If there is a fire, and everyone simultaneously open their gates to escape, the opened gates from opposite units would become new "closed" gates blocking the entire corridor! if there are 8 units there would be 4 "closed" gates to overcome when escaping! Better buy parachutes....

I reckon the only solution to rectify this saga is for the hdb, mnd, scdf whatever to order the developer change all the metal gate. Sliding or centrally (50:50) swing gate. Current swing gate is 80: 20 I reckon.

Of course some sort of monetary compensation as well. This whole saga will be sweep under the carpet.

this is troubling ... [mad]

sounds like an opportunist investor with limited risk instead of a property developer ...

simi investment banking - buy low sell high?

Other than the DBSS Pasir Ris One project, it is also involved in CityLife@Tampines, an executive condominium project in Tampines.

In other words, SingHaiyi does not operate like traditional property developers, such as City Development or Far East Group, which take the full risk in a property development project.

SingHaiyi is controlled by husband and wife, Gordon Tang and Chen Huaidan, both hailed from PRC. Its website said
SingHaiyi differentiates itself from its competitors with its strategy to focus on design and has adopted an “investment banking” approach towards property development.

This approach is essentially a syndication approach whereby SingHaiyi leads in identifying development projects or other related opportunities, sets the commercial parameters and then brings in co-investors and joint venture partners, playing as far as possible a lead or co-lead role for the duration of such projects.

Could be BCA's guidelines for 1.2m is meant for corridors with doors on one side but not clearly specified so developer took the risk to exploit this grey area.

Hope the owners get the justice and compensation they deserve for putting up with this dreadful constraint which they are going to face on a daily basis.

Everyday walk pass neighbours with sulking face can be a torture.

BCA / SCDFcould direct the developer to remove all the grill gates from the doors. As some have pointed out, the corridor with every grill gate open is a deathtrap in a fire.

On this note, do you think that there are currently private developments that also have 1.2m corridors but they don't talk about it, and reporters cannot suga suga go inside to measure? Maybe it's more common than presumed?

I know some play with the GFA by reducing corridors and giving private lifts (or a couple of units share one) instead. Then only need to provide short corridors.

Even Hong Kong government flat corridor also bigger than 1.2m.

I visited my uncle's government flat in Tuen Mun, New Territories in Hong Kong. The width of the corridor is bigger than this Pasir One DBSS and opposite also have neighbours staying.

But his unit is damn small, smaller than our HDB one room flat. No bedroom and small toilet.
