  1. Your Porsche might be delayed or up in smoke.... Yahoo news : Cargo ship carrying hundreds of Porsches left to burn in Atlantic after crew flee A cargo ship carrying Porsches and Volkswagen vehicles was abandoned after it caught fire in the middle of the Atlantic, with crew rescued and the ship left to drift. It is not yet clear what caused the blaze aboard the Felicity Ace, but all crew members are thought to have been rescued from the vessel, industry website Auto Evolution reported. Among the cars believed to be on the ship is a Porsche 718 Spyder belonging to You Tube star Matt Farah. “I just got the call from my dealer. My car is now adrift, possibly on fire, in the middle of the ocean,” he tweeted. Volkswagen Group acknowledged the incident in a statement but didn’t provide clarity on the cause. A spokesperson told Insider in a statement: "We are aware of an incident today involving a cargo ship transporting Volkswagen Group vehicles across the Atlantic. At this time, we are not aware of any injuries. We are working with local authorities and the shipping company to investigate the cause of the incident." A Porsche app referenced the incident but did not appear to provide details of the issue. “We are aware of an incident aboard the Felicity Ace, a specialized cargo ship carrying certain Porsche vehicles. Your dealership will provide you with additional information on how this impacts you as soon as we have additional information and know the full scope of the issue,” the message reportedly read. The Associated Press reported that the crew members were taken to Faial island in the Azores, about 100 miles from the ship, and were staying at local hotels. A Portuguese navy commander told the AP that the ship’s massive size would likely preclude it from being towed to port in the Azores. It’s unclear where the ship will ultimately end up. The Associated Press contributed.
  2. 37 flights delayed, one runway closed for 10 hours, due to unauthorised drones around Changi Airport Sources: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/37-flights-delayed-one-runway-closed-for-10-hours-due-to-unauthorised-drones SINGAPORE - Some 37 flights were delayed and one of Changi Airport's two runways was closed for 10 hours, after unauthorised drones were spotted flying in the vicinity of the airport on Tuesday (June 18) and Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said on Wednesday evening. "To ensure the safety of aircraft operations and passengers, the operations of one runway were suspended for short periods of time between 11pm on June 18 and 9am on June 19," said the authority in a statement to the media. The CAAS noted that Changi Airport continued to operate with one runway while operations on the other runway were suspended. The agency added that about 37 scheduled departure and arrival flights were delayed as a result, with one arrival flight being diverted to Kuala Lumpur. A multi-agency team that includes the CAAS, Changi Airport Group, the Singapore Armed Forces and the police has been activated for search and locate operations. Investigations are ongoing, said the authority. "The authorities take a serious view of errant operations of unmanned aircraft which may pose threats to aviation or endanger the personal safety of others, and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against those who contravene regulations," said the CAAS. Under the Unmanned Aircraft (Public Safety and Security) Act, the flying of drones within 5km of airports or military airbases, or at altitudes above 200ft (61m), without a permit is an offence. Those found guilty of violating these regulations face a fine of up to $20,000 or up to 12 months in jail, or both penalties. Drones have disrupted civil aviation elsewhere. In December last year, unauthorised drone activity disrupted flights at London's Gatwick Airport for three days, affecting about 140,000 passengers and 1,000 flights. In January, Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min said in Parliament that there had been eight reports of unauthorised drones flying within 5km of Changi Airport over the past three years, though none of these cases involved intrusions into the airport.
  3. SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has confirmed that there was a bomb threat concerning flight SQ001, which originated from San Francisco and arrived at Changi Airport on Sunday afternoon (Nov 22). In a media statement, SIA said that the matter was referred to the authorities. “We regret we are unable to provide details, as it concerns security,” it said. The plane landed safely at about noon, but disembarkation was delayed until around 1.30pm. Passengers then had to wait for nearly two hours to collect their baggage. Passengers were calm, although not much information was given by the airline, one of them told TODAY. “We were held on the tarmac … for about 20 minutes. The captain then made the announcement that the gate was changed,” said Mr Hoe, who declined to give his full name. “We were then parked at some remote area near the airport, and no further information was given, apart from waiting for air traffic control instructions. “At approximately 1.10pm, the captain made the announcement that the plane will be held on the tarmac, and we would be ferried to the terminal by airport bus due to security concerns. “I thought the captain was handling the situation well. No one was panicking on board. We actually didn’t know anything, and everyone thought it was just a normal delay until the announcement was made at 1.10pm. Everyone still remained calm.” -TODAY/al http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/sia-confirms-bomb-threat/2283898.html

  5. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The next James Bond movie will be delayed indefinitely due to "uncertainty" from the still unfinished auction of MGM, the movie studio behind the film series, producers said on Monday. The so far untitled movie, which will be the 23rd in the series about the British spy, had been due for release in 2011 or 2012. James Bond is one of MGM's most lucrative franchises. But Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of James Bond, said in a joint statement, "Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on BOND 23 indefinitely." The two producers added that they do not know when development of the film will resume and when it will be released in theaters. A representative for MGM could not be reached for comment. MGM last year began exploring a potential sale of itself, and sources said in March the company received a $1.5 billion bid from Time Warner Inc. It was the highest bid received for MGM, but still below the $2 billion or more that the storied Hollywood studio had initially hoped to receive, and it could still file for bankruptcy, sources have said.

