  1. TL;DR – A Honda Fit turns right onto oncoming traffic and casually makes an illegal U-turn straight after. It’s not every day you get to see a small hatchback like a Honda Fit make a super-wide U-turn. How wide, you ask? Like driving against oncoming traffic before making an illegal U-turn kind of wide. Watch the 31-second video to find out what I mean. What happened It all begins at a discretionary right turn at a cross junction, location unidentifiable (if you know where this is, do let me know in the comments section below). A Honda Fit makes the turn but accidentally turns into oncoming traffic. While most drivers would hit that panic button at this point, this Fit driver calmly makes an illegal U-turn, cool as a cucumber. A very expensive u-turn As noted in the caption of the post in Roads.SG's Facebook page: But there are some other considerations as well: Driving without due care or reasonable consideration for other road users – 9 demerit points and $300 fine Reckless or dangerous driving – 24 demerit points and prosecution in court Personally, it feels like an accident, and the driver made a calm and composed decision to rectify the mistake as soon as it was safe to do so. But as always, let’s see what netizens think. Online Chatter Hmm. Doesn’t seem like it though. That's quite funny. Is this comment targeted at the driver, or the comments flaming the driver? I'm confused. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  2. Most people in Singapore purchase an SUV for its spacious body rather than its utility. And that makes sense as it is almost impossible to put an SUV to the test in a city environment such as Singapore. However, a particular Volvo driver did just that. Watch it here: What Happened? A recent Channel News Asia news article reported that "Heavy traffic through Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints expected for the rest of June: ICA". And truth be told, that was exactly what a Volvo XC40 driver experienced. After getting impatient with the long wait, he decided to perform a 'u-turn' (which is obviously illegal). Leveraging his SUV's ground clearance, the Volvo driver mounted the kerb and proceeded to make a 5-point turn to get himself out of the standstill jam. NGL, I am pretty amazed at the Volvo driver's attitude to performing whatever he did in the video above. Some possible reasons for his actions are: 1. Forgetting to bring his passport 2. Need to use the toilet urgently 3. To escape the heavy congestion 4. Got fuel check + his petrol tank below the mandated 3/4 tank What do you think made the Volvo driver perform the 'u-turn'? Netizens' Comments At most pay the fine for his illegal u-turn lor. LOL. When the phrase "I at custom liao" have more than one meaning to it😂 ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. Who says ninjas don't exist? This black Toyota Estima was the victim of a ruthless attack by a sneaky ninja who pounced on him while he was just trying to make a U-turn (rather poorly). BAM! you can see the ninja (van) went straight for the kill while the Estima stopped just inches away from the kerb. After the swift attack, the ninja (van) makes his (not so) quick getaway... not knowing that everything was recorded by a dash cam! This isn't feudal Japan, where are you going to run to? In all seriousness though, it is important to look where you are going when driving, especially so when making a U-turn. There's always a chance that the car in front hasn't completed the turn in one swift motion, they might even have to reverse, and you wouldn't want to be right behind them when they do! At least now we know why Ninjavan's deliveries are prompt, not even an accident can stop them! 🤣
  4. Well kids, welcome to Monday, and to start a new week we have this video that is proof that not all crazy and or whacky events that take place in Singapore necessarily have to happen in Yishun. For once, the east gets to have its own slice of the action, right along East Coast Road. To be frank, this writer likes the way the Mercedes looks. From the video, it looks to be a C-Class with some black wheels on white paint. Good combo. But that's where the good part ends. First of all, how were you driving to even make a u-turn at that spot anyway? Lest this writer forgets, "creating a space for a u-turn by crashing through the central dividing fence" wasn't in the basic or final theory handbook in driving school. If there was a recent addition like that, please let this writer know. It's a pity the video doesn't show how the Mercedes got themselves in that spot to begin with, but this writer will say that the driver is very determined to get his/her car out of that spot, despite all that expensive scraping noise that is sure to result in some interesting patterns and or damage for the undercarriage. Also, the Mercedes also completely ignored the man in a grey shirt who was walking towards the car, perhaps in a futile bid to find out what was going on or just to render some help. It is somewhat amusing to this writer that the Mercedes just accelerates away, leaving behind a mess of strewn metal fencing and a bevy of confused onlookers. Takes a real boss to do that, driving away nonchalantly with that "I can't be bothered with you lot" attitude. Here's hoping at least someone got the plate on that Mercedes as well, so that he can be asked... But honestly people. Don't drive stupid. Almost everyone has a smartphone today and so many cars have dash cameras. Do something silly, stupid, idiotic or all of the aforementioned and you may stand a chance to appear here on this very blog. Or any of the associated Facebook pages dedicated to, uh, giving you your 15 minutes in the spotlight for horrendous driving. And if that Mercedes driver does read this, would you care sending some photos over of how your undercarriage looks like now? Just for kicks.
