Albeniz Turbocharged February 17, 2023 Share February 17, 2023 My maid's phone is spoilt so I am thinking of getting her the most basic android phone for her so that she can whatsapp and video call home. Any recommendation for a cheap, workable model? I just need something rather basic.

It is more of a gift for her so that she can call back home (she broke hers). She can't choose, as it is a gift from me. A find X5pro (essentially same phone with slightly better camera) local set is 1048. A pixel 7 256gb is 1150. Lala81 Hypersonic February 27, 2023 Share February 27, 2023 Saw this on Fb. and there are multiple Singaporeans complaining about this post android/system update on their phones. I found on the internet, it's a software issue, then follow their advise to install another app which controls the brightness. Somehow this fixed the problem and we use the phone until it died. So this is not the first time, Samsung has screwed up. But if their support fails as the previous time, then their reputation is quickly going down the drain. Apparently, it's a software issue, and not a hardware problem. I already had bad experience with Xiaomi CS. I don't expect much from Oppo or OnePlus CS either, although I haven't experienced any failure yet. Hopefully the phone lasts around 5 yrs, and it's cheap enough just to replace them.
Watwheels Supersonic February 28, 2023 Share February 28, 2023 Put a green line on the screen so that users will go replace the screen. What a great idea$. Doesnt Samsung engineers update the software on their own test phone to run it first? This seems to tell ppl that they dont do that. Or do they just run a loop test and call it a day? Or do they use an iphone? So no care given to their company's phone?
Blueray Hypersonic February 28, 2023 Share February 28, 2023 my personal POV is that for Android phones, 2 Android updates is the max the hardware can take. unlike Apple where the architecture is consistent. 3 months ago saw a pending update on my mum's Poco, so press download and update lor. after that screen went blank and phone could not be booted. what followed was a month long ding and dong with Xiaomi customer service and Xiaomi service centre. phone was eventually repaired (motherboard changed) and now I just dont update anymore. Just leave it on Android 11 / MIUI 12. after this will be Oppo cos the warranty is 2 years whereas Poco is just 1 year.

It sounds like they deliberately install a flaw in the system so that after using 1 or 2 years the phone will die. Time to buy their new phone that has just launched. Haha... I wont be surprised if this were to be true. I mean iphone slow down the performance of their older models. I think other phone makers will do smth similar. It is a phone making business, what else can they do to improve their profits? It is to keep ppl buying their new phone time after time. Why are ppl buying cloud storage? I think it is this reason too. Backing up their important photos in case the phone OS crashes. It is a conspiracy maybe but it is generating business directly or indirectly. It is hard to investigate especially for the Android system cos it is an open system whereby the developers of various companies have access to it. So what if the firmware update has been hacked? And the phone company dont even know it until much later. Edited February 28, 2023 by Watwheels
