  1. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...318-268732.html QINGDAO - ONE man went to the extreme of having his Lamborghini Gallardo, an Italian supercar, destroyed in public on World Consumer Rights Day three days ago to show his dissatisfaction with the carmaker's services. He even recorded and broadcasted the event live on China's micro-blogging service, Weibo. According to an online user on video-sharing website Youtube, the businessman from Qingdao, Shandong province in China, said the engine of his sportscar, a Lamborghini Gallardo L140, failed to start on Nov 29, 2010, just six months after he bought it. The report said he contacted the Lamborghini dealer in Qingdao and a trailer of a maintenance service provider was sent to deliver the car to a workshop. However the businessman found out the problem was not resolved when the car was returned. Worse, the bumper and chassis were also damaged, probably during the towing, according to the report. When the owner pointed out the problems at the workshop, they denied any wrongdoing, the report said. The owner then tried to escalate the issue to executives higher up in the corporate hierarchy but "no one took responsbility for what had happened", the report said. The owner decided to hire a group of construction workers to destroy his sportscar on World Consumer Rights Day, March 15, to attract attention to the problem of consumer rights in China. The report said that he felt this was the only way he could protest against Lamborghini China's lack of high-quality service. Lamborghini China said in the past three months, it has never given up on repairing the vehicle and has actively sought to meet all the requests of the dealer and the owner and raised numerous solutiuons. It also said it was apologetic for the inconvenience that the repair work has caused the owner and felt regret at the smashing of the Lamborghini. In China, a Lamborghini Gallardo retails for around 3 million yuan ($584,700), depending on specification.

  5. The much-awaited successor to the Lamborghini Murcielago, the rumored Aventador, will be unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in early March. In addition, Lamborghini has also revealed details on the suspension. The Murcielago's replacement will come with an F1-inspired pushrod spring and damper concept, tuned to meet the needs of a high-performance road-going vehicle. Specifically, Lamborghini said that instead of linking to the wheel mounts, the spring/damper elements are connected to the body shell structure in a transverse position. Because of this setup, wheel control and damper are separate units, improving handling and the reaction of the springs/dampers. This allowed engineers to use springs which are less stiff, thereby increasing comfort. Last but not least, the shock absorbers are equipped with a hydraulic lifting system, capable of raising the front end of the car by 4 centimeters at the push of a button, allowing small obstacles to be negotiated without causing damage to the front bumper. All suspension parts are made from a forged aluminum alloy. The hydraulic steering system comes with three different servotronic settings, ranging from the hardcore

  8. According to Autocar, Lamborghini chief Stephan Winkelmann has embarked on a world tour to showcase the Murcielago-replacement to selected clients - a model Lamborghini has still not yet officially named. "We've allowed the dealers to select which customers are invited instead of getting involved directly. They know who they need to invite because, in some cases, these are people they have been dealing with for many years," Winkelmann told Autocar. The next flagship Lamborghini model, possibly to be called the Aventador, will be lightweight in construction, featuring a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis. It will come with a new 6.5 liter V12 producing 515 kW (700 PS) and 690 Nm of torque. Lamborghini also has a new gearbox for this lineup-topping model. A 7-speed single clutch gearbox called the ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) transmission. The new gearbox features exceptionally quick shift times (50 percent quicker than a double-clutch gearbox) by means of the independent shifting rods. 0 to 100 km/h on the model will be 2.9 seconds and top speed should be around 350 km/h (217 mph). The Murcielago-replacing Lamborghini is expected to debut at the Geneva auto show next March. Source: Autocar

