  6. Post Ma Chi: more affordable motor insurance moving forward? You could thus read that again: "(g) any wilful act and/or wilful negligence of yourself or that of your Authorised driver." Thus, the ordinary 1st party insurance policies are NOT meant as coverage for accidents due to speeding, DUI, reckless/ careless driving, accidents caused by shooting red lights etc etc. Perhaps the government could impose a more fluid tax upon insurers such that any amounts in excess of 20 percent earnings (profits) from motor insurance premiums over an up to 3 yrs declaration period should be taxed at 100% annually (tax free for profits below 20%)- and limits upon the management fees for the insurance scheme from exceeding 20% of premiums collected- thus the care by motor insurance companies across the board to ensure minimal unnecessary overhead costs, insured drivers remain careful and that premiums are kept to minimum so as to remain competitive, since drivers too would be able to insurance shop for the lowest rates. Drivers too will drive less recklessly as they know insurance companies to be careful about every cent paid out. Motor insurance being a 'public good' and compulsory by legislation, ought be run on a 'not-for-profit' basis. Likewise, motor insurance SHOULD not promote the dangerous use of cars as private entertainment/ racing machines that illicitly abuse public roads as personal F1-racetracks/ playgrounds. PS: 'Taxes' imposed upon motor insurance companies for profits in excess of 20% of premiums p.a. should be paid to a fund that subsidizes the care, welfare/ employment etc of hit and run victims wherein no insurer can be identified to compensate for such incidents (i.e. not to accrue as profits/ dividends to insurance co. shareholders). The 20% p.a. profit cap/ management fee cap figure is just a suggestion for consideration, it may be adjusted accordingly as necessary. The regulation suggested here to reduce motor insurance premiums is necessary due to the fact that motor insurance, according to the 'Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act (CHAPTER 189)' is compulsory; I am however, NOT advocating such regulations for other forms of life/ healthcare/ hospitalization etc insurance insofar that such insurance, unlike motor insurance in Singapore, are not legal necessities.

  10. Hi Guys, Recently i just did the following: Change of all Engine Mounting, Change of All Suspension; Gear Box Over haul; Rotor & Brake Pad Change(Front done, rear using drum which not done); Brake Oil Change However every time when i brake, there seems to be a jerk which a sound that "thump" with a jerk forward before coming to a full stop. Even before i did the above changes the "thump" before come to a full stop is there. Initially i thought is the engine mounting. Does any brothers here encountered the same problem?
  11. It should be coming early next yr I think...... Waiting for it for a long long time already. Only downside is that I feel its going to be a relatively heavy car. I would prefer something like the AE86, 1.6L 4AGE 20V (perhaps an improved version with VVTi) and minimalist interior to save weight, optional radio.... that would be cool!!
  12. 2011 GE has just passed, and WP has captured Aljunied. Now Fast-forward to 2016, what will the PAP do to capture Aljunied back? assuming no changes in ecomony, and social issues. 1) sent in a bigger gun? (aka: another minister? or the PM himself?) 2) or arrow some unkown and drag it out like STYP. Note: now that they split up the normination centres, suddenly switching out Aljunied to avoid a "big gun" will be difficult for WP. My take on future elections, PAP will alway be on the defensive. and which million dollar minister is willing to risk their pay-cheque. Personally i would love to see PAP take option 1, if they have the balls!! haha. your comments
  13. WP's break thru at aljunied GRC is a huge step forward however i'm really sad to see mr chaim lost his GRC fight and also potong pasir, where he had served 27 yrs. wat sway the residents in potong pasir really buffs me. considering mr chaim had fight so hard for the past 27 yrs. end of the day, pple like WKS, MBT, RL, VB are still happily in their almost 3m/yr post wif no contribution to the country. and worse off, a certain kate spade lady is going thru by the B-system (mind u, not BUDDY but BACK-DOOR system) and she is going to be the voice for pple in MP GRC. for someone whom cant even handle a simple facebook account well, i haf serious doubt she can head the ward. but borrow a phrase from MM, voters has 5 yrs to regret and repent. hopefully by then, our fellow singaporeans could grow some courage (or rather balls) and put their words into action. lastly, good-bye to mr chiam. u're a true legend and a fighter for fellow singaporeans. i salute u and ur hardwork will not be forgotten.
