  1. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/713761/genesis-performance-sub-brand-magma/ Genesis is rolling into the 2024 New York Auto Show with some hot news. We mean that figuratively of course, with a touch of pun included because there's a new performance sub-brand from the South Korean company called Magma. And based on what we see of this very orange GV60, we'd say good things are coming. If you're experiencing Deja Vu right now, it's because we saw the same shade of orange almost a year ago. Genesis rolled into New York with a GV80 Coupe concept and then followed it up later in 2023 with the G80 you see below. Called the G80 Magma Special, it's already in production in limited numbers, though only for customers in the Middle East. New to the scene is the GV60 Magma Concept, unveiled today ahead of the 2024 New York Auto Show and also destined for production. It won't be region-limited, though at this time Genesis doesn't have much in the way of production information. Nor do we have details on performance upgrades for the electric crossover, but we do know it will have an improved battery sending power to tweaked motors. To make the most of what we assume is a lively power increase, the GV60 Magma Concept sits a bit lower and rides on a wider stance. It wears a revised front fascia with a wider air intake, designed not to feed a hungry engine but to cool down batteries, brakes, and motors. There are three holes punched into the fascia above the intake for additional cooling, and air curtains are designed to increase the GV60's efficiency through the wind. Adding to the wide stance are larger fenders, and the concept rides on 21-inch wheels with integrated aero discs designed to both cool the brakes, and further aid in efficiency. Up top, roof fins perform more aerodynamic trickery, channeling air to the GV60's rear wing for better downforce. Inside, the leather interior gets more magma touches with orange contrast stitching and body-colored seatbacks. "Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis," said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. "The brand will continue to reveal experimental concepts with careful consideration of both technological and aesthetic elements. While speed and performance are important, the Genesis Magma program will look beyond, prioritizing the driving experience to kindle the joy of sporty driving with effortless comfort." As for when buyers can sample that blend of comfort and performance in the GV60, Donckerwolke told reporters it would arrive "very soon" but didn't elaborate further. For now, the GV60 Magma Concept along with the G80 Magma Special, and the recently revealed Neolun Concept will be on display at the 2024 New York Auto Show starting on March 29.
  2. A Genesis G80 was registered in May 2022. The brand is back in Singapore ?
  3. While many of us are still admiring the facelifted G70, the assault continues in Korea with Genesis showing to the world another brand new SUV in its lineup! Come on KMC, please re-introduce the Genesis brand in Singapore. It should perform much better this time round. We’ve known for a while now that the Genesis lineup is growing, and today the company showed off the newest member of the family. The 2022 GV70 SUV made its unofficial debut in typical Genesis form: no specifics, but a few pictures to grab our attention. It’s not the first time the Korean luxury brand has pulled off this stunt; it sneakily pulled the cover off the new G80 sedan in similar style. But today is all about the GV70, the second SUV in the Genesis range of cars, acting as the little sibling to the GV80. Now that it’s not wearing any camouflages, we can see the GV70’s full design, including a rather close resemblance to the recently facelifted G70 sedan. The brand’s dual-line motif continues here with the split headlight and taillight layout, along with the now-ubiquitous shield grille. We’ll argue that the GV70 is a bit spicier than the GV80, especially with the dramatic c-pillar shape, and attention-seeking upright exhausts. Genesis also previewed the GV70 Sport, which includes blacked-out details and specific oval exhausts. And wow, the wheels look great, too. Inside things are more familiar, with the same 14.5-inch touchscreen perched atop the dash (as in the GV80), and ditto the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The GV70 shakes up the recipe some, with ambient lighting surrounding the climate controls, and oval shapes popping up throughout the interior. While more pictures are sure to follow soon, Genesis' latest cabin design seems like a fun reinterpretation of prior models. Although the company is still mum on the majority of the specs, but we can assume – with some certainty – what will be under the hood. That means donations from the GV80, including a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder and optional 3.5-liter six-cylinder, with potentially up to 375 horsepower. Stay tuned for more updates.
