maybe, just maybe....

its better for e bike to put themselves in danger on road than to endanger pedestrian on pavement.

These illegal ebike may shock some weak heart driver into heart attack. That would also endanger other motorist le.

Turbocharged

Cyclist vs Driver...... hmmm.... both lose.... 1 sign package with RADx, surrender ic, put into wooden box, into oven and toasted.... the other lost the license, go changi chalet, become botak and rub metal bar.... and guilt of a lifetime for making the other fella hand in his ic early.

So ride and drive safely..... go home safely to your family and piak your wife.

"This cyclist came out from ION Orchard stretch and cycled across the traffic junction to outside of Shaw House on his own terms (really!). My wife gave a small tap of the horn to alert the cyclist. Guess what this joker did ? He threw his packet drink onto the windscreen as he passes by to the side. Damn suay."

Common lah. Especially for this type of E-bike which travel so fast ! If hit pesdestrian the impact would be damaging !

Its better we watch out form them, and not wait for them to watch out for us. <_<

Problem is that they (e-bikers) seem to be getting bolder with the speed - (as it seems they are getting the cruising feeling) and the other type is the scooters type (which they use the footpaths usually and competing with pedestrians it seems); What happened to the good old fashioned roller skates :o

I'm often curious and sometimes frustrated when I see cyclists riding thru' pedestrians crossings (aka "zebra-crossing") with no cares in this world [mad]

I recall having read that cyclists are not permitted to ride thru' pedestrian crossings and they MUST get down their bikes to push them? Or has the rule changed? From my observation, I often see vehicles having to stop/stop abruptly for cyclists to ride across the pedestrian crossings [confused]

The dilemma is this:

If you are driving and see a cyclist heading towards the pedestrian crossing and there isn't any pedestrian using the crossing at that moment. Are you going to slow down and stop for the cyclist to use the pedestrian crossing? Or will you simply drive through the crossing and not give way to the cyclist, seeing that the cyclist was slowing down to stop before the crossing?

Real incident:

Once, I saw a driver sounding his horn (softly) to caution an approaching cyclist towards a zebra-crossing. The driver was probably not intending to give way to the cyclist since it is a pedestrian crossing but he wanted the cyclist to be aware.

The next thing I saw, the cyclist didn't care, stared at the approaching driver and rode thru' the zebra-crossing. The driver had to jammed brake to allow the cyclist to ride thru'. The driver, simply frustrated, sounded his horn again at the cyclist. What happened next appalled me!

The cyclist stopped. Walked towards the driver, and attempted to open the car door to challenge a fight!! As I was few cars behind, I could only see the driver waving his hand wildly in the car and did not alight to face the confrontation. The cyclist then stood in front of the car and challenged the driver to bang him. The cars at the back were starting to horn and shortly later, the cyclist walked back to his bicycle. The driver drove off.

What do you guys think?

This is what i did previous. I am making a right towards to pedestrian crossing which is showing RED MAN. Cyclist cycles across the pedestrian crossing disregard the red man. I hold my car horn until cyclist in the middle of the crossing (right next to traffic light). Immediately, i continue with my journey slowly just in case he changed his mind.

Rules haven't changed.

It's just there's no enforcement.

Maybe LTA and TP cannot cope with the increased growth in population?

Some of these idiots can do the dumbest things. I was making a u-turn at a traffic light in TPY central and almost ran into a cyclist, on the other side of the road, cycling against the flow of traffic and trying to cut diagonally across the junction

It is more efficient to catch speedster than errant cyclist.

You see, that's the problem:(

The (traffic) rule has stated that cyclists CANNOT not use the pedestrian crossings to cycle on it. They can, however, dismount from their bicycles, and push them across the crossings like any other pedestrians. But for convenience, these cyclists would just cycle across carelessly.

I'm also a cyclist at times and I am very conscious of this. The very least, you set a good example to your children who will be using the bicycles when they grow up to cycle around by themselves. If we, as mature adults, don't start this good safety habits, the children will grow up thinking they are safe to cycle across pedestrians like that.

Now, what is going to happen to a driver who hit onto a cyclist cycling across at a pedestrian crossing? Will the driver be taken to task?

I'm not suggesting in any way that drivers do not give way at pedestrian crossings but the more we condone such behavior, the more it becomes a norm. So what do we do now?

a. continue to stop before the pedestrian crossing for cyclists to use?

b. insist on your right of way to drive thru' these crossings despite cyclists approaching?

c. write in to TP/LTA to address these issues?

d. wait for a serious RTA (road traffic accident) to occur than start to talk about it?

The traffic rules are this:

Vehicle approaching crossing to slow down
5. The driver of every vehicle approaching a pedestrian crossing shall, unless he can see that there is no pedestrian thereon, proceed at such speed as will enable him to stop his vehicle before reaching the crossing.
So the laws expect you to slow down through pedestrian crossings, regardless whether they are being used or not.

Yes. I think most of us, if not all, do understand this.

But in a situation where a cyclist is involved and a collision happens, who will be taken to task? Why I feel this warrants our attention because we are seeing more and more motorized/electric bikes and scooters on the roads. And this adds on to the ever-increasing bicycles on the roads.

We are all sharing very limited space already. If we as drivers are trying to be as responsible as possible, in the usage of our roads, don't you think the cyclists, motorized scooters/riders should too? At the end of the day, it is not to benefit anyone else but ourselves in terms of safety and ease of use of our roads.
