Recently changed car.. during the process of redeeming my loan with OCBC, found out that they imposed this “1 month interest in lieu of notice” - as they claimed that I did not give sufficient notice. however, my dealer showed my proof that they have actually informed OCBC 1 month in advance that the loan will be redeemed in full. checked with OCBC again, they mentioned that “charging this interest in lieu of notice” is a common industry practice - as notice given by dealers are not considered sufficient as it has to come from the owner directly and generally, owners don’t give notice as dealers do it for them. find this explanation absurd, especially considering that I have authorised the dealer to act on my behalf, and considering they disclosed my info to the dealer.. also found it quite unethical, that they put in contractual clause that can give notice but says that most notices are not sufficient anyone encountered such issues?