  4. What is there not to like about this car? Genesis officially reveals the facelifted G70 for the 2021 model year, confirming the expected adoption of the G80's fascia, and more. Hyundai's luxury arm continues on with its athletic exterior design for the G70. This design language is enhanced with the sharpness of the two-tier headlights called Quad Lamps, accentuating the signature Genesis crest grille that now bears a different shape. In profile, the G70 gets two lines to highlight the sort of muscular form. However, it dropped the twin LED turn signals of the G80 and exchanged it with side air extractors that are optimized for efficiency. The new G70 naturally gets a redesigned set of wheels. The rear end echoes the Quad Lamp from the front, while a shapely trunk that almost looks like a lip spoiler serves as a highlight, along with the two oval exhaust tips and body-colored diffusers. Inside, the facelifted Genesis G70 boasts a driver-centric layout but more importantly, it hosts the latest connectivity options in a car. A new 10.25-inch infotainment system crowns the dashboard, featuring an exclusive Genesis UI design supporting the latest over-the-air (OTA, wifi update feature) wireless updates, Valet mode, and CarPay. Wireless charging has also been updated to accommodate bigger smartphones. No powertrain specifications have been revealed yet, but reports have been circulating about the loss of the manual gearbox. We'll know more about this as we draw close to its official debut at the new Genesis G70's market launch in Korea next month.
  5. The first EV from Genesis, with a dedicated platform for just for EV. The look is a little underwhelming though, not living up to the Genesis name plate imo. Genesis officially revealed exterior and interior images of the GV60, the brand's first electric vehicle based on dedicated EV platform. The Genesis GV60 is based on its dedicated EV platform known as E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), marking the brand's move towards electrification. The "G" in GV60 represents Genesis, while the "V" represents the vehicle's versatility. The number '60' is the lowest in the Genesis lineup and comes as the brand evolves its model-naming scheme to fit their unique design identity of 'Athletic Elegance.' Lower numbers will emphasize athleticism under the scheme, with elegance represented by higher numbers. Based on this system, the GV60 is Genesis' most athletic model yet. The Genesis GV60's exterior design highlights its high-performance image along with a dynamic and smooth appearance. Genesis delivers its signature design experience to the GV60's body, bringing the sleek silhouette drivers have come to expect from the brand. The front of the GV60 features a design optimized exclusively for the electric vehicle. The iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps add character to a refined and voluminous body. A wider and more athletic Crest Grille has been placed below the Quad Lamps to emphasize the dynamic performance of the GV60 and also to increase the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage batteries in the underbody. The Genesis GV60 will also see a new wing emblem applied to the grille, with thickness of the emblem reduced by nearly 80 percent from previous models. It features the same unique Guilloché pattern often seen in luxury watches, representing a culmination of Genesis' analog sensitivities with high-tech innovations to create truly luxurious driving experiences. In addition, Genesis has opted for a 'Clamshell Hood' for the first time, a single panel which combines the hood and fenders, creating a sleek impression for the EV model by removing lines between the parts. When viewed from the side, the GV60 reveals the smooth and dynamic profile of a high-performance coupe. A simple yet sharp silhouette running from the front hood to the rear spoiler completes a more progressive character. The chrome line flowing from the windshield to the top of the Daylight Opening (DLO) window extends to a C pillar-garnish design that embodies the image of 'electric', adding a distinctive characteristic to the EV model. Digital side mirrors add to a cutting-edge appearance, and are connected to the camera and monitor system. Meanwhile, an electric door handle enhances a strikingly futuristic image by automatically popping up when you approach the car. At the rear, Two Line rear combination lamps take on a dynamic shape and flow seamlessly with the voluminous three-dimensional body. The rear also features a fixed rear wing spoiler to accent a coupe-shaped roof, adding to the image of dynamic high-performance. Shoulder volume is emphasized in the rear fender to create a low and wide profile and further accentuate the image of high-performance by combining it with technical functions such as various sensors, taillights, and rear turn signals at the bottom. The interior design of the GV60 takes on Genesis' design ethos of the 'Beauty of White Space,' while seeking to create a spacious and comfortable interior. At the same time, it has embodied differentiated images with its floating architecture and unique details. The most noticeable feature in Genesis GV60's interior design is the Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped Shift By Wire (SBW) that intuitively informs drivers when the vehicle is ready to drive. The Crystal Sphere is one of the most compelling design elements of the Genesis GV60. When the vehicle is turned off, the Crystal Sphere becomes the vehicle's mood