The bank's security system is a subset of our security system.

I don't view it as such.

The bank is a private company just like one of those pawn shops. AFAIK, our MAS doesn't regulate their physical security.

30K robbery gets more reporting than flawed trains worth several hundred millions on our toilet papers.  Nuff' said.

SG is a Financial Centre and such news would tarnish our image. So the urgency was there...  :yuush:

Whereas 'cracks' are considered as 'management flaws or sweeping under the carpet' and only countries involve in purchasing trains from China company will worried... [sweatdrop]

European & US trains companies are laughing now and will said, "see lar, don't buy from us but buy cheap trains getting all this problems" ... :secret-laugh:

SINGAPORE - THE MAN WHO robbed a Standard Chartered Bank branch in Singapore’s Holland Village has been nabbed in Thailand after more than 72 hours on the run, police confirmed on Monday.

The man was arrested by the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok on Sunday.

According to Maj-General Apichart Suriboonya, who heads Thailand's Interpol unit, the suspect is Canadian. He flew from Singapore to Thailand last Thursday, arriving at 17.08pm. On Sunday, he was arrested at noon at Boxpacker Hostel in Bangkok.

The rare bank robbery in Singapore sparked a social media debate on whether the country's low crime rates made authorities and the population too complacent, questioned bank security and criticised police for not providing details of the incident.

The man stole 30,000 Singaporean dollars (Bt780,000) from the Standard Chartered branch, having slipped the teller a note saying he was armed, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

The teller pressed a silent alarm button and police arrived within minutes, but it was too late, said the source, who declined to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

I thought,"Limpeh AMDK, armed with powderful Engrish, hand over the cash now!".

Ang Mo does not automatically means they can speak proper English.

Many European are Ang Mo, but they only understand and speak German or Italian or Spanish.

$30k is not a big sum.  Looks like a hairline crack.

Everyone is now talking about hairline crack in the security system.

It's just like a house foundation. You see a small crack, do you fix it? or let it crack further till there's serious foundation issue?

:XD:

Now the robber passed test A (find the easiest way to rob a bank),

but he failed test B (if it ain't broke, dun fix it).

Why did he throw away the slip of paper? He should keep it for future use (if he wasn't caught). $30k is not going to last him too long.

i think he made one mistake by robbing the bank in holland village, cos high chance he can be identified or recognized by someone who know him or met him.

if he rob the same bank in bedok, i believe no one can figure out how he looks like, the aunties will say 'ang mo lor, they all look the same'.
