Reckless Cyclist

I had a near miss incident with a bicyclist recently that it is still haunting when I am crossing a red light today.

The incident happened on a Saturday at around 6+ pm when the sun was setting. I was heading from the Bishan Park to the Junction 8 and needed to cross a red light junction along Bishan road. At about 10m before I reached the junction, the traffic light changed to red in favour of the pedestrians. All vehicles had stopped and a lady had started crossing. I picked up my pace and started to cross the road. I could clearly see the 'green man' was still not flashing. Suddenly, a bicyclist zoomed pass in front of me at very high speed. He just managed to swerve pass me at the last second to avoid hitting me. I was so close to being knocked down that I stood rooted to the ground for some time. From driving experience, his speed should be around 40km/h. The bicyclist did not even looked back or signal his hand of apology.

I am writing this so that you, your loved ones, children could be watchful when you are crossing red light junction, even when the light is in your favour!

Thanks for the warning. Maybe next time all of us should wear portable cameras like Go-Pro when we are walking on the streets! Technology should make such cameras cheaper and cheaper over time.

Such cyclists should be reported to the Police.

such a big group - should deploy "marshals" to stop and direct traffic at junctions, turn-offs etc. Not just use hand to signal.

A few days ago, just saw a few cyclists occupy whole lane on a 1 lane road. 2 or 3 abreast. reason - they were chatting.

anyway, the debate will never end lah. until a whole group gets mowed down by a drunk dump truck driver

2 abreast still legal. TP can't do anything. If 3 abreast then they are wrong.

Btw I saw a TP chase after a cyclist who ran the red light near dyson road today.

chee by*, this is the sort that is the final nail for these cheespie cyclists who have absolutely ZERO regards for the law. Really hope they will meet with cement mixer soon enough. [furious]

Pedestrians/motorist have no recourse against errant cyclists. Surely this is wrong for a 1st World City ?!

This is precisely why bicycles must be registered.

No accountability, no nothing to track the person down.

Which first world city requires their cyclists to be registered?
