Tonight, I visited the child who was knocked down this morning by a cyclist along the park connector near Punggol Park. My concern was his condition and follow ...up care. His kindergarten's executive principal made the effort to visit the family with me, and will see if the medical expenses can be recovered. I have shared his mother's post to remind cyclists about safety and responsibility. Seen here is the poor boy with stitches, swollen lips, bruises and abrasions. His teeth have been knocked out and loosened. The child's father was so shocked and shakened that he did not obtain the cyclist's personal details. The cyclist should not have ridden off. We must have rules, guidelines and a community etiquette to govern the safety and use of shared spaces. The review committee looking into this matter should present its recommendations soon. What are your recommendations?

But they don't do anything about the PCNs. LTA only cares about those on the road and pavements.

I must say it is pointless to licence cyclist just to avoid accidents. Don't car drivers required a licence and yet we have so many accidents?

 

I feel we need to prioritise our limited land and ensure we know who we should protect. foot path is for human. if you are a small child in a tricycle, I can understand. That is why it is called a foot path/pavement.

 

Why do bicycle needs to be on footpath? Because they are afraid of motor vehicles. Similarly, human also afraid of bicycle, so they move into?

 

If we want to encourage cycling, we need to improve and educate cycling on road. Once we improve public transport, with car reduction, cycling may be feasible.

 

Incidentally, the danger of cycling on the road comes from public transport. Mainly the buses and heavy vehicles, rarely the saloon cars.

just open up your umbrella when walking on the pavement...whether it's under scorching hot sun or showers

 

it requires concerted effort from every pedestrian

 

and there is nothing wrong, there is no law saying that you cannot walk on the pavement with your umbrella on

 

the days of cyclists on the pavement are numbered

They only hate reckless cyclists. Most of my colleagues are quite ok with cyclists and I managed to convert a few of them to cyclists. Now can see 5-6 bicycles in the office everyday.

these days camera technology is widespread, almost everyone got a camera handphone

 

i doubt cyclists dare to misbehave on the pavement

 

i can suggest that once a cyclist is spotted speeding or riding recklessly on the pavement, all approaching pedestrians straightaway brandish the camera and snap him

 

the very next day just upload it online