  7. Plans to install closed circuit televisions (CCTV) at locations across Singapore to deter illegal parking have been delayed. The cameras were initially targeted to be implemented by the second quarter of this year. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said companies which won the bids earlier were unable to comply with parts of the tender specifications. LTA did not provide further details. New proposals are now under evaluation. LTA expects to implement the CCTVs progressively at 30 locations from the first quarter of next year. It should be completed by end-2014. So far, a pilot project at Marine Parade Central and Beach Road has produced results. Since cameras were installed in those areas in 2011, the number of parking violations recorded jumped by three to six times, to about 1,200 each month. This is compared to 400 for Beach Road and 200 for Marine Parade Central before the cameras were installed. Tan Boon Huat, managing director of Grassland Express, said: "Previously, cars used to park indiscriminately, resulting in one lane less for vehicles, so there will be traffic congestion during peak hours. "Before, it was just too congested… Now it's… better… not only for taxis but (for) all the cars. So the lanes are not jeopardised by vehicles which are not moving." 8. If a report from Japan's Best Car is to be believed, Toyota will delay the release of the FT-86 from 2011 to 2013. The reasons behind the delay are varied, and include a different design direction, the economic slowdown and possibly a revised powertrain strategy that could include some kind of hybrid motivation. As reported previously, the original FT-86 concept was just that
  9. Reuters - Thursday, October 30 SINGAPORE, Oct 30 - The full opening of one of Singapore's casinos may be delayed due to construction issues and a shortage of labour, a local newspaper reported on Thursday. (really???as simple a reason as that) The Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, awarded to Las Vegas Sands in 2006, is several months behind schedule, the pro-government daily Straits Times said, citing sources. The casino was due to open at the end of 2009. The newspaper said the foundation work for the casino was delayed three to four months and quoted sources as saying it was "impossible" for all its facilities to be fully operational by the end of 2009. Marina Bay Sands officials were not immediately available for comment. Built on reclaimed land from the sea, the project is one of two multi-billion dollar casinos under construction since Singapore legalised casino gaming in 2005 to attract more tourists. The second casino, Resorts World at Sentosa, is being built by Genting International and is scheduled for completion in 2010. Resorts World may also see a delay in the opening of some of its facilities, although a casino spokeswoman said it was "on track" for a "soft opening" in 2010, the paper said. (WTH is that??!!so, not consider delayed??..!) The two casinos have been hit by higher construction costs since building began, causing Genting International to revise its costs for Resorts World up 15 percent to S$6 billion last year. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20081030/tap...os-c3bb44c.html most likely was due to bad situation that causes the delayed....
  10. Sep 5, 2008 LTA may review plan on ERP gantries By Christopher Tan SENIOR CORRESPONDENT THE six additional electronic road-pricing (ERP) gantries slated to come online in November may not be activated at once, said Transport Minister Raymond Lim on Friday. Mr Lim, speaking at a Press Club luncheon, said traffic flow on several roads in the city has improved since the Land Transport Authority unveiled a slew of ERP changes in July. 'If this is sustained, then LTA will be happy to review the plan,' the Minister said. 'It may then need to put up only a few gantries rather than all six.' The new gantries are on Commonwealth Avenue, Jalan Bukit Merah, Serangoon Road, Alexandra Road, Ayer Rajah Expressway (westbound near Alexandra Road) and Pan-Island Expressway (westbound near Eunos). They were among two dozen or so gantries added to Singapore roads this year. Although the gantries have been built, not all have been switched on. In places where they are up and running, the impact has been noticeable. Five new ones along the Singapore River, along with extended operating hours for others, have improved travelling speeds in the city. Motorists who had been bracing themselves for the six new gantries are keeping their fingers crossed. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_275568.html aiya. install liaoz mai activate? mike as well just tear down. waste $$. white elephant...
  11. The reason given was that a live telecast will interfere with the 9.30pm news. What a stupid reason! The match can easily be telecast live on another channel but I guess they have decided not to do that as it would incur some $$$$ loss for mediacorp........tcss only, at the end of the day it's all about $$$$$.

  13. BT 16/6 MOBILE phone users fed up with their operator will have to be patient for at least another six months as true number portability has been postponed to next year. But at least the appointment of Syniverse Technologies as the centralised database administrator was made yesterday, which is necessary for implementing true number portability - when you will be able to switch to another telco and hang on to your number. An Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) statement yesterday said it has appointed Syniverse Technologies as the administrator. Six companies had bid for the job. 'The true number portability solution, which is expected to be ready by the second quarter of 2008, will allow consumers to retain full use of their existing phone numbers, rather than having to update their contacts about a new one,' the IDA said. From 1 January 2008, consumers who wish to port their fixed line numbers will also no longer need to pay monthly recurring porting fees, just like how it has been for the porting of mobile numbers since 2003, the IDA said. Last year, the IDA said implementation of true number portability would be in the fourth quarter of this year. An IDA spokeswoman said the delay was to give operators more time to get their networks ready. The mobile and fixed line operators had provided feedback that they would need a reasonable amount of time to conduct and complete the extensive works and tests, she said. 'The operators have also raised their concerns on the need to minimise network changes and system testings during the end-year and beginning-year festive periods, as these periods usually experience heavy voice and data traffic.' In this way, consumers will have fewer concerns when deciding their most suitable telecoms service providers, and thus enjoy greater service choices as mobile and fixed line operators are spurred to offer more attractive packages to retain and gain new customers, it said. IDA deputy chief exeutive and director-general (Telecoms) Leong Keng Thai said that once true number portability kicks off, 'Singapore's telecoms market should expect to see even greater competition among the mobile and the fixed line operators'. New York-listed Syniverse Technologies will operate the centralised database system for seven years starting with the launch of true number portability. On its website, Syniverse Technologies said its solutions are used in more than 350 communications companies in over 50 countries to provide seamless mobile services by making it possible for disparate technologies and standards to inter-operate.
