the person who bid is the dealer ... they can punch in any value they want

the person who pay for it is the buyer ... if buyer don't kiasi kiasu now and succumb to dealer ... they got nothing to bid

dealer probably laughing now ... you all fool really think coe gonna crash to $20K level ... muahahahaha

Government should charge 5% administrative fee for all COEs transfer within first 6 months, this will curb COE speculation, most of CAT A buyers will choose to bid by themselves, and all dealers will had to separate the COEs' cost from the real car price.

It's always in the big dealers' interest to push COE price higher, so that they can hide their profit margin in the total price, and also get more commission from bank loan.

Cannot keep comparing 10-20yrs ago time. We got to admit that these generation youngsters(born after 80s) mostly have 2 working parents. Naturally they can afford more for their children, help them in buying their first car, buying their first house, wedding etc.. Don't keep lamenting on this. We don't have such luxury doesn't mean others should not have. It is their money and their choice, and i trust most ppl have the basic knowledge of financial prudency. They are not stupid lah, why worry for them? More importantly, worry for ourselves.

They not stupid, just overwhelmed by material wants n influenced by peers.

I saw some car dealers offering 10 yr loan 2 days ago..... and the showroom car was also sold....think Cat A may not drop so much due to backorders.

before budget announcement, altis was quoted aound $137K. Now, orders taken for $98K ( difference $39K ).

For Cat B ( 2.0L ) Jap brand, the price quoted move down only slightly ( maybe 10K)

The cost of COE depends on maket demand..........if alot stay out of the new car market, of course it will soften.

My feel is COE price will drop by 20k to 30k, all the kiasu buyers waiting on the sideline will jump in and it will go up, hence adjustment will be small. I think used car market, especially for the more expensive makes, will drop more as CM1 affects used car buyers more and those kiasu people taking the plunge will also need to dispose of their ride.

but not too many buyers have the ability to pay 40% DP

People will just go for smaller cars instead. I think COE won't drop much as well. But then we'll start seeing more korean/japan/china cars on the roads again. These kind of cars 40% DP maybe around 50-60k? Many can afford.

Disposing of existing ride will be one big hurdle in getting a new car. Used car dealers will not give high price (maybe just like in 2006/7 - paper plus body). If there is still outstanding loan, buyer will need to take that into consideration too as the new d/p is much higher now.

Whether COE will drop or not, just have to face the fact. The richer Singaporeans and Foreigners will be buying new cars, and the middle class will be only able to afford second hand cars. The gov,. is helping the middle income earners to save while reducing road congestions. Our infrastructure is no longer able to handle more cars.

In 4 - 5 years time, you will be able to differentiate between the rich and poor on the roads. Previously, one have minimum earnings also can drive a BMW.

actually why only rich can afford?

middle income can still afford as long as they save for the downpayment... it is all about getting priorities right... no meh?

I still think, it will come down a little and bounce back again. If the upper middle income earners, cannot buy a CAT B, they will go of CAR A. So the demand of the COEs will still be there to stay. Not to mention, the continuous in flow of new richer citizens and rich foreigners.

Remember the magic number 6.9 million people!!! How can the COE comes down much?

They are collecting orders at $100K, doesn't mean COE will drop 30K immediately. I believe this price is 6 bid non guarantee (3 mths). So they are expecting COE will drop that much over the next 3 mths. Those who book now at 100K, i don't think they will get their COE in this coming bidding.

Maybe COE will go down to about half

cos people cannot put 50% down.

Then the gov will cut COE and the price

will shoot up again.

So maybe good time to buy now

when it goes down cos it won't stay

down for long. Esp with 6.9 million people.

:D
