  1. Hudway Cast Review Got my Hudway Cast from crowd funding recently (finally after a few months of delay). Promised a review of the unit for those who might be considering buying it. First off, a few pictures of the box and the unit. The undernearh the main unit within the box contains the accessories: - the dash mount that has a semi adhesive backing. - small Allen key to adjust the tilt of the unit over the mount. - ciggerate socket lighter plug power cord - a bag of plastic cord organiser with 3m double sided stickers to stick to your car dash - quick start instruction manual booklet and device safety booklet What is not included but I ordered as optional accessory is the OBDII connector/power cord. With this accessory, it allows me to free up the clutter at my centre console ciggy lighter socket area and let me have the car speed and rpm on display when my Hudway Cast is not connected to my phone. I feel this is a must have to maximise the capability of the Cast. This is how I position my Cast and how I laid the power cord see the blue arrow heads: This is how OBDII is connected to my car's. I tucked the excess cords out of the way under the foot well lining: The Hudway Cast positioned where the transparent display just above the engine hood top and the main machine unit is below the hood top. This will maximise the field of vision while reducing the main unit's obtrusion into the essential driving field: The display looks bigger than what I can capture by my phone camera. Maybe it's something to do with the way the image is projected. Anyway the image is crisp and sharp; I am unable to get a picture of the Cast displaying my Waze/Google map since the display will always cast whatever is on my phone when I goes into camera mode to take a picture... You guys have to take an Internet sourced picture as reference to the quality.. It looks like this: Will post my thoughts and comments next=> Build quality: the packaging and the unit itself feels very high quality. Will not look out of place in an expensive luxury car. Ease of hardware set up: Very intuitive and plug and play. I am abit obsessive about not cluttering my dash, so took abit of time to lay and route the power cord in a way it is hidden from view most of the way. Ease of mobile phone connection setup (android): I am using Samsung Galaxy S9+. Initially I thought it was connected via bluetooth so spent some time trying to search for the Hudway Cast's Bluetooth ID... Turned out I have to make use of the Samsung version of miracast, named Smart View. It is a form of WiFi connection. Once you make the first connection, it's pretty easy to connect from the pull down quick settings menu of the phone. Main function of the Hudway Cast: It does it's job very well. Imagine your waze/Google map in semi transparent 8 inch phone displayed in your line of sight. The navigation voice and phone sounds are played through an on board speaker of decent mono quality. Volume can be adjusted via the physical buttons on the unit. The screen brightness level can be adjusted via Hudway cast app. The screen brightness also auto adjust according to varying ambient lighting. For eg, when entering the tunnel, it will dim the display so that you do not get the glare and when exiting, it will tune up the brightness so that the display remain visible under the sun. - it will auto power on and off when you start and stop the engine. - once connected, it will cast ANYTHING from your phone ..... YouTube, movies, ebooks..... But who does that while driving? Cons: - the boot up slightly slow, so have to wait abit for the unit to be ready to connect to cast - have to manually connect to cast (still figuring how to automate the connection process if possible) - the phone needs to be in landscape mode for the screen to display in maximum dimension. So either you get a phone mount that can hold the phone horizontal or you lock your phone in landscape mode manually while driving. Overall Conclusion: Am pretty happy with the purchase and will recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good quality aftermarket HUD that can do alot more stuff that all car manufacturer's HUD cannot. .. Cast your waze/Google map in it's full glory.
  2. Anyone use Singtel Cast? https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/lifestyle-services/cast And anyone subscribed to HBO GO? Combo 6 and up now got promo: 24 months free HBO GO But in this case HBO GO is supposedly through Singtel Cast. What I take that to mean is I can only watch HBO stuff via the Cast app. Anyone got experience with this? If I get the HBO GO add-on though Singtel can I watch it independently?

  7. "AXA Insurance Singapore is making a test case out of its bid to reject any payout to the family of Chinese national Ma Chi, the Ferrari driver who died in a high-speed crash which left two others dead and two injured. If it succeeds in its High Court move, there will be insurance implications for other motorists, especially owners of the growing number of high-performance sports cars here. The insurer claims Mr Ma's recklessness meant that the May 12 tragedy was a "collision" and not an accident, and therefore it should not pay any compensation to his estate. If the courts agree, the insurer will be allowed to claim from Mr Ma's estate all third-party compensation it pays to the other victims." 13. Last week I was in Shanghai to attend a gala dinner for the Special Olympics and gave some donations, as VW was one of the sponsors of the Special Olympics, I was suprise to recieve a Precision Die Cast replica of the Skoda Octavia (A5) model, to my excitment I asked if they had a Skoda Superb, alas they do not have it as it is not launched yet. Anyways back to the Octavia looking at it, it is a beautifully crafter enthusiast model car, it is a full aluminum die cast with powder coated external shell. It it has well made plastics and even some vivnyl to replicate the carpeting of the actual model. The attention to details can be seen on the dash board and HU area, it has the original Skoda HU/NAV Sat setup box. The Skoda Badge and rims even has the Skoda silk screen to it. It has collapsable wing mirrors, all four doors can be opened, the hood and bonnett can also be opened. When you turn the steering wheel you actually turn the wheel, ingenious. The undercarraige is well detailed too with individual suspension in the front and rear axis. The color it only in Silver as they only had this color abvailable. Let me know if you are interested - as I do not drive a Octavia therefore I am letting this go. Price bidding starts at $60.00 not over $100 for those interested, PM me. Cheers.

