  1. Just revealed in Los Angeles. Enjoy these pics. Likely combi of 1.5 and 2.0 Skyactiv engines + Skyactive Drive transmission. Should make it here by 2015.
  2. For today, it's the Mazda CX-30! So, what is the Mazda CX-30? A crossover? A Mazda 3 in taller boots? Let Jon tell you all about it! In the simplest of terms, this is what the Mazda CX-30 is. But if you still don't really understand what Jon means.... Yes. The CX-30 is the taller version of the Mazda 3 Hatchback. Mazda's Kodo design language is arguably one of the best design languages in the car industry, currently, at least to this writer. The Kodo design language carries itself around pretty well, from sedan to SUV, and it almost seems like Mazda can do no wrong with it. Not the most generous boot capacity, admittedly. But, the CX-30 has a flat load floor! Perfect if you want to transport bigger or bulkier items like a bicycle or IKEA furniture. No weird hump in the middle of the car floor to give you difficulty. At Jon's height, he still has a decent amount of legroom. Not to mention, the leather in the CX-30 is quite a lovely colour. But yes, headroom is a drawback. Especially since there is a sunroof. So, taller people, do take note. Jon still has some headroom but it isn't much. This writer daresays Mazda is killing it with the design of the dashboard layout. Clean, simple lines with a rectangular screen positioned at an optimal angle, and with physical buttons for the important things like air-conditioning and music control. It's really intuitive. Took the words right out of this writer's mouth you did, Jon. Well, with these power levels, you won't be winning many traffic light races. But hey, it's more than enough for overtaking on the expressway, plus Mazda's SkyActiv engines do make their cars feel a little more brisk than what the spec sheet claims to be. Want to know more about what Jon has to say about the Mazda CX-30? Watch the video below to find out!
  3. Just revealed at the Thai Auto Show. A Mazda 2 with a boot; A mini 3; likely will be made in Thailand. Set to take on the Toyota Vios. Honda City, Nissan Almera. Seems like the engine at launch is the SkyActiv-D 1.5 (aka Diesel); unsure if the 1.5 SkyActiv-G will be made available but I guess it has to be if it were to sell in greater quantities in SG. Transmission likely same as the 2 Hatch, which means it will likely be the 6 speed SkyActiv Drive transmission with Sports mode. Those in the market for a car in this segment, stay tuned.
  4. [extract] In the late 1980s, Mazda experimented with the creation of a premium marque by the brand name 'Eunos'. The Eunos marque found little success and was discontinued in the mid-90s. Mazda
  5. Just recently, Mazda announced that production of the all new Mazda6 has officially started and the sedan version was showcased at the recent Moscow Auto Show. Mazda intends to debut the car at the upcoming Paris Motor Show later this month. But before Mazda does that, the Japanese automaker has unveiled the car ahead of its scheduled debut. Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all new Mazda6 wagon (known as the Atenza in Japan) at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and the sedan version will be exhibited alongside it. Both models displayed at the Paris Motor Show will feature Mazda's new Skyactiv-D 2.2 clean diesel engine. The Skyactiv-D 2.2-litre diesel engine is available in either Standard Power or High Power versions. Both engine types comply with Europe's Euro 6 emissions standards. Additionally, the new Mazda6 will also be available with the Skyactiv-G 2.0 and Skyactiv-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engines. The 2.0 litre engine makes 134bhp and 210Nm of torque and the 2.5-litre engine delivers 189bhp and 256Nm of torque. The new Mazda6 is the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products and is the second of Mazda's new generation of vehicles which incorporate both the full range of Skyactiv technologies and the new Kodo
  6. [extract] It is not a secret about Mazda having zero net profit for the past three years and it is likely that the Japanese auto giant is going to go through another year of financial loss. And due to this, Mazda is looking for partners to share development and manufacturing costs so as to return to profitability. According to the company
  7. Auto shows or exhibitions are usually the place where auto manufacturers showcase their cars and technologies. In Japan, if you want to see new car models, you will have to visit the Tokyo Motor Show. But the Tokyo Auto Salon is where designers and engineers unleash their talents in customisation. At the upcoming 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon (13-15 January), Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase several of their customised vehicles. On top of this, Mazda will also display its SKYACTIV engines and transmissions. First of all is the new and recently released CX-5. This special edition CX-5 is based on a standard CX-5 model grade. It combines a red exterior body paint work with matte black alloy wheels and a slightly lowered body height. Next is the Mazda Demio (also known as the Mazda 2) SKYACTIV Smart Stylish. This model's low centre of gravity is expressed through M'z Custom aero parts including front under spoiler, side skirts, and rear underskirt. Next is the Mazda Axela (Mazda 3) SKYACTIV Sport. The Axela comes with a range of aero parts including front air dam skirt, rear bumper, and rear roof spoiler for the exterior. The interior gets black leather upholstery for the seats, centre console and door trims. The centre console, meter hood and door switch panel surfaces are finished in piano black. The Mazda Roadster (MX-5) Black Tuned integrates black-based features onto both the interior and exterior of the car. This tuned model offers a full range of exclusive aftermarket items which includes BBS lightweight alloy wheels, Bilstein height adjustable dampers, Brembo brake system (painted in gold for the front callipers) and RECARO seats. Next up is the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R 2012. Mazda states that this model is an expression of the further pursuit of superlative driving performance, a further evolution of the limited edition Mazda RX-8 Spirit R with 6-speed manual transmission. In addition to the base model's unique sporty design and dynamic performance, the model features BBS 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and rotors, and vehicle height lowered by 20mm. And lastly the Mazda Roadster (MX-5) NR-A
  8. [extract] Earlier this year Mazda came up with a concept for its smaller-sized SUV known as the Minagi Concept. It is one of the two concept vehicles that Mazda has designed with its Kodo-Soul of Motion design styling theme. On top of that, it is also the first Mazda car that will be featured with Mazda
  9. [extract] The next generation Mazda MX-5 is expected to be released in 2014 and Mazda promised that it will go back to basics as its main focus. Mazda has focused entirely on making the MX-5 just like the original first model but with one minor change. The new car will be smaller and narrower, lighter with sharp handling features and for the first time, it will be turbocharged. Images of a Mazda MX-5 MPS began to emerge in my mind after hearing this news. (Of course there
  10. [extract] Within the past one year plus, Mazda introduced to the world 2 conceptual cars. First were the Shinari and the other one was the Minagi. These two concepts will serve as a basis for Mazda
  11. Over the past one year, Mazda has hinted that their rotary engine usage has come to an end. The company had to struggle with stringent emission laws and fuel economy in its RX8 model and it looks like the RX8 would be the last Mazda model to feature the rotary engine. But a recent Twitter update by a Mazda PR employee shows otherwise. A recent twitter update revealed that Mazda is working on a new rotary engine for a new model and they will also feature their SkyActiv technology into it. The actual tweet also thanked supporters for their continuing support of the rotary engine and the RX8. No expected timeline was mentioned as to when we will see this. From what I could remember, SkyActiv focuses on three key areas: (1) Advanced engines with world-beating compression ratios (2) Highly efficient transmissions (3) Sophisticated lightweight chassis technology for high levels of crash safety performance and driving pleasure. If Mazda is going to increase compression ratios on its rotary engine, I wonder how that will help fuel economy, especially on its RX model. For Mazda fans, don