  5. New U-turn to cut Newton Circus traffic A new U-turn designed to reduce traffic going into Newton Circus will open today. The U-turn is for traffic on Bukit Timah Road heading towards Woodlands to change direction and go towards the city. The U-turn was mentioned in February in Parliament by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan. Answering questions from MP Melvin Yong about accidents at Newton Circus, Mr Khaw said improvement works were planned, one of which was for "U-turn facilities at approaching roads to reduce the number of vehicles using the roundabout". The Land Transport Authority (LTA) had considered building an underpass and flyover to improve flow at Newton Circus, often a bottleneck between major roads. Mr Yong shared the news of the U-turn on Facebook yesterday. "A new vehicular U-turn, located underneath the existing Newton Flyover, has been completed and it will be opened to the public with effect from 6am on July 28, 2019 (Sunday)," he wrote. "For motorists travelling along Bukit Timah Road (towards Woodlands) to Bukit Timah Road (towards city), you can expect to shave precious time off your travel journey and avoid driving into Newton Circus." Observers said the new U-turn could itself cause congestion, as vehicles turning back will form a tailback on one lane, impeding access to the roundabout. As the U-turn is sited close to the circus, motorists may still opt to use the roundabout to turn back. In this case, it may not be feasible to build the U-turn farther from the circus as a ramp for a viaduct is in the way. In response to queries, the LTA said the U-turn was part of a road improvement contract awarded to Megastone Holdings. The works include expanding the junctions at Balmoral Road/Bukit Timah Road and Newton Circus and adding four U-turn facilities along the junctions.
  6. Hey all, Asking if anyone have gotten a summon from TP for a right turn just outside the Whampoa Market carpark exit? $70 to compound zero demerit. I have no problem compounding it. Just want to learn why a right turn can become an unauthorised u-turn offence.
  7. Hi bros, recently i've experienced some noise when doing u-turn or at roundabouts or doing turning left/right. Slight turns are fine with no noise. The noise seems to come from the wheel area and there is this sound of squashing plastic bags. I've visually inspected and there is nothing stuck to the wheels but the noise persists. Anyone has any idea what's going on so I can send the car to the right kinda workshop to check?
  8. If I am turning left (from a small road) into main road, while car on opposite road is making u-turn onto the same main road, who should give way ? Does it matter if U-turn point is before, at or after the Left turn point ? An example is Holland Road (from old Holland Road) leading into Ulu Pandan/Holland Road. https://www.google.com.sg/maps/place/Holland+Village/@1.3204469,103.7811163,19.5z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x31da1a6b703bb689:0xabdb7019b6ce5e9https://www.google.com.sg/maps/place/Holland+Village/@1.3204469,103.7811163,19.5z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x31da1a6b703bb689:0xabdb7019b6ce5e9 Cant remember this being mentioned during driving lessons ... or maybe I forgot ...

    U-turn champion

i mean ... why even bother looking for a u-turn or doing a 3 point turn when you can inconvenience everyone else? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zy9wXM0aag&feature=youtu.be
  10. A report has been filed with the Singapore Police Force.. here is the transcript: A white colour Honda Jazz SGNxxxxx did an illegal U-Turn on Lorong Chuan (towards Serangoon Garden Way). When being horned of his dangerous driving by the oncoming vehicle, the arrogant Honda Jazz driver attempted to jam the brakes to intimidate the other driver. - Illegal U-Turn on Lorong Chuan (which is a very narrow & busy road) - Dangerous driving - Driving without due care http://youtu.be/rDz33ZVLEXE?list=UUOTD3GWp-_Hya2oyjN5G-jQ http://youtu.be/rDz33ZVLEXE
  11. May I know why some drivers only like to filter in near the end of the filter lane when doing these turns? traffic condition is normal and is not like they are doing a last min switch also. For U-turns at those non traffic light junctions for example, they like to do this stunt with their vehicle body still at the centre of the filter line right at the turn, which will therefore cause obstruction to vehicles behind that are going straight on that fast lane, sometimes have to jam brake if they never siginal their intention. Issit for easier turning? but the opposite direction is a 3 or 4 lanes road, even a big lorry can do the u-turn with their whole vehicle body inside the filter lane
