Cluboxed 1st Gear June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 VW brand is to me lower than hyundai n kia now. The koreans have come a long way to making reliable n well designed cars. VW seems to be just alot of marketing n not enough reliability. Just like apple iphone vs samsung galaxy. now is korean makers leading d way however, there seems to be issue with the Samsung phones as well...but I am not saying there are no issues on iPhone too... ↡ Advertisement

13177 Hypersonic June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 simi branding? while i was in Aust just last week, the Aust ppl are also complaining about VW cars, about the same gear problems. Now i just came back and the news came out in papers about VW having to recall cars in Aust. So you say leh, got branding or not?? Even the Australians are avoiding this brand. It's just another crap brand Branding could also mean face value? I find people here buy car is more for face value than other areas. So if you compared a toyota and VW, most people will tell you VW is more "atas" in terms of brand.
Blackyv Turbocharged June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 The problem is vw has been dragging their feet, waited too long to react when the failure was reported over and over again. It's not a recall to oil the steering wheel which is not deadly ... See the different btw vw recall vs the rest?... And the best part, the software upgrade is out of good will... Wtf.. Luckcent 4th Gear June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 VW should go back to the old and no issue type of gearboxes and all problems gone.
Meanmachine Supercharged June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 Hi Been contemplating getting a VW jetta but quite concerned about how serious the 7 speed DSG problem is. I would say its the only thing stopping me now. VW sales guy said its those ppl who mod (chip) the car. But what i heard from others is even not chipped also have problem. Every 1 or 2 month have to visit workshop. And their after sales is not fantastic either. Anyone here can share? U can try the passat,1.8T, very powerful car and reliable Owned one several back in 04-06, solid and low in maint cost
Meanmachine Supercharged June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 Wondering how problematic the 7 speed DSG is? Cause still able to find so many 7 speed DSG vw on the road?! But i agree many car owners don't think long term here, they always like to change the entire car just to avoid paying wear and tear parts replacement?! That's why if you ask any of the car owners here any problem on the car they bought, confirmed they will tell you no problem at all, cause they change car before problems arise! I do agree with you, some owner/s do not like issues or problematic car, once they drive almost 3 years, thy will sell and buy another new car, so thy are not car lover, real car lover trouble-shoot issues and service regularly by changing small part due to wear and tear, so the car get tuned on regular basis. The returns are tremendous. I had the notion of driving many conti car and B&B cars all my life and I enjoyed every bit of identifying all the issues/ concerns. Sourcing and out-sourcing parts from stockist, understanding what goes wrong and how it works, trouble-shooting why brakes fails, tyre and rims size, pressure and daily check and care are utmost important. Learning fm mechanic who can share are equally important too, the car will rewards you with more mileages . . . blink blink ! Tis is what I called " car enthusiastic car-lover "

So if you compared a toyota and VW, most people will tell you VW is more "atas" in terms of brand. not realli lah. try driving a golf and a corolla n tell me if both feel the same. to be fair to vw owners, vw's overall packaging is pretty neat. i can see why they would be attracted to the brand, not juz for 'atas' reasons. but the DSG is such a dog that it would've sunk most other brands oredi. Mugen85 1st Gear June 13, 2013 Share June 13, 2013 I go for reliability. Thats why I chose a Honda over VW 5years ago. 5years and counting. Zero problem with 150k mileage clocked. I will only consider VW only when they solve their relaibility issue.
