  1. Let's start with this https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/ocbc-bank-customer-lost-120k-in-fake-text-message-scam-another-had-250k-stolen Young couple lost $120k in fake text message scam targeting OCBC Bank customers SINGAPORE - It took a man and his wife five years to save about $120,000, but in just 30 minutes, scammers using a fake text message stole the money they had kept in their OCBC Bank joint savings account. The couple in their 20s were among at least 469 people who reportedly fell victim to phishing scams involving OCBC in the last two weeks of December last year. The victims lost around $8.5 million in total. The husband works in the e-commerce sector, while his wife is in the hospitality industry. The man said he received the phishing message with a link at around noon on Dec 21 last year. A 38-year-old software engineer who fell prey to the same scam on Dec 28 told ST that he lost about $250,000 he had been saving since 2010. The father of a young child with special needs said the loss has been devastating, and he has been hiding it from his family. The bank said it has since halted its plans to phase out physical hardware tokens by the end of March this year, and has also stopped sending SMSes with links in them in the light of the spate of phishing incidents. Cyber security expert Anthony Lim, who is also a fellow at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, said scammers have advanced software enabling them to spoof telecommunications services and send SMSes that appear in the same threads used by real organisations. He added that even if victims did not provide their one-time passwords (OTPs), they would have sealed their fate when they entered other bank details on the fraudulent sites. "Once the victim unwittingly responds by entering the bank account credentials, the hackers' technologies can divert and capture a copy of the SMS OTP issued by the bank," he said.

  5. The Straits Times www.straitstimes.com Published on Jan 5, 2012 http://www.straitstimes.com/print/Breaking...ory_752199.html Unauthorised withdrawals from DBS/POSB accounts By Robin Chan DBS Bank is investigating a potentially large scale bank fraud, after a series of unauthorised withdrawals were made from Malaysia. The bank is combing through all transactions made in Malaysia to validate them, and said that all customers would be fully compensated within 24 hours for any false transactions. 'Some customers informed the bank of unauthorised withdrawals made in Malaysia through their DBS/POSB ATM/debit cards. Their compromised cards were immediately deactivated and we are now taking steps to compensate these customers in full,' said Mr Jeremy Soo, managing director and head of consumer banking group Singapore at DBS Bank, in a statement issued by the bank. Any customer that believes their ATM or debit card has been compromised should contact the bank at 1800-220-1111 or visit any bank branch. The bank will also issue a replacement card on the spot at any of its branches. Copyright
  6. Covid-19: POSB app crashes briefly on Apr. 14 as govt credits S$600 payout to S'poreans source: https://mothership.sg/2020/04/solidarity-payment-posb-app-crash/ Singaporeans will be receiving a S$600 payout credited directly in their bank accounts on Apr. 14. And it seems like Singaporeans are anticipating this cash payout. Just after 12am on Apr. 14, POSB users encountered this error message when they tried to log into their POSB digibank app. What is the S$600 Solidarity Payment? Announced by finance minister Heng Swee Keat on Apr. 6 as part of the Solidarity Budget, the Solidarity Payment consists of: S$300 brought forward from an earlier-announced Care and Support Cash payout And additional S$300 The Solidarity Budget, said Heng, aims to save jobs and protect the livelihoods of Singaporeans during this period of heightened Covid-19 measures. This S$600 Solidarity Payment, said Heng, would be credited into Singaporeans' bank accounts by Apr. 14. Those who did not provide their bank accounts to the government will receive a cheque, which will be issued in stages from Apr. 30. The remaining portion of the Care and Support cash payout will be brought forward to June 2020. This includes: The remaining S$300 or S$600 from the higher tiers of the Care and Support cash payout The additional S$300 payout for each parent with at least one child aged 20 and below The S$100 PAssion Card top-up, which will be given in cash, for Singaporeans aged 50 and above. And if you're wondering how the three budgets — the Unity Budget announced on Feb. 18, the Resilience Budget announced on Mar. 26, and the Solidarity Budget announced on Apr. — will sustain vulnerable Singaporeans through the months ahead, here's a nifty infographic:
  7. http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/...413-339606.html I personally do not use POSB, I find that it not only inconvenience low-income earners but also to everyone else especially when you need to buy something small. When a lot of ppl wanna pay for a bowl of $3 noodles with a $50 note how is the hawker gonna come up with so much change? UOB ATMs at least has an option of minimum $80 withdrawal which has a mix of 3 x $10 and 1 x $50. The next option is $200 btw. MAS is printing more $50 dan $10? So difficult to squeeze $10 notes into the ATMs as it takes up more space and hold lesser value dan $50 notes? The cash escorts make less trips if the ATMs are stuffed with $50 notes? Diesel expensive or the COE for the trucks transporting the cash too expensive? OMG, gahment's fault again . Knn, how not to drift the topic to gahment...again? I hope the ppl working at the banks can be smarter dan studying the "cash withdraw pattern" from a machine and give ppl more options coz there's not much to begin with.