lights, adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience. When you're ready to drive, the sphere rotates and the SBW appears, creating an indoor atmosphere of futuristic mobility. The Crystal Sphere is not just a key element of the interior design, but also provides emotional connection with driver while indicating driving status. The floating console, where the Crystal Sphere is located, looks as if it is hovering in the air, working with other unique features such as the slim cockpit and flat floor to provide passengers with a maximum level of openness. The crash pad inside the GV60 is designed in a wide and slim shape to augment the pleasant interior, emphasizing a high-tech atmosphere with a wide-screen integrated indicator (cclC, connected car Integrated Cockpit) that connects with the cluster and AVNT (audio, video, navigation, telecommunication). The Genesis GV60 has also epitomized the uniformity of interior design by applying circular details to Crystal Sphere, the horn cover, door handles, and side mirror controllers.
  6. JD Power Says Korean Cars Beat US and Europe in Quality! Sources: https://www.wired.com/story/jd-power-korean-cars-beat-us-europe-quality/ Ask the average car buyer who makes the most reliable vehicles, and they’ll likely start with Japanese automakers, followed by the Germans and the Americans, and ending with the Koreans. Going by the results of this year’s JD Power Initial Quality Survey, though, that’s all wrong. “It’s almost the complete reverse,” says Dave Sargent, who oversees Power's vehicle quality research. The change in fortunes rides largely on how automakers have handled two big technological trends: proliferating infotainment screens and advanced driver assistance features. The ranking, based on the number of problems owners of new vehicles report in the first three months, puts Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, in the number one spot, with 63 problems per 100 vehicles. Kia and Hyundai are right behind, making for an all-Korean top three. The next three slots go to the Americans—Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet—with Lexus and Toyota after them. All these brands score better than the industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles. Below that bar, you’ll find the Europeans, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and Volkswagen. In the bottom two spots are Land Rover and Jaguar. A spokesman for those two brands, both owned by India’s Tata Motors, said that the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has reduced complaints around infotainment issues, and that it's working to improve those scores. A Mercedes-Benz representative notes that this JD Power survey "doesn’t reflect the total ownership experience," but that it's helpful for "finetuning" its work. The results don’t surprise Sargent. “This is not a one-year phenomenon,” he says. The Korean automakers have consistently improved their cars’ quality in recent years, especially around the infotainment systems that offer a combination of navigation, music, and voice calling features. The Korean manufacturers offer relatively simple systems that do the basics well, even if they skimp on next-generation ideas like gesture controls. That matches Consumer Reports’ most recent infotainment system ranking, which listed Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia among its favorites. It gave the top score to Tesla, which JD Power doesn’t include in its rankings, due to a lack of data. The “problems” that consumers report tend to fall into two buckets. Some are defects that affect individual cars, like a headlamp that goes out. Others are related to the design of a vehicle, like a hard-to-use voice recognition system for doing things like placing calls and set navigation destinations. Today’s cars have far fewer defects than their predecessors did a decade ago, Sargent says, and mass manufacturers match the luxury brands on that count. So drivers are more focused on the things that bug them about their vehicles. That exposes the luxury automakers to criticism, Sargent says, because they offer more features that may not work perfectly or be easy to understand. This year’s survey found a small increase in what Sargent calls “traditional problems” like bad paint jobs and brake and suspension noises. That may be because, as car sales have slowed, vehicles are spending more time in the elements before going home with a customer—an effect known as “lot rot.” While infotainment systems are responsible for more problems than any other category, they’re also where automakers made the biggest overall improvement since 2018. Industry-wide, the survey says, the systems are getting less glitchy and easier to use. The new bad boy looks to be driver assistance systems, which for JD Power includes things like basic cruise control, lane departure warnings, and “semiautonomous” systems like Cadillac Super Cruise. As these features become more prevalent, more consumers are having trouble understanding how they work, or criticizing when they do and don’t intervene. And yes, studies show that drivers in the US and Europe often overestimate what their “semiautonomous” cars can do—setting them up for disappointment. Overall, Sargent says, the encouraging thing is just how reliable new cars are these days. The 2019 industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles represents a 14 percent drop over the 2009 figure. Volvo, he notes, is in 28th place, out of 32. “I drive a Volvo,” he says. “I love it.”
