  1. Hi Need advice on the following. Wanted to go to Msia via 2nd link today. Very bad jam from Tuas to Msia checkpoint. Was in jam from. 11-215pm. My young kids were screaming and crying as they were restless and hungry. I made a U turn back to Spore after clearing Msia outgoing immigration without a stamp chop at incoming Msia immigration. There was a U turn sign showing "Singapura." Was that signage for the purposes of making a turn back to Spore? I managed to clear ICA immigration. Any issues since my records at Msia would show that I'm still in Msia but in actual fact I'm in Spore? If there are issues what shd I do?

  3. TAIPEI - A 33-year-old man was arrested in Taiwan on Monday (March 28) for allegedly chopping off the head of a four-year-old girl, reports said. The suspect, who reportedly has a history of mental illness, attacked the young girl at a Taipei suburb on Monday at about 11am, Focus Taiwan said. The attack happened right in front of her mother. Her grieving mother, Mrs Liu, told Apple Daily that she was about one metre away from her daughter, but could not stop the killer. The girl was going upslope on a strider bike when the suspect approached her from behind. She and her mother were on their way to a train station to meet her grandfather and her younger siblings. Thinking that the suspect was trying to help push her daughter up the slope, Mrs Liu did not attempt to stop him. Instead, he pulled out a chopper and brought it down on the little girl's neck, the newspaper said. When she realised what was happening, Mrs Liu tried to hold the killer back, but was not strong enough to stop him. Passers-by then helped to subdue the attacker, but by then, he had decapitated the victim. A blood-stained chopper was found near the crime scene, said Focus Taiwan. "I could not believe it. How can something so cruel happen?" the girl's grandmother sobbed as she told TVBS in Mandarin. The victim, nicknamed "Little Lightbulb", is the second of four children in her family. Her father works in the IT industry, and her mother is a housewife. She has a nine-year-old sister and a younger brother and sister who are two-year-old twins. A photo of the suspect, his face splattered with blood as he was brought in by the police, was published by Taiwanese media. The suspect, surnamed Wang, is said to be unemployed, and has a history of mental illness and drug offences. The case has shocked Taiwanese. In response, President Ma Ying-jeou said: "Today, I heard about the four-year-old girl's "Little Lightbulb's" misfortune. All of us feel shock and pain. The child is so adorable, and the killer so cruel; I have ordered a full investigation. Justice must be served." President-elect Tsai Ing-wen also issued a statement expressing her sorrow, and promising help to the family. The Government has a duty to strengthen public order, to prevent such crimes from happening again, she said. http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/knife-wielding-attacker-chops-off-head-of-4-year-old-girl-in-taipei

  11. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._couple_to.html Posted on 10 Apr 2012 Malaysian mechanics force S'pore couple to pay $925 for minor car repair STOMPer fendi and her husband encountered several mechanics in a workshop in Malaysia who had initially promised them that repairing their broken down car would cost them $103, but later increased the fee to $925. Said the STOMPer: "I'm sharing our bad ordeal which happened on Sunday (Apr 8) at the North-South highway. "Our car broke down at Senawang, Seremban. "At that moment, a red car pulled over and a man in dark blue uniform with an Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) pass and logo told us that he has a workshop and will arrange for towing and promised us that it would cost RM250 (SGD$103), inclusive of towing. "The boss told my hubby that it was probably the gearbox but luckily my hubby is familiar with cars and told him that it was the alternator that was spoilt. "The boss told us that he would need to order the parts and asked us to stay at a hotel and collect it the next day. "But we refused and my hubby kept monitoring the progress. "He asked the boss what the cost would be but the boss said to settle it later. "We reached the workshop at 3pm. "The driver that picked us started drinking hard liquor. "After waiting for the repairs (which took 4 hours) to be done, he showed us the bill and we got shocked -- the total amount was RM2,250 (SGD$925). "We told the boss that it was ridiculous and asked why the cost was different from the amount that was earlier promised. We also told him that it was unlikely that a second-hand alternator would cost that much. "At this point, the men started to get rowdy and raised their voices. "We told him that we didn't have enough money, and he asked us to walk to the pump station to withdraw. "My hubby was thinking of our safety, hence we had no choice but to pay them as it was getting dark and we needed to travel a 4-hour long journey back home. "Even the staff at the pump station knew about that workshop and their dishonest methods.. "Back home, I did a search on Google and found out that many others had also fallen prey to this same workshop. "The workshop had used the same method on all their customers, and some who had innocently left their cars at the workshop overnight had ended up paying RM9000 (SGD$3,698) even after a police report was made. "Be cautious. "Why can't the police do anything about this?"

