  1. Recently I noticed that after I fill up petrol and start my vehicle up, the idle RPM tends to go up to around 900. Usually it's closer to 600-700. Is this cause for worry, or normal? I drive off and after a few minutes, idle RPM goes back to the usual when I'm at a stop.
  2. I advise those singaporean who pump petrol in JB to be alert, don't leave your family in the car is very dangerous, as the robber will rob your car together with your family member as they don't have a chance to escape. For me the robber use a knite and asked for money only. No want will help u as it is their culture as they worried they might be kill. They rob me in board day light when the petrol station is quite crowed. So be cautious .
  3. NEA investigating sewer pumping incident in Yishun NEA seems to be very busy lately, from the ceiling cleaning to trade fair to haze and now gutter oil. Another article also appeared in 154th today, polis also looked bad, culprits run away. If no wrong done, wonder why they run away. Illegal immigrant? No work permit? or really guilty of pumping the sewage oil out?
  4. not been to JB for sometime n so drop by KLS city to chk out the new shopping. later went to Taman Hua Yuan for my dinner. swing over at 1145pm to e shell station n saw many sg cars still pumping ron 95. with no pump attendance n the cashier locked himself up at this hour no wonder so many hiong n break the rule. now I know why still many of my friends go JB for their weekly trips at this hr.
  5. I also dun mind doing pump air every alternate week since I have been doing that for the past many years. But nitrogen is something new when ppl rave about the advantage
  6. Ferrari engine suddenly catch fire while pumping petrol. Happened at Havelock Rd SPC station at 8.20pm last night. The petrol station was closed for 3 hours. http://news.omy.sg/News/Local%2BNews/Story...445-335831.html
  7. Is it something that I'm not aware of? Has the ban been lifted for foreign registered vehicle (Spore/Msia driver) to pump Ron95 in Msia? Cos I saw so many S plate cars pumping 95 at 2nd link rest area before headed back in to SG.
  8. Anyone have any problem pumping RON 97 for their SSS?
  9. Recently, my dad went to change tyres and ended up having them pumped with nitrogen. He says that you're not suppose to mix normal air with nitrogen and that the tyres can only be topped up with nitrogen. Sounds suspicious to me. Is there any advantage in pumping nitrogen or is it just a gimmick?
  10. Hi guys.. I recently changed my first set of tyres and my pref is 245 front and 235 behind. i went SPC to check pressure and was slight below 200. SPC the nozzle is those type have to exert pressure to connect hose nozzle to tyre value. then very strange, once it hits 210, a lot of pressure automatically force the nozzle away from the tyre value. I try again and cannot. all 4 tyres same. I use a lot of strength to connect but the air hose keep pushing and flying away after 210. i scared. stop. no ting ting ting sound... just keep pushing away. then i went caltex, and the hose nozzle is clip type. means you clip the nozzle to the tyre value. super secure. i set to 245 front and 235 behind. swee swee. but now i a bit scared. spc air pump refuse to pump after 210. but i used caltex's clip to pump to 245 235... like forcing the tyre to accept an amount of air that it refused earlier on... sibei loh-soh hor... safe anot huh?
  11. sometimes after pumping petrol, i have the petrol smell in the car. not all the time, but out of 10 times, maybe 1-2 times. I kept my car totally lock, windows also close up. but it still happens. mine is a new car, less than 1 year old. this only happen right after pumping petrol, any reasons or explanations why?
  12. Is this ur car? :p http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...&sec=nation
  13. normally when pumping at petrol station, you will just see the label at the pump and just fill up. so how do i know the RON98 that i am pumping is the actual RON 98 and not some lower grade fuel?
  14. Good Day to all mycarforum forumers, Last night (approximately 1020hrs), I was at ESSO petrol station beside Serangoon JC, I used pump 6 to re-fuel Synergy 5000. As usual, I ensured that the rubber cover of the pump had fully covered the mouth of my fuel tank, with that ensured, I began re-fueling. (I've always had the preference of re-fueling on my own instead of getting the pump attendants to help). Watching the pump meter ticking towards 29-30 litres, I knew that the tank was about close to full, so I got ready for the pump trigger to dis-engage, however, instead of the usual 'tick' that we would hear or see, a gush of petrol came splashing out of my fuel tank, very quickly, I grabbed the pump's trigger and dis-engaged it. The side of my car was all splashed with petrol, my shoes were caught slightly in the 'action', lucky thing I didn't have the pump set to max speed for pumping, if not I'm sure even my clothes would have been caught in the 'action. The next thing I did very immediately was to close my fuel tank and poured water over the petrol contaminated areas of my car to clean it up for fear of it causing damage to my paintwork. I told the pump attendant of what I encountered and told him that this should be reflected to his supervisor ASAP, firstly its dangerous to users of the pump and dangerous to themsleves, secondly, its costly to us customers. I also told him that of course, I'm not expecting any discounts from this incident. I'm not posting this as a complaint, but more of a 'heads-up pre-cautionary' to you guys..I'm sure many of us have taken the auto stop function for granted. I can think of 2 possible reasons that might have caused this to happen: 1) I did not insert the nozzle into my fuel tank fully 2) Did not ensure that the rubber cover has covered my fuel tank mouth proper 3) The small vacuum pipe inside of the nozzle was faulty In any case, I hope that you guys will take alittle more caution when re-fueling after reading this.
  15. Just came back from JB, confirm that shell station control 20 litres.....I went to Esso and pump another 20 litres...very leh chey....think I will reconsider to go in.....sianz...just for info...
  16. I have lost touch on the latest update on S'porean pumping petrol in JB as they keep chaning...anyone gone to JB for petrol? Any restriction on foreign vehicle? What is the latest pump price there now? Thanks
  17. Hey folks, I just went to pump at my petrol station this morning. I made 2 observations: 1) My front driver side tyre pressure is about 10kpa less than the passenger side tyre when measured by the pump before it fills up to correct pressure. Is this normal? I drive alone most of the time, so it is right side heavy most of the time. 2) To test if the pressure I pumped is correct, I pushed in the probe a 2nd time after pumping for all the tyres. Realised that the pressure is immediately lower than what I pumped earlier (about 5-10kpa difference). Is this normal due to the pressure loss when inserting and removing the probe? So if my desired pressure is 220kpa, should I set the meter at 230kpa, so that I can take into account the pressure lost in removing the probe? Thanks for any help to a noob driver like me.
  18. I got this through email so i wonder do sg drivers follow these tips? TIPS ON PUMPING GAS (Good information) I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon.. Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money. One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money. DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS
  19. Hi, just want to alert everyone here to be careful when you pump gas in JB. On more than one occasion , I was short changed by the pump attendants. Example when I pump rm$25 worth of gas and handed rm$50 for payment, the attendants will only return rm$15 and quickly tried to walk away. I was lucky to be able to catch hold of the attendants and demanded the exact change to be return to me. This happened to me at least 3 times on different petrol stations(Esso, Shell and Caltex) I believed the attendants are aware that singapore registered cars tend to PFO( pump and F*** off) as quickly as we could so they will try to "cheat". When I was in KL, I even encountered a attentant printing a recept with the amount returned to me as rm$30 instead of rm$15. I pumped rm$35 and paid rm$50....not sure what he was trying to do and I simply just drove off...
