  1. Singapore ranked 27th Worst in the latest Press Freedom listings... They were narrowly beaten to 26th spot by Libya where 7 Journalists were murdered and 37 kidnapped. This is the highest position that Singapore has ever achieved in the "Worst Press Freedom" listings....
  2. LINK Explain when train's emergency button can be used ON TUESDAY night, I was taking the south-bound MRT train towards Ang Mo Kio. At Yio Chu Kang station, a woman asked for help in a desperate tone, then pressed the emergency button on the train. I realised that an elderly man had his arm caught between the train doors. The doors did not re-open after the usual few seconds, and his arm was stuck for about a minute. When the doors did open, the old man entered the train and was unharmed. However, an SMRT staff member came and demanded to know who had pressed the button. When the woman owned up, he asked in frustration: "Why you press the button?" Later, when the train stopped at Ang Mo Kio station, the woman was detained and further questioned. Thankfully, another man stood up for her. When is the right time to press the emergency button? If someone gets caught between the train doors, are we supposed to wait until the train starts moving before we press the button? Perhaps SMRT can clarify the protocol for using the emergency button.
  3. I don't know whether you guys notice it or not. The LTA press release they may have forgot to include a number in the factsheet. The average annual milleage for a 2 shift taxi should be more than 1 shift taxi right. So why is it 13,65 km for 2 shift vs 9,129 km for 1 shift taxi? Or is it my eyes acting up? http://app.lta.gov.sg/corp_press_content.a...0zg489zmggadp4u

  9. The reaction prior to Sunday's Chinese grand prix was already not positive, so Michael Schumacher is advised to avoid the media in the wake of the Shanghai race. After finishing a minute behind Nico Rosberg at the chequered flag, and seven tenths off his teammate's pace in qualifying, the specialist Auto Motor und Sport said China was probably "the worst weekend in the record winner's whole career". The German magazine gave 41-year-old Schumacher just 3 out of 10 for his performance at the wheel of the grey Mercedes. One of his former Ferrari teammates, who did not want to be named, told the Independent: "After the beating he got on Sunday, in conditions in which the old Michael Schumacher excelled, I don't think he'll ever come back to his old level." The Cologne publication Express published a photo-shopped image of a snail with the seven time world champion's head and cap, while France's Auto Hebdo observed that in China "the former rain king seemed lost". Bild newspaper's headline read: "Rain God? Schumi got flooded!", while Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport asked of Schumacher's return: "Why did he do it?" The sports newspaper Tuttosport said Schumacher "is only a shadow of himself", while another sports daily Corriere dello Sport called him "an old lion attacked by a group of young and hungry animals". The broadsheet La Stampa said: "F1 without overtaking? Just ask Schumacher, who was passed constantly", while the major La Repubblica said the German "is no longer in the league of the best formula one drivers". Hamburg's Abendblatt called Schumacher a "learner driver", while the Frankfurter Rundschau blasted his "horrible performance" and Austria's Kleine Zeitung said he had been "humiliated" in China. Britain's The Guardian recalled the moment in the post-race press conference when Lewis Hamilton was asked how it had felt to race wheel-to-wheel with his childhood hero. Jenson Button leaned over and demanded Hamilton "tell the truth" before the pair both laughed, and the Guardian said the exchange "may have been the unkindest cut of all" for Schumacher. "The way things look, it would be no surprise to see him bowing out with as much dignity as he can salvage before the formula one season is very much older," added the newspaper.

