  1. All I can say is that Singapore is really NOT a place for car lovers. Beside the ultra high vehicle taxes and ownership cost, car meetups also need a Police Permit?! So should our police demand the same for those cyclists who get together every weekend in big group, posing hazards and risk to other road users?? Police warns organisers of convoy gatherings to abandon plans; 5 men under investigation The police said they are aware of planned gatherings of vehicles to travel in a convoy at various locations over the long weekend They warned that doing so is an offence punishable with fine or jail, or both They said that five men are under investigation for organising two convoy gatherings last week They are also looking into a meet up of car enthusiasts last week at an open air carpark at Decathlon Kallang The police said on Monday (May 2) they are aware of planned gatherings for vehicles to travel in a convoy at various locations over the long weekend, warning that doing so is an offence that could land the organisers in jail. In a statement, the police said it is investigating two incidents last week in which vehicles were driven in a convoy. The authorities are also looking into a third incident involving a gathering of car enthusiasts at an open air carpark in Kallang. Five men, aged between 22 and 26, have been identified as organisers of the convoy events, though the police did not reveal their names. They are now under investigation for “conducting an event on the road or part thereof without a permit”, the police said. “The police would like to remind the public that conducting an event on any road or part thereof without a police permit is illegal in Singapore and we will not hesitate to take firm action against those who choose to flout our laws,” it said. Under the Road Traffic Act, any person convicted of conducting any event on any road could be fined S$1,000 or jailed up to three months, or both. Repeat offenders are liable for double the punishment — a S$2,000 fine or up to six months’ jail, or both.
  2. Basically I wrote a feedback to LTA asking why is Vehicle Entry Permit for foreign cars cheaper when compared to current COE prices. Basically singaporeans who bidded for todays COE prices has signed up for an extremely expensive price for TEN YEARS. Foreign cars just has to pay VEP at $20/day for WEEKDAYS. It is FREE on weekends. This is the reply. I mean got reply like not reply. So what is LTA's stand???? never say anything at all. LTA is getting really bad ---------------- Dear Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify on the VEP scheme for foreign-registered cars in Singapore. The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is a scheme for foreign car owners who drive in for business and tourism reasons. For this reason, the VEP fee is levied on foreign-registered cars to mitigate the cost difference of using foreign and Singapore-registered cars due to differences in road tax, insurance, fuel, etc. The VEP fees is regularly reviewed and is currently under review. We thank you for your feedback. Regards, Irene Liew
  3. Anyone can advice whether need Vehicle Entry Permit to drive up to Malaysia? Thanks.
  4. I just heard Malaysia TV2 8pm. News Broadcast about Foreign Vehicle Entry Permit charge at 20 Ringgit with effect Jan.2015. This new FVEP will definitely see business for Johoreans diving down into deep cliff.
  5. Many would have heard or read about Google's self-driving vehicles and they were the first to get a permit from the state of Nevada to test autonomous vehicles on public roads. Now it is Audi's turn to be granted a licence by the state of Nevada. The licence allows Audi to operate an autonomous vehicle on public roads. This is the third such licence issued out to companies that wishes to test autonomous vehicles on public roads. The second licence was issued out to tyre manufacturer, Continental late last year. This makes Audi, the first auto manufacturer to be issued out with such licence. Many might not know this but Audi has dabbled in autonomous vehicle technology before this. Audi teamed up with Stanford University and Volkswagen Group
  6. As per topic. Can Malaysian Work Permit holder drive SG car for work-related purposes? I heard that his occupation stated in the Work Permit needs to show he is employed as a driver. If want to employ a Malaysian for a non-driver job, but needs him to drive occasionally cannot izzit?
  7. My wife is a PR here and her re-entry permit expires in Nov 2011. She hasn't been working since 2008. Would it be possible if she found a job now and then try to apply for the renewal of the re-entry permit? Think the condition is that have to be working for 3 years.
  8. I have a Malaysian friend who is working in Singapore with a working permit. He recently committed a crime (not a serious offence) and was given a jail term of 3 months (in fact, it should be a FINE case, but the court he went to has a judge who is famous for putting people to jail, bad luck). Do you think his work permit will be forfeited?
  9. So what's the diff between this 'permit' and visa?
  10. April 4, 2008 Makansutra in court over foreign cook By Khushwant Singh A COMPANY, run by popular food presenter and columnist K.F. Seetoh, has been hauled to court for violating work permit rules. Makansutra Gluttons Bay is charged with instructing a foreign worker to work as a cook at the Siewann Seafood Cze Cha in Esplanade Mall between September 2006 and last October. The cook is only allowed to work for Makansutra, according to his work permit. The case was adjourned on Friday for two weeks. The Ministry of Manpower prosecutor said that he needed time to consider issues that had been raised by the defence before the hearing could begin. If convicted, Makansutra could be fined up to $5,000. Mr Seetoh's wife, Patricia Seetoh, a director of the company, appeared in court on Friday for the firm, which is represented by lawyer Kirpal Singh. Mr Seetoh, who founded Makansutra and has appeared in a television programme with the same name, was presented with the Special Recognition Award given out by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) at its annual Tourism Awards ceremony last month . The case will be heard on April 18. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...15.html?vgnmr=1 was this makansutra the one that sued some pple for organising a foodie outing using the makansutra name?
