Can do a poll on how many drivers here are actual cyclist?

I was a regular cyclist long long time ago. Nowadays, only cycle when I feel like it. Have two bikes at home, a full suspension MTB and a foldie (brand new in box since 5 years ago). [laugh]

While most cyclists are fine and know that they are the lowest denominator on the roads.

I've had two incidents before whereby i think someone with real rage control issues will have mowed the f**kers down.

If my children ever want to cycle on the road. I will throw away their bicycle and take away their allowance.

[laugh]

There's something called a PCN where u can ride safely and at lower speeds.

If u need to ride fast and long distance, u just accept the risk that one day u maybe mowed down by a drunk/angry driver or dump truck who will crush you like a tin can and may not even notice he ran over you.

If you survive, fine and good, maybe u will be missing a leg.

Risk taking behaviour cannot be explained away.

Road traffic accidents other than natural causes are the most likely cause of severe injuries or death in any major civilised/urban society (maybe excepting america with it's 5 digit gun deaths per year).

Disproportionately, they belong to motorcyclists in local context. And if u want to add to this at-risk group ELECTIVELY, then good luck to you.

most of the comments f the cyclist ... [laugh]

and give benefit of doubt to the lorry driver that he was shocked by the cyclist broken his wing mirror

and then hand swerve to left and subsequently knock the cyclist

.

.

without this video ... 90% chances the lorry driver will be blamed left/right/center

.

.

this could turn the other way round where the lorry driver shocked and swerve to the right and cause multiple collisions

then the cyclist could be laughing and cycle away

That's how I see it. The cyclist is committing mischief, much like throwing stones at cars, with malicious intend to cause an traffic accident.

Long trail runs you are in control of your body; even in orgaised triathlons, here again the biking is controlled by the Organisers so its kind of smooth to chiong all the way as no stop/go situation, most to most slow down near the corners; Trail runs in MacRitchie or even Bt. Timah no 2 steps are ever the same so gotta be really vigilant

Just sharing my 2cents....but I really do agree that bikers have NO right to ride abreast of each others, unless in just overtaking situations

I think it's just an ego thing.

We don't hear of women doing such funny stuff. Granted there's lower female participation.

From my frequent observations of the cycling groups near my home, it's maybe a 10 -15: 1 ratio of males: females.

You need to read the law.  2 abreast is legal on this road.

(4)  The rider of a bicycle, power-assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle on a road with 2 or more lanes for the use of vehicles travelling in the same direction may ride the bicycle, power‑assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle (as the case may be) in one lane such that it remains abreast and to the right of another rider of a bicycle, power‑assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle in that same lane and direction.

Bicycle, etc., to be ridden on left side of road 8.  A person who rides a bicycle, power-assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle on a road must ride the bicycle, power-assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle as near as practicable to the far left edge of the road.

did the cyclist run foul of rule 8?

With such a congested road, naturally everyone need to repect other users inorder to coexist. The mentally of this cyclist is that he has all the rights is something he needs to.erase completely from his small little brain.

Like one bros says, when he overtakes a cyclist, he tap is horn, that is a warning nothing to be offensive about. In fact you should appreciate that warning.

Rule 4 allows 2 abreast.

Can always write to LTA for clarification.

To be fair to cyclists, they now have limited choices to cycle faster on the PCNs and pavements, due to the speed limits because of the proliferation of those stupid damn PMDs. PMDs being a nuisance to other pedestrians and causing accidents, also drag cyclists down to all these mobility act rulings. The authorities should ban those PMD nuisances totally and clear up the mobility act issues as in give cyclists more flexibility to use the PCNs and pavements.

Before those PMDs come in, I hardly have issues with cyclists riding on pavements and PCNs. Most will slow down when approaching people and being foot peddled, they don't accelerate and speed fast. And this has been happening for decades even before PMDs.

I agree that PMDs have a rather nebulous role in our country.

I'm actually OK with PMDs on residential roads (those with a limit of 40 and below) as that's where they're most useful - for small shopping errands etc. I think banning them from all roads is simply not practical - as evidenced by the large number of PMD users flouting the law now. But on any other type of road, they should be on the footpaths.

I'm not personally that familiar with how the PMDs have compromised the cycling pathways on the PCNs - but if it's as you say, they should be banned from the PCN as well. PMDs are neither about exercise nor about long term travelling, and they have no place taking up space on the PCNs.

Even if allowed doesn't mean should do it to block and irritate drivers behind this case. What a pity that idiot not spending Christmas in hospital.

Like road hoggers.

Aren't you the one who said you don't want us to become like China (with the implication of over-regulation) when I suggested bringing back visible registration for bikes?

Isn't your notion of writing to LTA to clarify every little thing also supporting over-regulation?

Isn't simple common sense on the roads better? Like not insisting on blocking the lane in crowded traffic by going single file? Or do you want us to become "like China" when it suits you, and appeal to authority every time?

Do cyclists really cause a pile up? Or is it just traffic in general? My average speed on my car's dashboard states that it is 30km/h. The routes I drive I don't usually encounter any cyclists. My strava data also shows that my cycling route's average speed is 30km/h. So I don't think its the cyclists causing a pile up. How long does it take to overtake a cyclist? 5s to 10s?

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. If you look at the video of this particular dickhead of a cyclist, it's clear he was intentionally blocking the lorry's path just because he felt entitled to the lane. So in this case at least, there was definitely a slowing down of an already slower motor vehicle and traffic piling up behind.

I am not against cyclists using the roads considerately - that means not just insisting on legal rights, but also looking at the volume of other traffic, and choosing the right time and place for elective journeys (not related to commuting) so as not to inconvenience others unduly.

It's the black sheep like this prick who give your community a bad name.

Actually no need...

1) Just need to get registered, so they can get tracked easily(like every other road user)

2) Buy insurance like every other road user, since they are clearly capable of damaging other people property. like by smashing bike on bonnet la or breaking people side mirror.

Agreed. Demanding that cyclists pay is just being punitive, and may be self-defeating.

Just make them non-anonymous on the roads and also ensure they have something to compensate others with if they cause injury or damage (third party insurance).
