  1. TL;DR – A video uploaded on SGRV shows a Malaysian traffic enforcer casually strolling along the long queue of cars at the JB checkpoint and collecting what looks like money from cars travelling on the motorcycle lane. Now, that's easy money! We all like to take shortcuts now and then. I'm guilty of it myself occasionally. There are some shortcuts in life one should never take. This is one of them. OR IS IT? Watch the 42-second video and make that decision for yourself. What happened? If you can't see, the empty left lane is for motorcycles. The right lane is obviously for cars. Along comes a car travelling on the motorcycle lane. Uh oh! The officer walks up to the vehicle's window, sticks his hand in, takes something and goes on his merry way. No words needed. Their relationship transcends the spoken word. He does the same thing with another car, and we can have a closer look at what's being passed to him. Looks like money, doesn't it? Online Chatter Really meh? What tf did I just read? EZPZ money If 50RM like worth it leh? No meh? Just some calculations Let's say if it was 50 RM. Paying a 15 SGD fine is okay to skip the queue, no? Even if it's 100 RM, that's like 30 bucks to escape a long wait time. 3. Opposition members of parliament (MPs) walked out of Malaysia's Dewan Rakyat on Dec. 14, protesting the presence of three lawmakers who were meant to be under home quarantine. According to Malaysiakini, the trio — made up of Health Minister Adham Baba and Human Resources Minister M Saravanan as well as MP P Prabakaran from the opposition — appeared in full personal protective equipment (PPE). They had been quarantined after being exposed to a Covid-19 patient. “What reasons are there for these MPs to be allowed to be present in Parliament when they have been categorised as close contacts (of Covid-19 positive cases)?” opposition MP Xavier Jayakumar asked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun, according to the Malaymail. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim also sought an explanation from the speaker Malaysiakini reported that Azhar responded by saying he was simply following Covid-19 procedures set by the Health Ministry. According to the Malaymail, Azhar said that he had allowed the quarantined MPs to attend as an opposition MP had previously broken quarantine in similar circumstances. However, this did not placate the opposition MPs, the majority of whom from the PKR and DAP parties, and walked out while MPs from the government bench jeered them. https://mothership.sg/2020/12/dewan-rakyat-walkout/ Tit for tat monkey see monkey do. you can why i cannot? lol...
  4. Let me starts the discussion here as the other thread discussion on funnelling of funds. Malaysian government declares polling day a public holiday KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's federal government has declared May 9, polling day, a public holiday. This is to allow all Malaysians to fulfil their responsibilities as voters, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement on Wednesday (Apr 11). “The declaration on the public holiday is made based on Section 8 of the Public Holidays Act 1951 for Peninsular Malaysia and the Labuan Federal Territory,” said the statement. The Malaysian Election Commission had on Tuesday announced dates for nomination and polling day for the country's 14th general election. Many had expressed concern that having the vote on a Wednesday, Malaysia's first weekday poll in nearly two decades, would affect turnout at the ballot boxes. Malaysians had reacted to announcement of the weekday polling date by taking to social media to offer transportation and funds to those who wanted to return to their hometowns to cast their ballots. Several Malaysian companies on Tuesday also declared May 9 a holiday for staff. Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/malaysia-election-polling-day-public-holiday-10127468

  6. If you've been one of the "kan cheong" people waiting to get your Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) approved before driving into Malaysia, here's some good news for you - The implementation of the VEP scheme will only commence next year. According to The Straits Times, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke claimed that the delay is due to the system's inability to cope with the exponential number of vehicles that needed to install the RFID tag. It seems that many Singaporeans are not surprised by this delay. It’s not the first time that there has been a delay with the implementation of the VEP and you can be sure people were quick to call that out. And some people make pretty sound arguments. Wait, does this mean that Singaporean car owners with the RFID tags did the application and probably wasted a weekend queueing up in Malaysia for nothing? Sounds about right. Malaysia Boleh? Case closed. ----------------------------------------------- Still wondering how to get your VEP? We went through the entire process so you can have this handy guide here! -----------------------------------------------