  10. Lamborghini recently issued a press release for another of its lightweight, higher performance variant of the Gallardo Spyder. This new Gallardo convertible model is named the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante. This basically means that this would be the fastest drop-top Gallardo you could possibly buy from Lamborghini. In line with Lamborghini's drive for ultimate 'lightness' in all of their cars, this Spyder Performante gets all of the lightweight stuff the Gallardo Superleggera has and more. The Spyder Performante now weighs inat 1,485kg. This is 65kg lighter than the standard LP560-4 Spyder. The weight reduction was achieved by replacing lots of bits and pieces with carbon fiber and aluminium. While the Spyder Performante loses a lot of unnecessary stuff and adds lightweight items like carbon backed alcantara trimmed seats and also carbon interior trim, it keeps the air conditioning and power windows. You wouldn't want to be all stuffy and smelly in an extremely expensive supercar would you? The front end looks different from the usual Spyder. It has an extremely aggressive front splitter with the 'Performante' wording on it. It juts out quite far in front. Imagine a snow plough but one used to cleave through air instead of snow and ice. The side skirts and a totally redesigned (also with 'Performante' written on it), very large rear diffuser also add to the visual drama as well as helping to differentiate it further from the more 'standard' model. The 19inch alloy wheels are lightweight and run Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. There is also a full flat floor underneath the car, helping out the stability and aerodynamics. All in the name of performance. The 570 in LP570-4 stands for the amount of PS the engine makes, 570ps or 562bhp. The 5.2liter V10 also makes 540Nm of torque and this is sent through the Lamborghini E-Gear (6speed semi-automatic) or the 6 speed manual transmission to the all-wheel drive system (hence the '4' in LP570-4). All this power enables the Spyder Performante hit 100km/h from a standstill in 3.9seconds and a maximum speed of 324km/h. All this makes this Gallardo a fabulous piece of Italian engineering. It however makes me think that Lamborghini is on its last legs in its evolution of the Gallardo and that a new model should be brewing up pretty soon. This assumption is quite true as it has been a good seven years since the Gallardo was launched and the game may have moved further on by Ferrari with their 458 Italia (Of course, there isn't a 458 Spyder on the market as yet).
  11. I spotted a Lamborghini Murcielago Comfort taxi refueling at a petrol station. NTUC Comfort logo, like what you see on the usual Hyundai Sonata Comfort taxis, have not been painted on the doors yet. Wonder if the flag down fare would be more expensive than the Chrysler 300C's $5.00?
  12. With the Murcielago out of production, Lamborghini prepares itself for the launch of its replacement (some have called it the 'Jota', which I doubt would be the name) in 2011-2012. So how do they tell their fans, loyal customers and also the general public? They preview an important part of any top of the range Lamborghini ; the V12 engine. It has been stated that the Lamborghini range topping cars must run a V12 engine. And the Murcielago replacement stated for launch next year will get a totally new Lamborghini engine and transmission. The Lamborghini V12 will have 6.5liters, similar in capacity to the outgoing Murcielago but it is a totally new engine without any major carry over parts. It will have a power output of 700bhp (up from the 670hp that the Murcielago LP670-4 makes) and a maximum torque of 690Nm. The power will be channeled to the wheels via a new automated manual gearbox (called the Lamborghini ISR transmission or Independent Shifting Rod in full) that weighs 79kg and has a shifting time (according to Lamborghini) 50% faster than the equivalent DSG (heavier too) type gearbox. The engine weighs in at 225kg making this supercar drivetrain one of the lightest in the business. The crankcase and the four-valve cylinder heads are made from aluminum-silicon alloy for a reduction of weight. The new V12 has a short-stroke layout ensures exceptional high-revving performance and very low internal friction. A lengthy process of fine tuning perfected the thermal management system for the high-performance power unit, as well as the oil circulation system with dry-sump lubrication. The intake system with four individual throttle valves is highly complex with an extremely well-rounded torque curve and outstanding pulling power across the rev range the reward. According to Lamborghini, the exhaust system delivers the lowest emission levels for a supercar, as well as that unmistakable, spine-tingling Lamborghini sound

  17. Automobili Lamborghini, manufacturer of world renowned supercars has launched a brand spanking new official online store for their customers and fans to purchase official Lamborghini branded stuff. Http://www.lamborghinistore.com features direct ordering without online registration and is managed by a subsidiary of Lamborghini Holding, Lamborghini Artimarca SpA with EPI Merchandising, an e-commerce provider and licensee of many other top brands. I suppose Lamborghini intends to fully capitalize on its brand worthiness by providing a more interactive avenue to market and sell products under its name. This is much like its Italian rivals, Ferrari, who however seem to have caught on this brand marketing trend very early on and now has its name plastered on everything from mugs, cellphones, t-shirts, laptops and most probably on some kitchen sink too. Anyway, from Collezione Automobili Lamborghini, you can buy online a mug for 24Euro (not including shipping) or customize a 1963 vintage look sweatshirt with your name for 170Euro. There are also mouse pads, pillows, teddy bears, menswear, womenswear, children's wear, Lamboworld items as well as Super Trofeo branded apparel (Super Trofeo is the Lamborghini Gallardo specific championship). For those that do not only want to buy the brand but something higher up the product line there is also the Lamborghini LP640 by Versace lineup. The LP640 moniker comes from the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 model that ironically had been recently discontinued. There are LP640 keyrings, bags, wallets and a belt. The key ring alone costs 205Euro, which is actually pretty reasonable if you intend to use it to hold the key of your 170,000Euro Gallardo. It would be as useful if it held the ignition key to a slightly used and slightly battered Fiat Panda.
  18. It is absolutely amazing to wake up in the morning, open up your email and receive news from Lamborghini on the unveiling of their latest concept car at the Paris Motor Show (Aside from actually being there, that is). This time, Lamborghini have called their concept car the Sesto Elemento, or Sixth Element (in the periodic table, carbon is the sixth element, hence its name). This car is about the size of a Gallardo but weighs an amazing 999kg - A whole kilogram below 1000kg and an amazing 341kg lighter than the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. The Sesto Elemento is still packed with the usual Lamborghini 5.0liter V10 engine and its all-wheel drive drivetrain. A truly amazing achievement in an era where weight has caused all cars to be slightly heavier than its supposed to be. And due to its light weight, the car has a power to weight ratio of 570bhp/ton. Compare this with the 420bhp/ton of the normal Gallaro Superleggera and you know you have a winner folks. 0-100km/h is now 2.5seconds with a similar V-max of 300km/h compared with the porkier Gallardo Superleggera. Only an Ariel Atom, a ridiculous Caterham SuperSports with a V8 or a Bugatti Veyron would achieve such vicious acceleration this side of a superbike. All this weight loss comes from Lamborghini investing in the latest carbon fiber technology. According to Lamborghini, the Sesto Elemento has an extremely solid, stiff, safe and lightweight carbon-fiber structure: the monocoque cell of the Sesto Elemento. The entire front frame, the exterior panels and crash boxes are also made from CFRP. The Sesto Elemento
  19. [extract] After almost a decade in production, the Murcielago has now rolled off into history. The final Murcielago was a Murcielago LP670-4 Superveloce in Arancio Altas or orange. It was the 4,099th produced, left the Sant' Agata factory on 11th May 2010 and headed to a Swiss customer. This is the end of an era as the Murcielago was designed before it was absorbed under Audi. It was the final, totally
