Reckless Cyclist

Whenever I see cyclists riding recklessly on the roads, I try not to get angry because I used to be far more reckless than most other cyclists during my younger days and I will feel like a hypocrite if I were to  [furious]  at them now for their reckless behavior. Luckily I stopped cycling years back or I would probably ended up as a road kill and not have the luxury of posting in here now [grin]

I think this attitude is wrong.

Do you not tell your children not to do something which is wrong just because you used to do the same thing as a child.

If so then maybe this accounts for all the mis behaviour I see kids engage in in public places when their parents are with them.

I say I try not to get angry, not that I will not get angry. No point cursing and swearing at them as the act had already taken place. Even if you curse at them, they can't hear you unless you wind down your window, you are better off focusing on driving and look straight ahead. The last thing you want is to get involved in an accident with another vehicle just because of them reckless cyclists.

Cyclist demand 1.5m overtaking in jalan kayu hahaha

The cyclist too close to the edge of the road so the cabby take his chance to try and overtake. This kind of narrow road better to cycle further out and only move to the side at those areas where the road is wider and it is possible for the car behind to overtake safely. Or just avoid cycling along this road if possible.

I never stop being over-cautious about my son's safety in public places. Cos all you need is that one idiot... Boom!

And yes, there's a special place in Hell reserved for reckless cyclists.

Dear all, please I need your help, please everyone. I am typing this with a heavy heart and trembling fingers. On 10/01/2016 (Sunday), at around 11.15am at the Serangoon Park Connector near the fitness corner towards Punggol (after Hougang Capeview), my 3-year old boy was knocked down by an extremely fast-riding cyclist (in about his forties, wearing full cyclist attire, and said he stays in Pasir Ris) riding a road bike who could not brake in time, despite my husband shouting for precaution when he was already a distance away and knocked into my son. The cyclist said that he could not stop, because his feet were clipped on (despite hearing my husband's shouting from afar). We do not know how that works but if so, then why was he even riding at such lightning speed where other people are?? Why was he jeopardizing others' safety, for the sake of his own leisure? At the point of time, the cyclist dismounted and apologized to my husband, who was the only one with my son. But my husband was in a shocked state of mind, did not have anything with him at all, and didn't know what to do or reply. The cyclist then reluctantly offered my husband a mere $10 note, expecting us to bring our son to receive medical care. Then, he offered a few more small notes after being scolded by my husband. Eventually, he left without leaving a number or anything. Please help me to share, in order to find this cyclist. It is my son today, and can be anyone tomorrow. (There are many others who saw, and went forward to help my husband. If you are one of them, then please step up to help us by providing more details of the cyclist. If you are the cyclist, PLEASE. Have a heart and own up.) My heart has been shattered into a million pieces, and an ambulance has come to fetch my son. He is in a state of shock, his mouth is currently severely swollen, bloody, saliva and blood dripping constantly uncontrollably, tooth got knocked off with other shaky teeth present, forehead and knee cap suffering from abrasions. Please, share this post and help me. Thank you all.

This is why cyclists have a speed limit in the PCN. This cyclist want to cycle fast, should be on the road. The PCN is not suitable as it is a shared path.

Impotent LTA/NParks/TP to be blamed about these reckless cyclists.

I probably would punch the guy and definitely throw the cycle into the longkang if it happened to my family.

I'm really glad to see some positive updates.  Kudos to the police for proactively investigating this case.  Other reckless cyclists need to be made aware that they can't just put others in danger and hope to easily escape accountability.  Safety education or not, let's face it, the most effective way to change bad cycling behaviors is through the fear of punishments. It's human nature.

*Update at 11pm* We sincerely wish to thank the Singapore Police Force (AMK & HG divisions), Lianhe Wanbao, and Victor Lye for volunteering their help and to drop by in order to understand more regarding this incident. Also wish to thank our families and friends, who were there for us and helped us through this difficult period. Unfortunately, the National Parks Board has mentioned that there are no CCTVs in that area. Please also take note that the main purpose of this post is to serve as a painful reminder to everyone- Cyclists or not. It is not to defame the cyclist. People have to know that it is never okay to risk others' safety at any point of time. Thank you.

*Update at 7pm* My boy is finally home from KK Hospital, but is unable to sleep or talk properly due to the pain, swellings, saliva/blood flowing out uncontrollably, and stitches. He is unable to eat or even chew, and is having difficulties consuming liquids through a straw. An x-ray has been done, with no bone damage found. Doctors have advised to monitor and return to the hospital for any issues, and for further follow-ups, as well as stitch removals. He also has not seen a dentist due to a tooth being knocked off upon impact and other shaky teeth, as that will have to wait because he has cuts inside his mouth as well.

I always slow to crawl when I cycle pass young kids as I am afraid that they might suddenly change direction and course to the path I am overtaking the family. Even if I cycle 20plus km/h in pcn. In front got kids, I will slow down to super slow, make sure all is aware I am going to cycle pass them and also parents get hold of the kids before pass them and speed up again. I hope many will also do so but well...

Better to just restrain the guy. Punch him and end up you might be the one that get charged instead.
