  1. If I was the taliban I would get all my young men to join the army for the last 5 years. Imagine 300,000 men getting a salary for the last 5 years and know all the army secrets. Then now just stand there and let their taliban brothers walk in and take all the big cities!

The Taiwanese government just unveiled the new uniform for its Special Forces and it features a bulletproof armour and a face mask that could possibly become this year’s most horrifying Halloween costume. According to Drama Fever, the armour is supposed to protect the soldier from close range shots. The site also jokingly said that the soldiers marching in their new uniforms resemble an army of Star Wars’ Stormtroopers. link: http://yahoosg.tumblr.com/post/65416433105/taiwan-unveils-scary-special-forces-uniform-photo
  5. Duh! Want gahmen give him free car ah COE domination by high-end marque buyers an unhealthy trend Published on Dec 7, 2011 http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_742009.html Share 0 inShare</span></span> Purchase this article for republication Buy SPH photos LAST Saturday's report ('High-end cars winning market race') puts a different twist to acquiring a certificate of entitlement (COE) which, thus far, has been viewed as a commodity. The fact that the premium car brands are getting the lion's share of the COEs available, to the detriment of the mass-market car brands, indicates that the financially well-off in Singapore are the winners. By extension, most Singapore motorists who own or aspire to own a car are average income-earners and, at most, can afford only a lower-end brand. It is highly likely that those who own the premium car brands may already have one or more cars, an advantage that an average Singaporean does not have. The slowdown in the number of cars scrapped further suggests the possibility that the average motorist needs the car for a number of valid reasons, even though he must pay a progressively higher road tax for the privilege. Seen in this light, the COE may turn into an issue that will add to unnecessary unease among heartlanders. One can even imagine blogs and other social media spinning the cynical view - that the building of more expressways and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries will serve to ease congestion for the Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis to zip along quicker. In a way, the spike in the number of COEs available between 2004 and 2008 was an acknowledgement of the pent-up desire among average income-earners to own a car. Their inability to do so may be a source of potential discontent. It is clear that the authorities must lower the annual allowable vehicle population growth rate, wielding the COE as the tool of control. The solution is perhaps to create clear quotas for each category, to enable bidders to see that there is some equity in the system. In the current pool system, the taxi companies (as they have a profit-oriented objective and deeper pockets) and the financially well-off will continue to dominate in the bidding for COEs. First, we should re-categorise COEs into commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Next, there should be a quota for each category and sub-category by engine capacity. Should there be unallocated COEs after the bidding, the authorities can then channel them into the other categories. The system will then be seen to be fairer as the average income-earner can have a fighting chance to achieve his aspirations. Johnnie Chia
  6. URA rejects sole bid for Paya Lebar site 04:47 AM Nov 05, 2011 SINGAPORE - The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has rejected the only bid submitted by the subsidiaries of UOL Group and Singapore Land for a commercial site at Sims Avenue / Tanjong Katong Road because the price is too low. UOL Venture Investments and SL Development had submitted a joint bid of S$529.3 million, or about S$566 psf per plot ratio, for the 99-year leasehold site. "We are very disappointed that the tender has not been awarded. We were looking forward to a constructive role in the Government's long-term plan to decentralise commercial activities outside of CBD which will help ease business costs, reduce undue congestion and revitalise urban nodes," the consortium said in a joint statement. "The rejection is a setback to that decentralisation plan." It said the bid had been a fair one considering "the site's technical challenges and resultant impact on layout, as well as the recent global economic turbulences and enhanced market risks". "The rejection came as a surprise to us

  15. From http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../373403/1/.html --- Singapore Armed Forces to introduce new combat uniform in 2009 By Lynda Hong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 03 September 2008 0238 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SAF new combat uniform SINGAPORE: Singapore's men in green will be seeing a new combat uniform from next year. Some 300,000 servicemen will eventually be wearing the new SAF combat uniform with high-tech pixelised patterns on it. The patterns replace the large green patches on the old outfit. The new material maintains the camouflage effect even when viewed through night vision devices. It is also designed to be used in war zones that extend beyond the jungle. Colonel Tan Chor Kiat, Chief of Staff, HQ 9 Division, Infantry, Singapore Armed Forces, said: "When you talk about urban terrain, you are really looking at a very unique characteristic where the opposing forces can co-exist within the same urban terrain in a very volatile system. "Consequently, the soldiers are going to get shot at a lot more often, and at a much shorter distance." According to the SAF, the new uniform increases detection time by 30 to 50 percent in the urban environment, making it harder for enemies to find their targets. It is also made from better quality fabric, which helps dissipate sweat and heat away from the body quicker, and comes with ergonomic features such as extra padding and pockets. It will be introduced to all servicemen over a three-year period starting from 2009. The first to receive the new uniforms will be recruits from the January Basic Military Training intake, as well as active personnel and NSmen in their sixth and seventh In-Camp Training years, while the rest will get theirs in 2010 and 2011. NSmen currently in their seventh to ninth years, however, will not receive the new uniform. SAF said this phased approach takes into consideration the wear and tear of servicemen's existing uniforms. - CNA/de --- Heng my unit completed 7th year liao. For me, I left one more before ROD! 17. Dark Forces [thumbsup] With its 469bhp supercharged V8, the Mercedes E55 AMG has the potential to make the Audi RS6 and BMW M5 feel weedy. But can you have too much of a good thing? February 2003 E55 v RS6 v M5 It's fascinating to watch the speedometer needle of the E55 AMG. Not because it's spookily spindle-less but because it sweeps around the dial at such an incredible rate. Even into three figures the pace of the magically suspended orange needle is astonishing. If we had filmed it and you could watch it, you'd reckon the footage had been speeded up like a car chase in a bad film, but hammering along Millbrook's mile straight with an insistent, immense accelerative force at our backs, it looks very real to Jethro and me. The needle is still going strong as it swings for the last marking on the dial, 160mph, when the acceleration abruptly but smoothly tails off - we've hit the 155mph speed limiter, and there's still a chunk of the straight to go. Jethro utters a raw expletive. How fast would the E55 go if there was no limiter and the straight was two miles long? One eighty? Easily. 200? Possibly. A derestricted SL55 with essentially the same 5.4-litre supercharged V8 made monkeys of a bunch of supercars at a Nardo test organised by Auto Motor und Sport magazine, topping out at 202mph and proving the most accelerative up to 170. A couple of months ago we attached our own VBOX timing gear to an SL55: 0-60 in 4.6sec and 0-150 in 24.0. Quick, huh? Yeah, but the more sober-looking E55 gets to 150mph in just 22.8sec... [insert your own expletive here]. In at least one respect, the E55 redefines the term 'performance saloon'. In this class there isn't a quicker or more powerful four-door; with 469bhp the Merc has 25bhp in hand over its most potent rival, the Audi RS6, and almost 70bhp over the iconic BMW M5. In the time the Mercedes takes to get to 150mph, the Audi and BMW have just passed 130mph. And in terms of torque the E55 is even more impressive, its supercharged V8 generating an incredible 516lb ft, over 100lb ft more than the twin-turbo RS6 and no less than 147lb ft (almost 40 per cent) more than the normally aspirated M5. If this was a game of Top Trumps, you'd feel pretty confident with the E55 AMG in your hand. However, whether you'd feel so invincible with its steering wheel in your palms and a challenging road unfurling before you is more what evo is about. Having the power is one thing, making it effective, exploitable and enjoyable is quite another. 'Power is nothing without control', as Pirelli says. Power has its price, too; at
