Should I migrate?

Nobody mentioned migrating to Europe. Other than language being a main barrier for several of the countries, some parts of it is really great to live in as well. The roadside streams are crystal clear, roads and houses are well designed, and people are home lovers (some of the flowers of their potted plants as well as the flowers at their roadsides are lovelier than our best flowers here).

Even their cemeteries are amongst the loveliest parks I ever saw.

I will try to get my child to learn a third language (German or French) so next time have an additional career and residential option.

But for bringing up a family with strong focus on housing, education and security, Singapore is unbeatable especially if you are a Singaporean (my opinion only).

Population can only go up. Not down. With that comes the problem of ever increasing aged population to support as well.

With the lack of land I dont see how the popluation wont hit double figures in the near future.

In time singapore will become a place purely to earn a living. Social life will become non existance. No matter what, quality of life will always be better in nz as compare to sin. Money does represent something but is not everything in life.

Mate, you sure have a negative outlook for life in Singapore.  Lol.  For me, I would like to think of life is how we make out of it.

Singapore can reclaim land to increase her land size.  Right now, we still have plenty of land to cater for more housing, thanks to long term planning.  While some housing are expensive, first time owners are entitled to BTO which are much cheaper, using CPF, and enjoy grants and subsidies as well.  As for those who sell off their house to encash the profit, the government simply cannot guarantee they have cheap housing every time they do so.

Thanks to foreign investments, education, a sound financial ecosystem, judiciary system, transport and civil service, we have much lower unemployment rate than most other countries.  In Taiwan, their graduates take a pay of about a SGD$1000, and most end up doing blue collar jobs despite their education.

In Singapore, one also can have social life beside working.  We can plan time with our family, friends and relative.  In actuality, most of us have such social activities often despite our work and family commitment.  It is a matter of planning.

While in other countries like NZ or USA, it is actually much more difficult to socialise.  For one, you cannot meet up with your friends at coffee shop or the like, cos people stay very far apart and shops are all closed by early evening.  This is precisely one of the reason why I couldn't get used to and left my job in New Hampshire USA.

Lastly, I find it ironical that some formers are always saying money is not everything and blame the government for making us work and emphasizing on economic growth, and yet they are the same ones complaining money is not enough for this and that and things are getting expensive and out of their affordability.  Isn't the government trying to address our needs and the most burning issue then ?

Socialising is done at the pub/bar getting drunk together  [laugh]

If u live in a big city whereby everything is a short distance away, then yeah u can socialise with all kinds of people.

my friend is really into RC gliders. Maybe the whole of singapore will have only 20-30 people who are into this hardcore.

If u stay in the states, maybe the next person who's interested in this, could be another few hundred miles away...

Where else to reclaim land? North no need to talk liao, already touching sea border with Malaysia.

Reclaim South? Need to consider sea port traffic before deciding how much more can be reclaimed.

It's not as easy as you say.

Long term planning already lost touch few years ago la.. Now population is exploding until our public transport infrastructure is in shambles.

Rejoining Malaysia or even reverting back to a british colony might be a consideration.....however impossible it might sound.

Can't recall how many years back, but in the Masterplan upto 20xx, amongst other things, there was a plan to reclaim an elongated island along East Coast.

Yeah, but live in a big city the price of housing and cost of living will be very high also.