  14. Sunday May 25, 2008 Give them a dressing down On The Beat By WONG CHUN WAI The Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia has once again come up with a ridiculous statement that the white blouse worn by students is too sexy. THE last time Malaysians had to put up with the notoriety of the Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia was when it called for the ban of the Gwen Stefani concert last year. The student body claimed the singer was too sexy and that her concert would lead to immorality. Now, the same movement has made another ridiculous statement. Its vice-president Munirah Bahari condemned the school uniforms worn by girls in government schools, saying they were too sexy and would cause rapes and sexual immorality. The white blouse, she said, was too transparent for girls and could cause distraction to men, adding the Government should review the uniform to ensure that it would conform to Islamic ideals. She said it was important to
  15. Malaysia busted smuggling syndicate in 'biggest scandal' involving civil servants 468 195 0 1PRINTEMAIL One of the Customs officers being escorted to the court in Petaling Jaya on Sept 4, 2014. -- PHOTO: THE NEW STRAITS TIMES KUALA LUMPUR - An anti-corruption taskforce in Malaysia has uncovered what it believed could be "the biggest scandal involving civil servants". Investigators remanded 24 members of a syndicate running an intricate network at the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) that is believed to have cost the government RM4 billion (S$1.57 billion) in lost revenue, the New Straits Times reported on Friday. Among those arrested were a state customs director and 11 personnel of various ranks from the customs department, said the newspaper. Twelve others were also arrested, including company owners and lorry drivers. Investigation into the syndicate started in 2011, according to the report. The syndicate allegedly left a long money trail that allowed investigators to blow the lid on their illicit operations. "Their lavish lifestyle was among what gave them away. They couldn't have been more blatant in displaying their ill-gotten wealth," one of the investigators said. Among the things seized were 10 luxury cars, including a Porsche, several Audis and Mercedes, and RM3 million in cash. Investigators have also frozen 200 bank accounts allegedly used by the syndicate's network. "RM1.67 billion worth of cigarettes and alcohol were brought into the country under their watch since 2011... but from that amount, only a total value of RM420 million was declared,'' said Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, deputy chief commissioner (Operations) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). "Investigations had shown that the goods were brought in from Scotland, Sweden, Indonesia, Thailand, China, India and Cambodia." The commission is looking at making more arrests soon, said the report. The Star newspaper said the smuggled items were being sold in Malaysia as well as in neighbouring countries. The New Straits Times quoted Shukri as saying this could be just the tip of the iceberg as the estimated losses calculated were based on investigations into only 10 of 70 companies that operate in PKFZ. "The Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Board are crunching the numbers to identify exactly how much the government had lost to this syndicate and how it had affected the market trend." Shukri said the syndicate had allowed into the country high quality cigarettes and liquor, kept them at the PKFZ and released the goods after their minimal tax value were declared. The syndicate used cash in their transactions with importers, and had under their payroll, a large number of people, including the port's gatekeepers, he added. The Malay Mail quoted former PKFZ chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng as saying the Royal Malaysian Customs Department should not be the only agency in control of the zone as such practices could lead to abuse. "The free zone area is fenced from the entrance and the Customs is in control of the entire area," he said. During his tenure as chairman between 2009 to 2011, all entry points were heavily guarded by the Customs while auxiliary police served as back up. "Security screening was strict that even I, as chairman, was required to register and collect a pass at the checkpoint to get into the area. I feel there is too much control by one party," the website quoted Lee as saying. He described the zone as a "gold mine'' as it functions as a warehouse and storage area for goods brought into the country via Port Klang. "Companies stock their goods there before they are sent out. This gives room for wrongdoings," he said, adding that such situations created an opportunity for illegal activities especially during off-peak hours. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/asia/south-east-asia/story/malaysia-busted-smuggling-syndicate-biggest-scandal-involving-civil-#xtor=CS1-10
