  3. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/halogen-light-bulbs-to-be-phased-out-all-lamps-sold-to-be-as-10866584 SINGAPORE: In an effort to spur consumers to switch to energy efficient bulbs, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is raising what is known as the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of light bulbs, which will effectively phase out halogen lamps. The agency is aiming for all light bulbs in Singapore to be, minimally, as energy efficient as LED bulbs from 2023 onwards, it said in a media release on Friday (Oct 26). Under the current MEPS regulations, halogen or incandescent bulbs, which account for about 5 per cent of all regulated lamps sold in Singapore, must attain a one-tick rating, and LED bulbs must attain a two-tick rating. From Nov 1, 2019, all bulbs, incandescent or LED, must attain a two-tick rating on their Energy Label when brought into Singapore for sale. Anyone who flouts the MEPS regulations when they come into force will be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$10,000. The NEA will also introduce two enhancements to the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) - more than 80 per cent of lamps sold in Singapore will be covered, and displaying of energy labels in all publicity materials, physical or digital, is now mandatory. These will take effect on Nov 1, 2019. “It is important for consumers to be able to differentiate energy-saving products, such as LED lamps, from less energy efficient products," said Mr William Song, the sales marketing head at LEDVANCE, a lighting supplier. "This allows them to make informed choices and benefit from the greater durability, light quality and lower energy consumption of LED lamps, which results in cost savings for families in the long run.

  6. A monthly average of 28 vehicle owners have been fined since 2010 for headlamp non-compliance. This number includes the unauthorised installation of High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew revealed this in a written reply to Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Zainal Sapari. Citing records from the Traffic Police, Mr Lui added there have been no accidents caused by drivers dazzled by light from other vehicles since 2005. HID headlamps can improve the visibility of drivers compared with standard halogen lamps. Since January 1, 2010, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) made it compulsory for all newly-registered vehicles with HID headlamps to be equipped with an auto-levelling feature. LTA said the feature helps reduce glare to drivers of oncoming vehicles without compromising the improved visibility the headlamps offer to drivers. Mr Lui said LTA enforcement officers look out for vehicles fitted with very bright headlamps that do not comply with its requirements. Owners of non-complying vehicles face a maximum penalty of S$1,000 fine and three months' jail. For subsequent offenders, they face up to S$2,000 fine and six months' jail. 13. Hi Bros, Noticed this topic on headlamp hasn't been discussed much in this forum. Does anyone has recommendation for headlamp bulbs that are slightly whiter (but still LTA-compliant) and yet last comparably as long as standard halogen bulbs (i.e. about 2 years)? Thanks!
  14. As mentioned above, I got this one-page letter from LTA with regards to my aftermarket HID headlamp. The contents of the letter stated that they have received feedback that my headlamp is showing an extra bright light and causes glare and distraction to other road users. It also discusses about the compliance with international standards, such as those adopted in European Union countries. Last but not least, they want me to check my headlamp bulbs and warn me that their enforcement officers and Traffic Police will be closely monitoring vehicles such as myself on the road. What should I do now? Anyone who has encountered similar experiences before can advise? Thanks in advance and best regards,
  15. Hi all, Lately, the headlamp starts to flicker when air-con kick-in and at stationery. Car is slightly over a year so is it a tell tale sign of battery failure? 18. Is anyone familiar with the internal workings/ circuit layout for the headlamp. I am just curious here. Given that both headlamps are 2x setups i.e. one lowbeam and one highbeam, assuming when you flick the high beam, the low beam still stays on right? So in that case, the sudden surge of voltage, will it cause the circuitry to decrease in lifespan significantly if say one has a propensity to flick his headlamp furiously frequently? Thanks
