Those in the know are already well aware of the love and admiration Toyota's fifth-generation Corolla garners. It's a love affair that has continued to burn some 30-plus years on. A hit for the automaker, the fifth-generation Corolla would go on to see over 3 million sales worldwide in the mid-1980s. Today, fans around the globe continue to restore and modify the E80 front-engine, rear-wheel-drive version, but often come up short when hunting down OEM replacement pieces which have long been discontinued—until now. Continuing The Tradition Toyota Gazoo Racing is rolling out OEM replacement parts for both the iconic AE86 coupe and liftback models under its GR Heritage Parts program. If you recall, a similar program is currently in place for the 2000GT, original Land Cruiser, and A70- and A80-generation Supra models. Known as the Levin and Sprinter in Japan, both of which are nicknamed "hachi-roku" or eight-six (designation derived from the A engine series; E Corolla platform; 8 for the 5th generation chassis; and 6, the variant within the model run), the 1983-87 chassis are far and away the most sought after Corollas by enthusiasts around the globe. Praised for its classic drivetrain layout and lightweight chassis, the affordable, sporty people mover immediately became a fan favorite among young drivers in the '80s, and that spirit lives on to this day. A massive aftermarket supports suspension makeovers, aggressive body modification, and a laundry list of engine swap ancillary parts. OEM pieces, however, have become virtually nonexistent. This new run of production pieces will be made available through Toyota dealers, just like current model genuine parts, though Toyota notes that they will only be produced for a limited time. Once production ends, whatever is left on the parts shelves will continue to be made available and once those sell out, it's a wrap. Ready For Delivery In addition to the in-person purchases, you can find a list of available parts on the Toyota Gazoo Racing website and even put in your order through the web. As of today, the site lists new disc brakes and steering knuckles for the AE86, with rear driveshafts expected next month and more parts to be added in time. >

Hadri arrived on the Thai border earlier this morning, updating followers via Instagram that his journey so far has been smooth sailing. Hadri’s friend and fellow car enthusiast Lim Wai Hong, wrote on his motoring Facebook page Hayashi86.com that the 34-year-old met his future wife in Germany back in 2007. The two were acquainted prior to that via the Internet and that the language barrier was never an issue. Two years later, Hadri flew back to Germany to see her and confessed his love for her with a stalk of rose and a letter. They have been together ever since and Hadri popped the question a few years later. “He wants to show his fiancée he is doing this for her and it’s how much he’s willing to sacrifice — it’s a beautiful story,” Lim told Malay Mail when contacted. On behalf of his friend, Lim added that Hadri’s father helped his son to plan the driving routes and calculate the petrol consumption and mileage required to complete the journey. The trip, christened The Retro Havoc Motorsport World Tour will also be promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VM2020) at each destination during the expedition’s 98-day journey. can follow his instagram here https://www.instagram.com/ae86worldtour/

Iconic cars from movies and TV shows (Part 1)

[extract] Almost every single one of us has a favourite car from a movie or TV show, regardless whether we are car enthusiasts or not. As for me, my favourite is the Ford Gran Torino from the police TV show, Starsky and Hutch and the Mini 1000 from the Mr. Bean series. Recently I had a conversation with some of my friends and I asked them what their favourite cars from movies and/or TV shows were. I managed to compile a long list of cars given to me and here are some of them. De Lorean DMC-12 time machine from Back to the Future Back to the Future was a sci-fi adventure movie released in 1985. The two main actors who starred in the film were Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The story is about a teenager who accidentally went back to 1955 in a time machine created by his scientist friend. He met his future parents and somehow became his future mother
  7. Hi fellow MCFians, I'm looking for a white Toyota Corolla AE86 Sprinter Trueno with the same decals as featured in the Initial D movie. Car will be featured in an MTV for Borneo Motors Dinner & Dance themed Movie Extravaganza. It will be a one day photo-shoot event sometime end of this month and I doubt the car needs to be driven much. There will be some remuneration for the job. If you own or know someone who owns the the above mentioned car, kindly give me a call/sms @ 91468636.

    A very green Toyota Levin

At a recent classic car show in Japan a tuning company called Tec Art's, not to be confused with the Porsche tuning company Techart as it has that funny Japanese punctuation, had exhibited another one of those classic Japanese cars that have been tweaked by adding current automotive tech. This makes the a 20 or 30 year old classic run reliably on current technology for the ease of its owners. Tec Art's Eco Hatchi-Roku (86) is one of those type of modded cars but it has a twist. This old AE86 is an eco-mentalist's dream of a tree hugging classic car. According to the design brief, the car is supposed to be more fuel efficient the original 4A-G engine and environmentally cleaner too. The engine is still a 4A-G but it now runs an APEX Power FC stand alone programmable ECU. This allows Tech Art to precisely tune the engine's air-fuel ratio. The power steering has been modernized by replacing the hydraulic motor system with an electric motor (see photo above). It uses the original steering rack but it has been modified so that an electric motor assists in the turning. The only drawback to this system is the lack of feel. The benefit is usually a 3% savings in fuel consumption. I'd rather have the hydraulic system thank you. Another upgrade is that a variable intake system is used. The intake manifold has two intake valves that switches between high and low rpm. To increase torque at low rpm the valve closes on one side (for more tumble and swirl) and at higher rpm both valves opens up. The valve control is manual where the driver can use a setting (for torque) for city commuting and the other for fast road driving. Amazingly, this old 86 can make 18km/l. And at highway cruising speeds 19.6km/l was achieved. This means that this old car is as economical or even more economical than a Honda Jazz. A Levin at the very best made 11-12km/l. The best thing was that no power was sacrificed for this figures to be achieved and the Eco-86 made 129.9ps (at the wheel) and 161Nm of torque from the ancient 1.6 4A-G engine. The stock 4A-G made about 125bhp at the flywheel, so it still is a good improvement. Tec Art's intends to get 20km/l by spending more time fine tuning the system. Quite an amazing achievement, modernizing a classic into something quite eco-friendly. Quite, as nothing had been said about having catalytic converters or stuff like that.

    Return of the AE86?

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/rumoure...6-more-details/ Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008.
  15. Autoblog.com reported last monday (July 30th) that Toyota is in the process of forming a special committee dedicated to creating interesting cars, mainly because Toyota has no sports cars left in their current line-up. Lexus is of course working on some good stuff, i.e. the IS-F and LF-A, but since the MR2 and Supra, Toyota has only been supplying the non-performance section of the market. So the time has come for the resurrection of the AE86, a Corolla coupe from the 80's. Japanese car magazine Best Car (Japanese language site) has pried loose some initial specs of the AE86: under 4m long, approximately 1,7 m wide, measuring 1,35m from the ground up, target weight lies under 1000kg, will most likely be powered by a 1,5 liter 2NZ-FE engine. Toyota's new partner, Fuji Heavy Industries (or Subaru to most people) will be supplying the RWD drivetrain. Like the Scion xD, which is branded as the Toyota ist in Japan, there is a good possiblity that the AE86 might make it to the USA as a new Scion tC, or as an entirely new Scion budget performance car. Toyota is aiming for a 1.5mil Yen (or $12,300 / under 10,000Euro) price tag. for more pics. visit..
