  1. Each place at SIT eyed by five poly graduates Sandra DavieMy PaperMonday, May 11, 2015 Artist's impression of Singapore Institute of Technology’s satellite campus at Republic Polytechnic. Even as the Government provides alternative pathways for school-leavers to achieve career success, the university that caters to polytechnic graduates continues to draw more students. A record 9,600 polytechnic graduates applied for the 2,080 places offered by the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) this year. Last year, there were 7,000 applications for 1,800 places. The university offers 28 degrees with renowned overseas university partners such as Germany's Technical University of Munich. Since last year, it has been offering its own degrees. It has 36 degree courses in total. There had been doubt over demand at SIT, as it was granted the charter to confer its own degrees only last year. Also, students enrolled in SIT-conferred degrees will have to spend an extra eight months to a year doing intensive internships combining work and study. Yet, of the 9,600 applications, more than half were for the eight SIT-conferred degree programmes. Said SIT's director of admissions, Kelly Koh: "Despite SIT being just over one year old as an autonomous university, it is fast gaining traction and we have seen that most of the SIT-conferred degree programmes are well-received." He added that word is also getting out on the benefits of its internship programme, which is designed to be more in-depth and structured than a traditional industrial attachment. The university, which now operates from an interim campus in Dover Road, has also set up an Enterprise & Innovation Hub where its students will work on projects suggested by firms. Among the popular courses are accountancy, hospitality business, information security and aeronautical engineering. The university has shortlisted more applicants - 4,000 this year - for interviews. Said Mr Koh: "In line with our holistic approach, we believe in putting in the extra effort to identify students who display attributes and qualities, beyond academic performance, who are suited for the course." Students go through two interviews, and to select those for the hospitality degree programme, employers are invited to sit on the interview panel. Applicants said SIT's niche degrees and emphasis on getting its students job-ready were the reasons why they picked the university. Said Mr Lim, who graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic and is applying to do the new information security degree offered by SIT: "I like SIT's focus on giving students work and industry experience. It will be a definite advantage when I go out to work." - See more at: http://news.asiaone.com/news/education/each-place-sit-eyed-five-poly-graduates#sthash.qhUT80YB.dpuf
  2. Out of curiosity and as the topic, can someone share? My noob understanding is that under ideal situation, each series contains 10K nos and it takes at least 10 rounds of COE bidding to issue out all the numbers. 10 rounds of COE bidding are about 5 months, I notice that not many SKP nos on the road and if that were the case, why release SKQ? Thank you.

  7. Hi all, Do you think it is a waste of resource to use a car to travel to work for less than 10Km to and fro? Unless, one is doing a sales job, it will be hard to find someone that uses a car for more than 100km each day on the average. Regards,
  8. I have notice this issue for very very long time. Until now I don't understand why. Many Ang Mos, they can strike out a conversation with anyone, esp their own kin. Sporeans, very unlikely will chat up other Sporeans when Overseas. I tried a few times but many Sporeans I tried to speak to, are very unfriendly, snobbish, arrogant, reserved, cocky etc. Its the women that are very Stuck-up to you as a stranger than the AMTKs. It is very easy to identify Sporeans in overseas public places - Singlish. Some force an artificial accent...The other reasons are above... It also seems that they are ashame to identify with Sporeans and try hard NOT to be Sporeans. Our passports are the most welcomed one in the World. I readily say I'm a Sporean and not
  9. Dear All, I will like to propose sharing of Facebook ID....so that we can know each other better. This is what I suggest... 1. We will add our names to this thread if you want to share Facebook ID. We will collect names till end of April. 2. After which, I will send a private PM to everyone in the list. Your job is to let me know who are you not comfortable with sharing you Facebook links with from the list. 3. By consensus, I will produce a final list of names. Afterwhich, everyone will send me their facebook ID and I will pm those in the final list. 4. I am not sexist, but to avoid any accusation or flaming about intent of this proposal, I am restricting this to ONLY GUYS. What do you think?

  17. Hi all, I just want to share a rather unpleasant incident this morning. As shown in diagram, I was turning into a carpark which has a 2-way road. Halfway through the turn, I saw this stationary van at the side and a lorry wanting to exit in opposite direction. In order to do so, lorry has to eat into other lane. When I was in that position, lorry high-beamed me, as though it's asking me to reverse to give way. Normally, in such scenarios, the other party will give way, so i just inched forward. Lorry had no choice but to reverse. But after I passed, I already waved to say thanks but lorry driver just glared at me. Ok lah, maybe lorry reached slightly earlier(abt 1-2s) but is lorry right to insist I give way? Did I do anything wrong to warrant such a reaction? At that time, there are no vehicles behind me or lorry. Comments welcome. Incident.bmp
  18. hi guys.... just wanna share what i noticed in MY last week ...was travelling on some roads and suddenyly vehicle from the opposite side started high beaming.... i thought they playing punk but almost all MY cars did that, so further up when i drove i noticed road block...... so i think they quite united ah to help tell..... so y not like this, y not we strat a chain info... to all our other drivers.... if on our road we noticed road block on the opposite y not we do 3 SHORT HIGHBEAM TO alert the others.... so if 1 forummer tell 5 other driver friernds than by month end can have half singapore drivers do the same.... WHAT U GUYS THINK... at least we do not have to give our TP much money
  19. This two to three years, i notice that car ownership are increasing rapidly. Believe that in near future, more vehicles will be travelling on the road. Traffic condition getting worse, travelling time lengthen compare to few years ago, parking time also lengthen due to large amt of car and CP full, even for my HDB area, when i reach home late, i need to park at another CP as the one below my block all filled up with new cars. If condition get worst, i believe govt will intervene and solve problems with monetary means eg. more ERP gentry, increase ERP price, CP price etc. I wonder if this goes on, are we "killing" each other with such car buying fenzy??

  22. Just wondering what you guys will go for? 1. Don't rotate the tires. Worn the front 2 off, put the rear ones to the front and buy 2 new ones for the rear. 2. Do rotation timely and wear all 4 together. Once time's up, change all 4 new ones. Currently, I'm doing option 2. But each time, very hard on the pocket
  23. Not sure if this would be useful for the forum. I like to suggest having page numbers on threads which are more than 1 page long. It helps in the case if i want to view the last page of the thread, i don't have to go through the process of clicking on the thread first and then clicking on the last page in the thread itself. I attached a picture of how it might look like. Cheers