  14. What do you think of this idea. All cars much come with forward sensors. If you are keeping too close to the car in front of you, it will sound. Then you know you should slow down and keep a bigger distance.
  15. As above! I am an absolute fanatic of GT5 and would like to share my thoughts! Maserati Gran Turismo S

  17. good to know that HA is ramping up the A&P for the brand for eg. the Class 95 launch. However, their pricing strategy leaves much to be desired. Understand that the OMV is the main culprit. Given that it seriously inflates the selling price, I'm bewildered that they did not seek strongly to bring in the lower spec version. I dunno, maybe their hands are tied, they were pressured. But 84K for Octy 1.4 ?? I dun care TSI or ZTI, its freaking expensive !! IMO, they are still very naive to think that pple will buy becos its value for $$$ (issit still ?). Without addressing the current limitations/weaknesses of their operations/support, they have simply believed that just because of their VAG linkage, the car will automatically sell well . Well, the MK1 Octy and Spb are already good cars. Already built with VAG parts, price lower but people still did not bite. The old vRS can be a monster as the older members can attest to but still it sold in limited numbers. The new one ? LAGI worse, sold 2/3 ? So now, becos of the DSG, it suddenly became GOOD again ? Well, VW selling like hotcakes due to the iconic Golf leading the way. But skoda ? I doubt so. Well, given the current pricing, I dun think I will consider a skoda for my next car. Put it bluntly, why get a Octavia if I can get a Jetta ? Mind you, the Octavia is just a facelifted model, not even a new model. And given that VW QC remains suspect (hear lots of stories over at vagsg) , what then of skoda ? I wonder whats all the fuss about. I empathise with Tashi about HA totally ignoring this community. Their only involvement is using this forum for Q&A !! Enuff said. sorry for being lor sor .....
  18. Retirement age of SAF officers to be raised from 45 to 50 By Jeremy Koh/Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 14 May 2009 1712 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) SINGAPORE : The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has announced several new and enhanced career schemes for its personnel. These include raising the retirement age of SAF officers and a new military domain expert scheme (MDES). The retirement age for SAF officers will be raised from 45 to 50. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said this will ensure their leadership abilities and experience are retained. He announced the changes during a visit to Sembawang Airbase on Thursday. For regulars, there will be the MDES, with a retirement age of 60. The aim is to nurture a group of personnel who have deep professional expertise in key military domains, such as engineering and intelligence. The military domain experts will have a new eight-rank structure from ME1 to ME8. Mr Teo said: "Military domain experts will work with cutting-edge systems, receive more academic and professional upgrading opportunities, as well as attractive market based remuneration. Military domain experts with diplomas will have opportunities to upgrade their skills and qualifications through degree level." Mr Teo also announced that warrant officers will have expanded job scope and responsibilities. For instance, they will assume roles previously undertaken by junior officers. To allow for a faster progression through the ranks, a new 3rd Warrant Officer rank will be introduced. With this new rank, high-performing specialists can attain their warrant officership as early as the end of their sixth year in service. There will also be more opportunities for them to upgrade themselves professionally and academically. The Ministry of Defence will implement these enhanced and new schemes by the first quarter of 2010. - CNA/ms
  19. well actually am really looking forward to it cos i will get a smoother and more responsive drive for a while with the change of engine oil and spark plug. but on the other hand becos going back to agent (KM), am relectant to pay for over-priced engine oil and labour only to get some sub-standard service. these are some of my experiance... - engine oil was top-up till it crosses the max line - used spark plugs were left in the engine bay - despite telling them about noise, they either say no time to check, can't hear when they tested it etc - was told i can't bring my own engine oil when i found out later some have done it before with no problem. - either can't or cldn't be bother to check on my not so important complains kept saying they can't find out what is wrong. just voicng my frastration and sharing my experiance...
  20. the tread on most effective mod started me thinking. is there one straight forward and/or simple upgrade or mod that you've experianced that had given you a better drive, in terms of better response, smoother ride, better FC, quieter ride etc. i am thinking as fundamental, straight forward as spark plug and ignition cables ( both of which are not conclusive ), engine oil etc. as simple as simply taking out and replacing. appreciate any input. thanks !