  7. 2019 Genesis G90 Spotted With Minimal Disguise, Superman-Like Grillehttps://www.carscoops.com/2018/11/2019-genesis-g90-spotted-minimal-disguise-superman-like-grille/ The 2019 Genesis G90 will be unveiled shortly, but several lightly camouflaged prototypes have surfaced online. While it’s hard to pin down their origin, the images reveal the redesigned flagship will adopt a more distinctive front end which features a prominent crest grille that is similar to the one used on the Essentia and GV80 concepts. The grille is flanked by new G-Matrix headlights which have slim LED daytime running lights in the middle of them. Further below, we can see a modified front bumper which features restyled air intakes. Moving further back, the car appears to adopt a new front fender vents with feature integrated turn signals. Details are hard to make out, but they appear similar those seen in sketches which surfaced last week. Further changes can be seen at the rear as the license plate area has been moved from the trunk to the bumper. This freed up designers to install new taillights which are connected by a slender light strip. Other notable changes include a new rear spoiler and restyled exhaust tips which mimic the design of the crest grille. The single interior image doesn’t reveal any drastic changes, but Genesis has already confirmed the model will have an updated 12.3-inch infotainment system which has an improved interface, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility as well as the ability to receive over-the-air updates. The infotainment system will also have a mobile SMS function which can display text messages, read them aloud and then send basic replies. Speaking of technology, the 2019 G90 will have an adaptive suspension and an active noise control system which cancels out unpleasant sounds. The car will also have an assortment of driver assistance systems including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist and Safe Exit Assist. The facelifted G90 will be unveiled on November 27th and South Korean customers will have a choice of three different engines including a 3.8-liter V6, a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8.

  14. http://www.hyundai.com/sg/en/Showroom/Passenger/Genesis-2014/PIP/index.html Called my previous se who confirmed they will bring in this ride soon. But likely 3.8cc version. Priced close to BMW 520i. In the us, the base 3.8cc is priced like 10k usd off BMW535 if I am not mistaken. It's a large car. Close to BMW 7 series, s class but selling at base BMW 5 series. In Korea, there r 4 variations. 3000cc, 3300cc, 3800cc, 5000cc.... Road tax of 3800cc looks to be a killer at avg 1.8k per half yr. hee. I think Singapore Hyundai should bring in the base 3000cc or 3300cc for our roads and nshw ride. More than decent horses already.... I am determined to have a look at this ride. It's looks freaking awesome on youtubes and have garnered super reviews in the us so far.