  13. Stupidity at play here. Entire navy career just washed down the drain here... [speechless] From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1176533/1/.html Former navy officer threatens to chop girlfriend and family By Alvina Soh | Posted: 13 January 2012 1404 hrs SINGAPORE: It started off as an argument over the phone after a former navy officer became upset with his girlfriend's supposed infidelity. The argument quickly escalated with 20-year-old Kuhaannath Pillai threatening to chop his 18-year-old girlfriend and her family. The incident took place on July 20 last year when Pillai left his Pasir Ris home with a chopper tucked in his shorts and travelled to the girl's place at Bukit Batok West Avenue 6. Pillai pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of criminal intimidation and another of being armed with an offensive weapon. He is currently suspended from his job as a regular in the Singapore Navy. The court heard that the threat was not carried out after Pillai discarded the chopper before reaching the girl's flat. In mitigation, his lawyer Mr N Kanagavijayan, said Pillai had a change of heart en-route to his girlfriend's place. He said Pillai "came to his senses and regretted bringing the chopper", adding he went to the girl's unit completely unarmed. The court also heard that Pillai and the girl were married on January 12 and she is now pregnant with his child. Pillai will be sentenced on February 10. - CNA/fa

  16. SMC LAWYER TELLS COURT: Surgeon inflated $400 bill to $211,000 By Selina Lum A SPECIALIST who treated surgeon Susan Lim's patient sent a bill for $400. She marked it up to $211,000 when she billed the Brunei High Commission here. Another doctor charged $500, but Dr Lim bumped that up to $93,500. Yet another bill for $3,000 was raised to $285,100. These and several other revelations of how Dr Lim charged her patient - a woman member of Brunei's royal family - for treatment by other doctors were made in the High Court yesterday by Senior Counsel Alvin Yeo. Representing the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), he cited the allegedly inflated bills to show there was a case for a disciplinary committee to launch an inquiry against the doctor. Dr Lim is fighting the SMC's decision to appoint a second disciplinary committee to investigate an accusation by the Health Ministry here that she overcharged her Brunei patient, Pengiran Anak Hajah Damit. The patient, the younger sister of Brunei's Queen and a cousin of the Sultan, had breast cancer and died in August 2007. Dr Lim treated the woman from 2001 until she died. Dr Lim's lawyer, Senior Counsel Lee Eng Beng, told the court yesterday that she had informed the patient early on in their relationship that the close care and attention she needed would cost $100,000 to $200,000 a day. He said the patient had insisted on having Dr Lim as her doctor and, referring to the royal household, had assured Dr Lim she should not worry about the charges, saying: 'Istana is paying.' The Bruneians paid all her bills up to March 2007. But after the patient died, Dr Lim was queried on the rest of the 2007 bill, which came up to $24.8 million. After Dr Lim gave various discounts, the bill was eventually brought down to $3.25 million. Yesterday, the court heard for the first time the list of specific charges on the bills. Mr Yeo said that third-party specialists who treated the patient would send their bills to Dr Lim. She would then mark up the bills when she sent her invoices to the Brunei High Commission. Mr Yeo argued that the way the invoices were presented suggested those were the fees being charged by the other doctors or were intended for them. He stressed he was not asking the High Court to conclude that Dr Lim was overcharging, but that a disciplinary committee should look into the matter. Mr Yeo also said Dr Lim had charged the patient for cancelling two conferences, on top of treatment fees. One bill was for $78,000, while the other was for $180,000. She also charged between $35,000 and $45,000 a day when her employees accompanied the patient for radiotherapy sessions at the hospital. When the patient was in intensive care for five days in May 2007, attended to by hospital doctors and nurses, Dr Lim charged $450,000 for the first day and $250,000 for the other four days for 'monitoring services'. In July 2007, the Brunei High Commission