  16. Royston Tan's movie cast pelted with eggs during promo event Was attack DIRTY DEED or PR STUNT? By Avis Wong August 04, 2007 WE'VE all heard of the proverbial egg-in-the-face. Actress Mindee Ong actually got it. The lead for Royston Tan's new movie about Singapore's getai circuit was happily going about promoting the show on a pickup truck on Wednesday night, when she was pelted with an egg - and, by all accounts, a rotten one at that. The egg flew and landed smack on her forehead, spilling egg yolk on her eyes and leaving them bloodshot. A piece of flying egg shell cut the outer corner of her left eye. Mindee, 28, wasn't the only one who was hit. Co-stars Qi Yuwu got it on the shoulder, Yeo Yann Yann got it on the back of her neck, and twins May and Choy got egg on their wigs. Even the director, Royston himself, got egg on his brand new suit. All five - together with Yuwu - were standing at the back of the pickup, which had moved off from The Heeren Shops. It was just about to reach Orchard Emerald, when a motorcycle allegedly pulled up close to the vehicle. That was when the bike's pillion rider allegedly started throwing eggs at the cast, the movie's crew members said. Royston, who directed the movie titled 881, said they were bantering with pedestrians and singing a Hokkien song when they were struck. 'It all happened so fast. I just heard Mindee say '****'. But she assured us that she was okay. We were shocked, but we quickly recovered ourselves and continued to wave to the crowd,' Royston told The New Paper yesterday. The cast had just finished a 7.30pm-road show at The Heeren Shops and heading to Plaza Singapura where they had another show at 8.30pm. Mr Eric Ng, music director of the film, was following in his own car behind the pickup and saw the incident. He told The New Paper: 'The traffic was quite heavy. We were driving along the second lane from the left when the motorbike came from the bus lane. 'Then I saw eggs flying and the men were throwing and smiling. I immediately gave chase.' Mr Ng, who had two passengers with him, said the two men rode dangerously, weaving in and out of the traffic. He said he lost them when they made a left turn into Central Expressway after the Le Meridien Singapore hotel. He added that they appeared young. He also claimed the motorcycle's licence plate was covered with white gaffer tape and he could only see the letters FV. Mr Gary Goh, one of the producers of the film, said he received Mr Ng's call about the incident and when the cast reached Plaza Singapura, they were taken to the washroom to clean up and to check for cuts. Mindee Ong (left) with co-star Yeo Yann Yann in a still from the movie. The cast, including Mindee, continued with their show. Mr Goh added: 'We asked if she was okay and that we could remove her segment but she said she will press on.' The New Paper could not reach Mindee for comments. But actress Yann Yann, 30, told The New Paper: 'When it happened, we were shocked for a while. Then we told ourselves that if someone wants to sabotage us, all the more we'd want to give an even better performance.' After the performance, Royston, Mr Goh and another crew member said they booked a cab and rushed Mindee to the hospital. She was allegedly given an injection, as well as some eyedrops and an eye patch to protect her eye, said Royston. Getai singer Karen Lim, 36, who has a supporting role in the movie, said she visited Mindee at home yesterday. She said Mindee removed her eye patch and showed her her red and swollen eyes. 'I am so angry. What if her face was hurt and she was left with scars? 'I have never encountered such an incident in the 21 years that I have been running the circuit,' she added. Royston said that they did not file a police report as they 'did not want to kick up a big fuss'. But by not reporting the incident, wouldn't he be putting his cast in danger? He said: 'We're too busy with the publicity of the movie and would like to think it's a one-off incident. 'It would be too difficult to catch the culprits anyway because we did not see their faces or their licence plate number.' Royston said he does not know who might want to do such a thing to them. He added: 'If it was staged, I would have been more relieved. I don't want people to think it's a publicity stunt. It would make us look very cheap.' Meanwhile, the weekend promotional activities at various heartland malls will continue and Royston said they will continue to use the pickup. However, Mr Goh said they might consider blasting music from the vehicle instead of having the cast on board. 'We cannot afford that sort of risk and must protect the interest of the artistes,' he said. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/st...37714,00.html?? looks like a motorcade doing chinese funeral procession