  16. Last week I decided to sell all of my camera gear as I just couldn’t find the time to use it regularly. Here I had almost $3,500/- worth of camera and lenses that was just sitting in its dry cabinet. So I wrote a nice little description about the gear and posted to ebay, HWZ and gumtree. A couple of days later, I get a reply for the ad posted on gumtree. Buyer communicates via email asking for best price so that she can gift the camera to her brother in Malaysia. So I make her an offer, we negotiate and settle on a price. Now I buy a lot of new stuff online. But when I buy or sell second hand stuff, I prefer to deal with people here in SG as its easier to meet and you know who/what you’re dealing with. Now the girl says she’s on assignment outside of the country and that she will pay via paypal collect. Hmmm…. I have to raise a paypal invoice and money will be credited to my paypal account. Hmmm… I’m not happy about this but still, I only have to spend a couple of minutes creating a paypal invoice so what the heck! I did it and emailed her the invoice. Busy over the weekend so I read her reply only this morning. In it, she says that she has completed the payment and that I should send the tracking number so paypal can complete the transfer. [me: wait… what? I have to send my stuff and then paypal will transfer? uh uh] She also says she sent the funds to paypal account (prabhjot something@gmail) and that paypal’s service message might be in my inbox or spam folder [me: hmmm… who the fck is prabjot whatever? And why the fck should paypal messages be in my spam folder?] I check the spam folder and lo and behold, there’s a message with the email alias “[email protected]” [me: wtf? I pay for stuff using paypal and I’ve always got the messages in my inbox. Now its in spam. Doesn’t smell right] And then I notice the actual email ID used in sending the message. “[email protected]” [me: haha. Now why the fck would paypal use accountant.com domain to send messages] Lol, they even have a small "how do you know this is not a fake email" disclaimer :D So I google the email ID pp_service and sure enough, plenty of hits about people being conned out of their stuff by peeps in MY. The MO and address is the same; 1) reply to personal ads (mostly camera’s) on ebay/gumtree (seems gumtree being abused more) 2) try some token negotiation to instil confidence 3) get seller to send paypal invoice and promise to pay to paypal account for both the item and the shipping cost 4) send a bogus email claiming funds will be credited once paypal verifies evidence of shipment 5) disappear So guys beware when peddling/buying stuff online. Just for laugh, I sent this reply to "Kim" this morning;

  18. Shame on him, I bet he is one of the rapist! MALAYSIA HOME MINISTER: NON-MALAYS ARE MORE OKAY WITH BEING http://therealsingapore.com/content/malaysia-home-minister-non-malays-are-more-okay-being-raped KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar played armchair psychologist in Parliament today in an attempt to explain why statistics on statutory rape show that most of the victims are Malays. According to him, statutory rape offends Malay sensibilities more than it does the sensibilities of other Malaysians, making it more likely for the former to report the crime. He told the Dewan Rakyat that police recorded 1,550 reports on statutory rape in 2012, adding that Malays were victims in 1,243 of the cases. Chinese victims accounted for 73 and Indians 45. The rest were of other racial backgrounds. He added that the proportions were similar in 2013, with 1,147 Malays, 62 Chinese and 32 Indians among the 1,424 victims. “This means most Malays are sensitive to this kind of offence on teenage girls,” he said. “That’s why they lodge police reports. “Non-Malays are probably less sensitive towards this. Probably they can accept it; so there are not much reports from them.” He said the authorities had instituted several measures to prevent statutory rape, including the formation of a special police unit and the provision of counseling. He blamed Internet pornography, peer influence and uncontrolled libido for the high incidence of statutory rape. Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS-Rantau Panjang) asked whether weak enforcement could be one of the contributing factors, noting that there were only 162 convictions from some 3,000 police reports lodged in 2009. Wan Junaidi said parents should play a bigger role than enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of children. “The enforcement agencies have done a lot,” he said, “but the society itself does not help. We often talk about good social values but we seldom put them into practice. “What we do most on a daily basis is to talk politics and point fingers at each other. “Society has to work hand in hand with the government if we want to curb statutory rapes.”