alerted Brunei's Ministry of Health (MOHB), expressing concern over the 'very high bills' from Dr Lim. That month, two MOHB representatives came to Singapore and spoke to Dr Lim Cheok Peng, chief executive of Parkway Holdings, which runs the medical centres where Dr Lim has her clinics. She then started to reduce her fees. On Aug 1, 2007, she wrote to MOHB to disregard the bills that were for services provided by the other doctors, and gave a 25 per cent discount on her own bills. On Aug 18, 2007, she wrote to MOHB apologising for the 'inadvertent mistakes' made by her office. But on Aug 27, 2007, MOHB asked Singapore's Health Ministry to intervene, saying the charges were unacceptable. On Nov 12, 2007, Dr Lim wrote to MOHB, offering to waive her fees from Jan 15 to June 14, 2007, as a goodwill gesture and suggesting that it pay only $3.25 million. In January 2009, Dr Lim and her husband went to Brunei and offered to waive all her fees and third-party bills if MOHB was prepared to issue a 'letter of good standing'. The letter was to essentially state that the Brunei government would not pursue the matter any further and take no issue with her bills. Her request was not taken up. Dr Lim now claims she had a 'fee agreement' with her patient, but yesterday, pointing to her 'tactics', Mr Yeo said these were not the actions of someone who had an agreement. He argued that her move to stop the SMC from setting up a disciplinary committee was an abuse of process. The hearing continues on Monday.
  17. SINGAPORE'S players have reacted with shock and disbelief to Football Association of Singapore (FAS) president Zainudin Nordin's announcement that the national team will be disbanded following disappointing performances last year. Mr Zainudin, who is also the mayor of Central Singapore District, told Berita Harian in an interview that all Lions players will be dropped and fresh, young talent blooded. Calling it the 'the best thing to do for the good of the future of Singapore football', he added that probably only four players from the current set-up may return in the future. 2010 has been a forgettable year for the Lions: they failed to qualify for the final round of the Asian Cup in February and were knocked out at the group stage in last month's Suzuki Cup - the premier South-east Asian football competition - for the first time since 2002. Losses aside, the national team has also been hit by revelations of a smoking culture, curfew breaking and ill-discipline among some players. To add to their woes, Singapore's Fifa world rankings fell last year by 20 places to 140th - their lowest ranking ever. Finally wield the axe. Too many prima-donnas in the team who think by going onto the filed can easily win 2-0, 3-0. But there is still hope for some players who have put almost consistent performances evrytime they played like Mustafic. Hope can emulate what Malaysian team did "Semangat"

  19. Top Stories Home > Prime News > Story Jan 9, 2010 Bukit Panjang park body that of Singaporean The body of Ms Liu Shu Hui, 25, was found on Dec 29. Her boyfriend, a 26-year-old Nigerian, has been arrested in connection with the crime. -- SHIN MIN FILE PHOTO THE badly decomposed body found in a park in Bukit Panjang on Dec 29 has been identified as that of a 25-year-old Singaporean, Ms Liu Shu Hui. In a press release issued yesterday, the police said that her identity was established on Tuesday through forensic DNA matching. The woman is believed to have been murdered, and her boyfriend, a 26-year-old Nigerian national, has been arrested in connection with the crime. The suspect, who arrived in Singapore in late 2007, had overstayed here since February 2008, when his S pass expired. He was arrested at a flat in Boon Lay Drive on Thursday night. His occupation and how the couple met are not known. Ms Liu's body, clad only in underwear, was found near Block 201, Petir Road - close to where she lived - by a town council supervisor. A black wristband and a black Adidas watch were also found on the body. A pair of Birkenstock sandals was also found lying nearby. The body was highly decomposed and carried no identification documents. Forensic tests were conducted on the woman's blood, bone marrow and other parts to establish her identity. The Straits Times understands that the body had been lying in the park for at least five days before it was found. SUJIN THOMAS
