We had outbreak before, not too long ago, at the ABC Market there. But it's fairly easily contained.

Most Singaporeans are vaccinated? Like the current measles outbreak in UK and US, we probably won't have a very bad one.

Oh my BCG vaccination, which includes TB, probably out of protection period by now.

This one must ask vaccine expert, @Fcw75. Haven't seen him for a while.

Malaysia’s TB outbreak: Public urged to mask up in crowded places as cases hit over 3,100

KUALA LUMPUR – As Malaysians flock to Ramadan bazaars and breaking-fast gatherings, the Health Ministry is reminding the public to observe tuberculosis (TB) precautions, especially in crowded and enclosed spaces.

In a statement issued on Feb 21, the ministry said a total of 596 new tuberculosis cases were reported nationwide during the sixth epidemiological week from Feb 8 to 14.

The statement said the latest detections brought the cumulative number of tuberculosis cases to 3,161 across the country.

“Crowded, enclosed and poorly ventilated spaces increase the risk of transmission, especially if an individual with untreated active TB is present,” it said.

“Ramadan itself is not a cause of TB transmission. However, higher social interaction during the month may increase exposure risks.”

The ministry stressed that community awareness and proactive measures are key to early detection, effective treatment and prevention of TB spread.

“With collective action, we can ensure a safe and healthy Ramadan for all,” the statement added.

“Unlike influenza or Covid-19, TB spreads more slowly and usually requires prolonged and repeated exposure.”

The public is advised to practise proper cough and sneeze etiquette, ensure good indoor ventilation, wear masks if symptomatic or in crowded areas, and seek medical attention for coughs lasting more than two weeks or other TB-related symptoms.

The breakdown of cases shows that Sabah recorded the highest number with 755 cases, followed by Selangor with 596 and Sarawak with 332 cases.

Johor was next with 280 cases, while the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya recorded 244 cases.

Kedah registered 181 cases, followed by Penang with 172 cases and Perak with 154 cases.

Kelantan recorded 121 cases, Pahang had 103, Terengganu 74, and Negeri Sembilan 62.

Meanwhile, Melaka saw 48 cases, Perlis reported 21, and the Federal Territory of Labuan registered the lowest number at 18 cases.

I have booked train tickets with my families to JB next month 20th Mar. Dunno whether wants to cancel my trip to JB since there is TB outbreak in Malaysia. Any suggestions please

Train to JB ? with kids or elderly? 

Actually TB is spread by close /prolonged contact with infected persons when they cough or sneeze, low risk with short /occasional contact.

With the close proximity and the massive human traffic with JB, I will not be surprised some already came to Singapore.

Your have to judge what is best for your family, don't think anyone can give a better suggestion.

Sound serious. The volume of people moving between the 2 countries daily is very high. Wonder have the ministries taken any preventive measures or wait and see.

Definitely stay in my 'cave' is the safest and most comfy. This was how we had managed to gone thru the covid period lo. Lol.

BCG vaccination is only protective towards kids for mostly systemic tuberculosis. Not that effective against lung TB.
It doesn't work well as you get older, that's why 10-20 years ago we stopped BCG booster. 

Basically as long as you are not overcrowded or in close contact with lung TB patients, u should be fine.

would immuno patients also be at risk?  Anyways, they at risk regrdless hahahahaha