  16. In 2009, Hyundai and KIA had to recall 700,000 units of their models due to defective brake switches. Unfortunately, not learning from their experiences, these South Korean automakers repeat their mistake and this time, it's even worse. They now have to recall a total of 1.6 million units of cars they have produced due to the exact same problem. The brake switch defect may prevent the brake lamps from illuminating even when the brake pedal is actually stepped on. Of course, this is a big deal as it may trigger rear-end collisions. In addition to that, the defect may fail to cancel the cruise control feature while braking, prevent the push-button starter from functioning, and may even block the gear shift in the neutral position. Both KIA and Hyundai will start contacting dealers and customers of the affected models in June 2013 and will provide necessary replacements free of charge. The list of the affected models is as follows: - 2007 KIA Sedona - 2007-2009 Hyundai Tucson - 2008-2009 Hyundai Veracruz - 2007-2010 KIA Rondo - 2007-2010 KIA Sportage - 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra - 2007-2011 KIA Sorento - 2007-2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 2010-2011 KIA Soul - 2010-2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 KIA Optima
  17. Hyundai has unveiled the HCD-14 Genesis concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The four-door coupe concept is a preview of the next generation Genesis and carries design elements for future Hyundai products. The concept is powered by the Korean carmaker's 5.0-litre direct-injected 'Tau' V8 with dual continuously variable valve timing. The engine is linked an 8-speed automatic transmission which delivers power to the rear wheels. "We instilled HCD-14 Genesis with a premium-sport four-door coupe road presence", said Christopher Chapman, Hyundai's Chief Designer in America. "Its sleek and lightweight silhouette does not punish the wind but used fluidic precision with dramatic surfacing that conveys natural restraint." The front end is dominated by a large grille with 4 horizontal metal bars, which can appear overbearing. The concept has a tapered boot like the Audi A7. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the HCD-14 is its rear-hinged rear doors, or commonly known as "suicide doors". Like most four-door coupes in the market, the HCD-14 strictly sits four.
  18. Read "TODAY" and Komoco said it is bringing in the Genesis. Dunno when. Sorry if someone posted liao http://www.todayonline.com/pdf_open.asp?id=1804FWL030
  19. Hyundai intends to distinguish between its upscale models and its mainstream vehicles and to accomplish this, the Korean automaker is considering a plan to market its premium vehicles under a Genesis sub-brand, not unlike what Toyota has done with their Lexus branding. Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales for Hyundai Motor America, said that this proposed move would replace Hyundai's round "H" badge with a new badge on rear-wheel-drive premium vehicles, such as the Equus, Genesis sedan and Genesis Coupe. These upscale vehicles would get the Genesis badge with an alphanumeric naming system. Mr Zuchowski clarified that Hyundai has not made a decision about the rebranding exercise yet. At this moment, the company is studying if the usage of the Hyundai badge would hamper or improve sales. Anyway, the combined sales of the Genesis and Genesis Coupe increased by 13% in 2011 to 32,998 units, as compared to a year ago. Additionally, in the first year of production, Hyundai sold 3,193 units of its US$60,000 Equus sedan. That

    Hyundai to go premium

Hyundai Motor group has plans to enter the premium sector currently dominated by Lexus, Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The luxury arm would most likely be called Genesis and include company's current rear-wheel drive offerings such as the Genesis Sedan and Coupe as well as the soon-to-be-launched Equus. The automaker, which saw its U.S. market share increase by an impressive 50 per cent in the past two years, would further enhance the range of the Genesis brand with a compact sports saloon in the likes of the iconic BMW 3-Series, and a crossover utility vehicle to compete with the Lexus RX 350. John Krafcik, president of Hyundai Motor America, told The Wall Street Journal that the company has three branding scenarios under consideration. The first and most likely to happen would be for Hyundai to launch the Genesis as a sub-brand and sell the cars in separate parts of its own showrooms. The other is to follow in the footsteps of Lexus and launch the brand into separate dealerships The final option would be for the company to develop the aforementioned sedan and SUV models but keep the Hyundai branding for the time being. While Hyundai remains open to all options, Mr. Krafcik said that he is most concerned about launching a spin-off brand due to the costs related to the creation of a new network of dealers and that the company would need to make an additional $6,000 in revenue per each car sold by the outlets. There appears to be a lot of enthusiasm among Hyundai dealers in the US, who are almost certain about the creation of the Genesis brand. Although Hyundai
