  2. First five digital traffic red light cameras start operations on Mar 1 POSTED: 27 Feb 2014 23:19 The new digital cameras do not require constant reloading and retrieval of the wet-film negatives for back-end processing, and are designed to stay operational 24/7 to detect motorists who attempt to beat the red light. SINGAPORE: The first five of the digital traffic red light cameras installed by the Traffic Police will start operations on March 1. The Traffic Police said last December that it has started installation and testing process for the first five units of the Digital Traffic Red Light Camera System at the following locations: - Victoria Street by Arab Street towards Lavender Street - Victoria Street by Ophir Road towards Bras Basah Road - Victoria Street by Rochor Road towards Lavender Street - Lavender Street by Jalan Besar towards Balestier Road - Ophir Road by Beach Road towards ECP Police said these five units have all been installed at the respective locations and will begin operations from 1 March 2014 at 0001 hours onwards. The new digital cameras do not require constant reloading and retrieval of the wet-film negatives for back-end processing, and are designed to stay operational 24/7 to detect motorists who attempt to beat the red light. The Traffic Police also reminded motorists that beating a red light attracts a fine and 12 demerit points against the traffic offender. Those who beat the red light twice within 24 months will have their licence suspended as they would have accumulated 24 demerit points. - CNA/de (source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/first-five-digital/1014806.html )
  3. Hi Bros, I was just wondering, that as we buy newer models of the car cams, the older ones tend to be relegated to the rear or into the house cupboard. By any chance can we do a resell of our old car cams in this thread or do we have to sell in the Classified section? I mean like personal one to one exchange or sell to other users.. Thanks in advance for ur advice!
  4. What do you think? We install chaff in our cars to prevent speed cams from capturing.....
  5. becareful of lornie and lentor area. shooting range is up to 400 meters, so dont see them jam ur brakes it will be too late ...better slow down once you hit those area
  6. Hi guys, I just noticed that the overhead bridge speed cams are back after a " break" saw 1 on the bridge at the Balestier Road exit along PIE ( towards the west) hiding at the side of the bridge behind the plants. Also just saw one at the bridge at upper bukit timah ( opposite courts, beside south heaven/the church there), TP also at the side of the bridge. So please take note :) Not worth it tio summon like that. Cheers all
  7. Do any bros here know that whether SBS or other company buses fitted with Cams to take pics of those who flouts bus lane??
  8. i wonder wad is wrong with drivers on the road when they approaching a speed cam, they must travel like 10km/hr slower than the rated speed, eg. driving at 90km/hr approaching a 90km/hr camera, they would slow down to 80km/hr or slower, it's happening even on lane 1, wad are they thinking? doesn't they know that speed camera give an allowance? even if they dun know, they can just stick to the rated speed wad. sorry for the rants
  9. anyone knows where can i grind my cams? (i got a few spare ones) The number one myth about reground cams is that they will wear, because, or if, they are not properly hardened after grinding. The cams are cast iron, and require NO hardening after grinding. The only post grinding process is something called parkerizing, which gives them that flat black.grey look. It is a type of surface treatment that etches the metal, and enhances lubricity (oil sticks to it better) during startup. I got the specs that i want just need someone who can do the job....anyone knows where can i do it??

Has anyone changed the cams on their DOHC starlets? If yes what options do we have for a more aggresive cam profile???
  11. Noticed there are two kinds of warnings on the expressways. There are those which are in rather small lettering under the expressway sign that says "Camera Zone", while there are those big signs the say "Speed Camera Ahead" or something like that. I do notice the big stationary cameras mounted in the center divider after I pass by those big signs, but can't see any around those areas that say "Camera Zone". So what are these camera zones? Do they mean speed camera, or just mean surveillance cams mounted on lampposts to monitor traffic? The other qn is.. which direction is the speed camera mounted at the center divider aiming at? Should I slow down before or after the camera, and at what distance? Tks for helping a noob.
  12. anyone knows why there's 4 cams on road just before Thomson ERP gantry?
  13. Interesting article : SPARK PLUGS We have had this one before, but readers are still asking about types of sparking plug and which are the best for power. Please note: muti-earth electrode plugs are not designed to increase power output. The only reason they are becoming popular is that the service intervals are getting so long that a normal plug wears out before the service is due. By having two or three electrodes, the spark can choose the shortest path to earth which means it moves about as they wear down - and therefore the service life is extended. For power output, the real trick is finding the right grade of plug. Plugs with similar grades from different manufacturers are not exactly the same which is why some people find one brand of plug better than another in one particular engine. You have to experiment with each engine to see what it likes. FLYWHEELS Lighten and balance are words we often use, without stopping to explain exactly what we mean and why they're important. For instance, what are 'lightened' flywheels and why do they allow the engine to generate more power? Well for starters they do not affect the power output of the engine one way or another. Let's begin with why we have a flywheel in the first place; it's more than just somewhere to put the clutch and starter ring gear. The flywheel effectively stores the energy acting on the crankshaft. It smooths out the pulses from the firing cylinders and reduces the tendency of the engine to rock on idle. It allows lazy gear shifting by keeping up engine rpm when the clutch is depressed and the throttle is closed during gear changes. This is fine on a family car but we look for something different. The down side of the heavy flywheel is that it takes energy to accelerate it, energy that could be better employed in accelerating the car. The way to think of it is that every gram taken off the flywheel is like one gram (multiplied by the overall gear ratio) taken off the car. For example, reduce the flywheel weight by 1kg and with an overall gear ratio of 10.1 your car is effectively 10kg lighter. Note now that 1kg off the centre of the flywheel is not as effective as 1kg off the outside - now I'm sure you are getting the picture. The lighter flywheel also allows the engine to slow down quicker so gear changes can be made in a hurry. Generally speaking, for a competition engine you cannot have the flywheel (and clutch assembly) too light. CAMSHAFTS We get a lot of enquiries about camshaft specs where readers are trying to fathom out which camshaft to buy. Sadly the numbers given by manufacturers only give you a clue as to what performance you can expect from a camshaft. So much depends on what you do with rest of the engine, and the exhaust in particular. As an example, I have seen a 300 degree camshaft in a Pinto regularly peak at 6,400rpm. But when the exhaust is swapped from a 4-2-1 to a 4-1 design, peak power shifts up towards the 8,000rpm mark. But this isn't a general rule, the lengths and design of the 4-1 system are critical. If you get the lengths right you need not lose out on bottom end or mid-range power either. Generally it would appear that a 4-2-1 design will ultimately give you better results on a competition engine. Going around the country on rolling road tours I regularly find that the best engines use 4-1 manifolds rather than 4-2-1 but that isn't always the case, there are plenty of Pintos making 200bhp on 4-2-1 systems. From our own experience the exhaust has a major influence on how well the camshaft works - or doesn't work. On our Golf we tried a 300 degree cam which gained 2bhp on peak and lost power everywhere else. But then we refitted the stock cam and Magnex developed an exhaust manifold and system for us. The exhaust picked up some l2bhp on the stock cam but when we fit/ed our 300 degree camshaft we gained l4bhp on peak with improved mid-range. As with all engine mods you have to look at the overall pictures before you start making up general rules to apply to all engines. from Demon Tweeks 2002
