo even though 1.3L. But the caddy looks nice, and the build is good.
23. please read today's "the sunday times". the car dealers make big money when they sell each car. especially Toyota cars. even the "Vios" also get Gross profit $14k. No wonder so samll market in singpore, but has so many car dealers.