  19. M'sian in a coma in Shenzhen; two others said to have died KUALA LUMPUR - A 66-year-old Malaysian is among more than a dozen people who are in a coma after eating star fruits in Shenzhen province in China. Two patients have died at the Shenzhen General Hospital after eating the fruit. Tang Gon Seang, a retired assistant headmaster of SRJK © Kwang Hwa in Butterworth and his wife Teoh Hui Fong, 58, had gone to visit their engineer son in Shenzhen on Feb 18. On March 29, he passed out and was rushed to the Shenzhen hospital, where has been in a coma since. Mr Tang's brother-in-law Teoh Thian Lye, 55, said that at first doctors at the intensive care unit were baffled by his condition. Then, a specialist at the hospital asked Hui Fong whether her husband had eaten star fruits and she replied he had eaten some which he bought from a wet market there. 'The specialist then told her there were more than 10 people in the hospital, who also fell into a coma after eating the star fruits bought in Shenzhen. Two had even died,' said Thian Lye at MCA Public Complaints and Services Department head Datuk Michael Chong's office on Sunday. The family is seeking Mr Chong's help as they could not afford the huge hospital bill and want to bring Mr Tang back to Malaysia. The hospital bill is RM1,000 (S$431) a day after being reduced from RM5,000 a day. To bring home Mr Tang, they also require a medical report on his condition and the cause of illness to ascertain whether he could be flown back. However, the Shenzhen General Hospital has refused to give the report and only provided a note in Mandarin which stated that Mr Tang had suffered food poisoning after eating star fruits. The note added that Mr Tang suffered renal failure, high blood pressure, lung problems and breathing difficulties. 'The family is in a fix. They hope the hospital can reduce the fees,' said Mr Chong. He said they also wanted to warn other Malaysians in Shenzhen not to eat star fruits while there. Mr Chong said notices had been put up at the Shenzhen General Hospital warning people about eating the fruit. - The Star/ANN. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_229531.html
  20. Kim Jong Un conferred honorary doctorate by Malaysian university North Korea's premier, Kim Jong Un, was conferred an honorary doctorate for Economics by a Malaysian university. The president of the private Malaysian university, HELP, handed over the certificate and costume to the North Korean ambassador at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, reported the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The North Korean news agency also reported the institute's president, Dr. Paul Chan, saying that it was his honour to award the degree to Kim Jon Un. The president, who is also the institution's founder, hopes to develop cooperation between the DPRK and Malaysia in the field of education. According the tertiary institute's website, it was founded in 1986, and "offers a wide and diverse range of programs covering business, law, management, economics, IT, social sciences and the humanities at undergraduate and graduate levels." The founder read economics in the University of Malaya and completed his PhD at the Australian National University (ANU). He was also the Chairman of the Applied Economics Division in the University of Malaya. He was also inducted into the ANU's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements in entrepreneurship. In a statement by Dr. Chan that was reported by the Foreign Policy he says, "To me, the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate to His Excellency President Kim Jong Un is building a bridge to reach the people. "I hope that using this 'soft constructive' approach we can help them and North Asia and the world to be a better place for mankind." "I anticipate that it is a matter of time, within the next 6 years or so, that DPR Korea will engage the world in many constructive ways. "I am just a bit ahead of them in that I feel no one at this moment has the courage to do this though their hearts tell them to do so." "But let's start with offering education opportunities to the people of this country with the support of their President. Why deny them? Why punish them with sanctions? The people are hungry for education to change their lives. Give it to them." Kim Jong Un is also the first foreign head of state to receive the degree by the university. Win leow lor ... from Yahoo : Malaysian police arrest 15 over flash-mob protest Malaysian police on Saturday arrested 15 people over a flash-mob protest held ahead of a planned June 22 opposition rally against alleged fraud in elections last month, but they were later freed. Those detained, who included opposition-aligned activists but also a 10-year-old boy, were held for disrupting public order in a busy shopping area of the capital Kuala Lumpur, media reports and opposition politicians said. "We had warned them to disperse but they refused to do so. They have been detained to facilitate investigations," Zainuddin Ahmad, a local police official in the area, was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper. Malaysia's long-ruling coalition was returned to power in May 5 elections that were the country's closest ever. The opposition insists vote fraud secured the win for the ruling Barisan Nasional (National Front), but Prime Minister Najib Razak has denied the charge. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has organised a string of post-election rallies nationwide demanding election reforms including an overhaul of an Election Commission it considers biased. The next gathering is set for June 22 in Kuala Lumpur, but police have warned they may stop the rally, setting up a potential confrontation. All of the rallies have so far proceeded with no incident. more story, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/malaysian-police-...-184414242.html