  8. New rule wef 14 April '13, overlimit fee of $40 will be imposed if the total o/s balance exceeds the credit limit at any time. Saw this in the "Specially for you" page which people normally don't read/pay attention to.
  9. My habit has been not to redeem the rebate amount when using my POSB Everyday card for petrol payment. Just realised the other day that it has accumulated to close to $1000! Working backward, I would have pumped $1000/6% = $16k of petrol to accumulate this rebate amount! Just curious anyone can do better? I am actually quite proud of this as I believe most would just redeem the rebate after hitting certain amount for whatever reasons. |Anyway bear in mind this is just a trivial thing, nothing outstanding haha. Just need abit of discipline to achieve - 3 years + to be exact. Those who have been using the card for other expenses would have taken a shorter time to achieve it.

  18. Didn't know that this is happening, so got pissed off by the AXS machine. Keyed in my laundry list of bills as I do every month, only to end up being told that my OCBC ATM card is not accepted anymore. Called up the customer service line and was informed that they are changing the machines to "D-Pay", a supposedly faster form of accepting payment, but only limited to DBS/POSB cards, which means that ALL other banks' ATM cards will not be accepted. Was also informed that by the end of 2009, ALL AXS machines will be "D-Pay", and other banks MAY join in (apparently DBS is a shareholder here). So for those who use AXS machines as a convenient form of paying your bills, don't waste your time if: 1. you do not have a DBS/POSB ATM card and 2. you see a red sticker circumference around the AXS machine's screen. Quoted from AXS website: We are pleased to announce the launch of D-Pay, a new choice of payment on the AXS Station, using your bank's ATM card and PIN. From now till end of the year, D-Pay will be available at up to 100 AXS Stations islandwide. It will be fully rolled out to over 500 AXS Stations by end 2009. Customers of DBS and POSB are the first to be able to use D-Pay to carry out transactions on these AXS Stations. More banks are expected to participate in D-Pay in 2009.
  19. Read today ST Forum Page and was amused by one letter send to ST Forum: Quote: "Come Save with POSB but pay $4.50 to deposit coins" "Complainant's son was happy to received a piggy bank in the form of a 'can' from POSB a few months ago. It was distributed in his school, together with a booklet, to encourage young children to put aside some money daily. It took her son a while to fill the 11 cm-tall can to the brim. She then took her son to the bank on Tuesday to deposit her son savings but found to her dismay that a charge would be imposed on the 500-plus coins which amounted to $86.60. Except for the first 200 colins, there was a charge of $1.50 for every 100 coins and $4.50 was deducted from his POSB account promptly. Her son was clearly upset. It demoralised him to know that he would be charged for makingdeposits in coins should he continue saving money." Weired isn't it!!!! POSB encourage young kids to save by giving them free piggy bank in form of 'can' and later impose a service charge should they deposit their coins with them. They should have waived off the charges for kids so as to encourage them to save. Surely, the cashier could tell on the spot whether it from a kids account or from an adults account. BTW Remember when I was a young kid in primary school, we did received a saving card from then "Post Office Bank" to encourage us to save. What we need to do is to purchase a stamp (5 cent) from the school general office or post office and stick it onto the card. When the card is full ($6.00), we are to bring the card & our pass book to the post office and had it stamped on the card and endorsed ($6.00) in our pass book.