  11. I believe everyone had suffered from headache, stomachache, leg, hand pains and such. Other than massaging the painful area, I understand there are acupuncture points that when pressed, will provide almost immediate temporary relief. Anyone here can point out the locations (pics if possible) of these acupuncture points? Would be great if the names of those points can be provided as well... can use them as keywords in Google for further learning. Please contribute: Headache - press where? Stomachache - Lower backache - Neck ache - Calf pain/strain - Forearm pain/strain - Upper thighs pain/strain - Shoulders pain - Appendix pain (when jogging) - Chest muscle pain (after gym) - Others? Thanks!!
  12. With the exception of an actual signature on the dotted line, Michael Schumacher has reportedly agreed to return to F1 with Mercedes in 2010. The news magazine Focus as well as the major German daily Bild revealed on Saturday that the 40-year-old, who retired as a Ferrari race driver in 2006, will be Nico Rosberg's teammate. Bild said a one-year deal has been agreed verbally, and talks about withdrawing from his new consulting contract with Ferrari have been positive. Focus, whose report was made available ahead of publication on Monday, said whether Schumacher actually signs the contract also depends on the go-ahead of doctors. A source told Bild: "The signature is just a formality. Schumacher feels fit and healthy. The latest (medical) tests were entirely positive. "He can't wait for the return and working with Ross Brawn again." An announcement could be made as early as next week, and Focus said the deal is for 3.5m euros -- about a tenth of Schumacher's retainer when he hung up his helmet with Ferrari. A longer-term objective is for the German to be an ambassador for the Mercedes brand, the magazine added. The seven time world champion's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm told DPA news agency she did not want to comment, and his manager Willi Weber told SID that he was "as in the dark as the press". "I don't know anything about it," Weber added. "I have not spoken with Mercedes, nor do I have any meetings with them."
  13. Soccer star Ronaldo socked by scandal involving transvestite prostitutes By HAROLD EMERT in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and CORKY SIEMASZKO in New York DAILY NEWS WRITERS Thursday, May 1st 2008, 1:27 AM Ronaldo, one of the world's best soccer players, is up to his knee socks in scandal today after his run-in with a pair of transvestite prostitutes wound up on YouTube. The Brazilian superstar told cops he had no idea the "ladies" he picked up were men until he brought them to a hot sheets hotel early Monday. Footage of Ronaldo recoiling from them was taken by the spurned hookers, one of whom is under investigation for trying to extort $30,000 from the superstar, Brazilian media reported. Andre Albertini, who goes by Andrea, denied he tried to blackmail Ronaldo and insisted the soccer star tried to buy his silence. "Ronaldo begged me not to ruin his career and asked me if 50,000 reais would shut my mouth," Albertini said. The other hooker, Junior Ribeiro da Silva, aka Carla Tamini, added, "when we entered his car he asked if we knew who he was. "I said yes, but didn't make a fuss because I have gone out with handsomer men," he told a Brazilian newspaper. "At the motel he was polite and very gentle - treating a woman like a princess." Brazil's most famous transvestite, Rogeria, scoffed at Ronaldo's claim that he didn't know what he was buying. "Ronaldo needs a pair of glasses," Rogeria said. "It

  15. EU legislators press Singapore on freedoms 02 October 2007, 14:02 CET (SINGAPORE) - Singapore should allow greater political freedom and ease its banking secrecy laws, European legislators said Tuesday, while praising the city-state for its otherwise open economy. Seven members of the European Parliament were visiting the city-state to probe prospects for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Europe and the 10-member ASEAN, of which Singapore is the current chair. The 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union agreed in May to launch free trade talks. Ignasi Guardans Cambo, a Spanish member of the European Parliament, said his delegation raised the issue of greater political freedom during a meeting with their Singaporean counterparts on Tuesday. He said Singapore is "the most open economy in this area... (but) it still has some room to improve in other areas which are more political." One area is freedom of expression, he told the Foreign Correspondents' Association. Cambo was among a group of European legislators barred by Singapore authorities from speaking at a forum in April to discuss the development of democracy in Asia and Europe. Singapore's foreign ministry explained the move by saying political issues have to be decided by Singaporeans and not foreigners. "Obviously, that was not the intention. At least nobody from the European Parliament has any intention to interfere with the internal politics of Singapore," Cambo said. Singapore says its tough laws against dissent and other political activity are necessary to ensure the stability which has helped the country achieve economic success. Glyn Ford, a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, said the EU will also seek improvements in Singapore's banking secrecy laws. http://www.eubusiness.com/news_live/1191326522.11