  24. Dear all, I had 2 bad encounters with the Malaysia TP while i was in JB yesterday evening for a short makan trip. I will post the stories as detail as possible in hope to receive useful tips on handling such situations that may be useful for other bros out here. Encounter 1 Location: Jalan Keris (Seafood Zichar) Time: approx 7.30pm My friend (as a the driver) and I was going to the zi char along Jln Keris and was looking for a parking lot outside the Shell petrol station. Being rather unfamiliar with the road, we made a wrong turn into a one way street just outside the shell petrol station. There was however, no traffic at that time. Within minutes, a Msia TP came up to us and signaled us to move over to a junction. We then noticed that there was a temporary "tentage" set up by the TP near the junction, supposedly to catch people. Both of us were asked to sit inside the tentage area and together with us, there were 3 other TP in the tentage. TP : Do you know what happened? Us : No Sir. TP : There is a no left turn sign but u all turned left and wait for carpark there. Genuinely not noticing the "no turn left sign", we replied: Us : Sorry sir, we are unfamiliar with the roads there and didnt notice the sign.... TP : Like that is... $300 compounded fine! your passport and driving license? Suay suay my friend didn't bring his driving license along and... TP : Never bring ?! That will be double! $600 fine. Us : Sir... give chance la... we only came here for makan and going back already... TP : Give chance?? how u want to give chance? Us : We wont do this again sir... (pretending to act blur) TP : now u tell me u tell me how u want me to give chance? Us : huh?? TP : there is 3 of us here.... what you want to do? Us : ok sir... i pay fine on the spot la. TP : how much you wanna pay? Us : *thinking a while* sir i only have 50 over ringget la.... 30 can or not ? TP : 30 ?????? 40... 40.... Us : Sir !! need $ for makan la...! TP : hmm... ok ok...... u back into your car and put the money inside your passport and give me. After doing what he said.. he like scribbling something on a messy stack of paper, seems like writing our IC no down. Us : Sir! $ u take already, then u record for what???? TP : No no no... this one is write only... no record no record.... Us : you sure or not ?! wait later i receive summon?! TP : sure sure sure ! you dun believe u get my name and police code and call me. Us : HOW TO CALL YOU ??!! (looking at the 3 of them, all their uniform no name tag or pass or whatsoever) TP : really... no record..... Tired of arguing already and we just sua the whole thing and proceed to makan.. Encounter 2 Shortly after makan, we drove back to the custom and headed home. JUST before the down slope into the malaysia custom area, my friend suay suay drove cross the junction when it was red light. Although there was no cars at all, there were 3 TP bike parked on the road side and the TP were standing there talking. I know sure hong kang liao this time. True enough i turned back and saw one TP ran up to his bike and chiong towards us and signaled us to stop. the time now is about 8:30pm. TP A : red light you know!? fine $300 (he shouted and talked to someone on the walkie talkie) Us : Sorry sorry... we really didnt notice that... Almost immediately, another TP bike chiong up to us. Supposedly the more lao jiao. TP B : sir, passport please this will be $300 fine. Us : sorry sir give chance la... we know you are there, we wont purposely chiong the red light what. We really didnt notice... TP B : Cannot like this say... Passport, driving license. (taking out a summon book) Us : Sir I forget to bring... TP B : Never bring?! ok that will be $600. (pretending to start to write something on the summon book but didnt) Us : sir sir wait wait wait..... give chance la , we pay on the spot. Jus then, another TP bike zoom to the scene. Now there are 3 TP bike and they all on the stupid lights machiam we hide a dead body in the car. trying to intimidate us i guess. TP B : pay on the spot? hmm... how? how? how much u saying? Us : er.. $30 sir... can or not... TP B : $30 ?! ok ill prefer to issue you summon. you go into the custom office with me to pay. (again pretending to write on the summon book but didnt write anything) Us : ok sir ok sir $50 $50, we after makan not much left la. TP B : $50 ? nevermind ah i think i summon you better. I tell you, here got cctv, i ask you one more time how much? Us : Sir! like that how?! TP B : ok $100. Us : what sir ?! we dont have so much la! you go search my whole car if got $100 u take straight. (actually have $) TP B : ok how much u have ? Us : ok ok 60. TP B : 60 Sing dollar? (eyes shimmering) Us : RINGGET LA ! TP B : ok you go back into the car and put $ inside passport. We were very tired already and we just pay and f--k off asap.... Seems that now the TP there have a "protocol" in asking for $. same pattern one. We might had been carrot head for the 2nd encounter but we were thinking to just pay and sua, so as to avoid "going into the custom office to pay the fine". Did any bro here encounter similar incident? Hope to get inputs on ways to counter such situations may it happen again. Btw, do they even have a proper guidelines on the amount of fine for different traffic offence?! Thanks !
