How problematic is VW's 7 speed DSG?

not realli lah. try driving a golf and a corolla n tell me if both feel the same.

to be fair to vw owners, vw's overall packaging is pretty neat. i can see why they would be attracted to the brand, not juz for 'atas' reasons.

but the DSG is such a dog that it would've sunk most other brands oredi.

Ford ,also European is just as good if not better than VW. Though parts are just as costly but believe Ford is less problematic. So why so many have been crazily buying VW and not Ford if they prefer the feel of a European car,? Marketing ? Singaporeans do get blinded in their buying decisions.

errrr....Ford is american bro.... end of the day, people still like German products. after all, the largest carmakers in the world are Germans (VW, Merc, BMW).

The extra torque from the twin charge engine makes a lot of difference to the driving feel compared to a NA Ford.

One could oso say VCS is doing a better marketing job than vantage n showroom appeal is higher (went twice to vantage n both times was made to feel as if I'm intruding into the SE's Facebook time....).

In image concious s'pore, Ford is, unfortunately, stuck in no man's land. It's hasn't got the 'German' association, not viewed as 'conti' (or branded) but has all the negative perceptions of conti attached to it.

yup, Ford was too slow in introducing their ecoboost and power-shift to their Focus lineup.

Hypersonic

those interested in a 1.4T car should look seriously at the Chevy cruze

more power than the golf/jetta, without the 7DSG problems and way cheaper too.

it was going for ~97K over the weekend

Ford has got 2 distinct arms - American and UK /European. The models here are mostly UK /European based.

I bet if someone does a blind test of the Mondeo ,he would conclude it is as much or more "German" than the Passat.

My wife had the mk7 for over two years and had not complaint of any DSG issues. I earnestly believe vw had sorted the issues that plague the earlier vw which there are still feedback thru the forum .

I guess the day when the last of the old batch of vw is off the road, there would then be some sort of closure to these perception of the inferior DSG which is really a joy to drive.

Mercedes, BMW and Audi has its fair share of gearbox issues as well but I guess not at the scale VW encountered worldwide.
