Sigh... my cousin just passed, a few weeks after her husband, so I gotta do a quick turnabout trip this weekend.. Got a seat out on an early flight on Air Asia, and back late pm.. Got to make it to Nirvana Memorial Center No.1 Jalan 1/116A, Off Jalan Sungai Besi, 57100 Kuala Lumpur Wife will drop me at T4, and it's an hour flight, then I saw on google maps I can take a train over to the Centre? https://maps.app.goo.gl/hm9bWdb6UATSDvHfA I got my cousin to pay for a return ticket from KLIA to Sentral - its cheaper via app Then it seems a MRT can take me direct to the site, so I don't need a cab... not too bad I will try to buy something at T4 to eat on the flight, and find something on the way back at KLIA T2 Any recommendations or anything decent to eat near Sungai Besi? Will report back on how the trains are in KL - I believe they accept Touch and Go Another cousin recommended this place in T2 KLIA https://www.orientalkopi.asia/menu/ And this Thanks

just attended a funeral wake of a senior who passed away in his mid 40s due to asthma... he can be considered to be a mentor to me and some of my friends when we were starting to play in music bands... sort of lost contact in the past few years and then suddenly heard the news... could tell that his wife was trying to keep it together... it seems so sudden and unexpected... not really considered a personal loss, but a sobering reminder to me nonetheless to treasure our life and the time that we have with our family and loved ones... peace... (PS to mods: please feel free to tag on to any relevant existing threads if any. thanks.)

sgroadaccidents - hold a wake by the roadside and taking up a full lane of the two lane road 3nov2020 lentor loop member of public question the approval of the permit to hold a wake by the roadside and taking up a full lane of the two lane road quoted According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), if a bereaved family intends to hold a wake in a landed property and needs to use part of the road outside the house, a permit from the Traffic Police is required. The funeral director responsible for the wake can handle the applications with the relevant authorities. On Oct 25, I came across a wake along Lentor Loop towards the direction of Lentor Road. This wake was located neither within the premises of a property nor on a road linked to a unit. The wake took up almost a full lane of the main road. It was puzzling to see a wake occupying a main thoroughfare used by residents of Lentor Crescent, Lentor Vale, Lentor Street and Lentor Place. SMRT bus service 825 also plies along this road every 10 to 20 minutes. It should be clear to the authorities that a wake that takes up one full lane of the main road on Lentor Loop is inappropriate and constitutes a safety hazard to road users. Could the Traffic Police and the relevant authorities provide the rationale and reasons for granting the application to hold a wake on Lentor Loop? This would help Singaporeans better understand the government policy on the matter and the requirements for holding a wake within a private estate, as well as how any inconvenience and disamenities to the residents and road users will be minimised. As a small and densely populated city state, there will always be competing requirements for space to meet Singapore’s various development needs. Thus, it is paramount that NEA and the relevant authorities can expedite the upcoming development of four funeral parlour sites. The Government said last year this will be done over the next decade. I hope that the authorities can complete and launch the four new funeral parlours within the next five years instead. https://www.todayonline.com/voices/whats-rule-holding-funeral-wakes-roads-private-estates

This is rather morbid, but hey everyone has to go one day. Got pic to see....... https://sg.news.yahoo.com/puerto-rico-woman-propped-chair-wake-231708318.html SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An 80-year-old Puerto Rican woman has been memorialized at her wake sitting in her favorite rocking chair and wearing her old wedding gown. At a San Juan funeral home, the body of Georgina Chervony Lloren was propped up in her red-cushioned rocking chair Monday and wearing the gown from her second marriage 32 years ago. She was surrounded by plants and flowers. Her daughter, Miriam Chervony, said her mother specified that this was how she imagined her wake. She died Sunday. The wake was held at Marin Funeral Home, which is well-known for putting on unusual, thematic wakes. At one wake, a slain boxer was memorialized standing in a makeshift boxing ring. At another, the deceased was propped up on his motorcycle.

"Some seek PR status only to get hands on CPF savings" http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...531-219249.html LAST Saturday, I was upset by a former colleague who had relinquished his permanent-resident (PR) status in Singapore. He bade me farewell, saying: "I am going back to the Philippines to retire. I cashed out all my CPF (Central Provident Fund) savings but I will come back, as a tourist." He showed me photos of his new home in the Philippines, renovated luxuriously and comparable to a Good Class Bungalow here. His attitude made me see red. Have we taken measures to ensure that only people who genuinely want to settle down in Singapore and contribute to the nation's economic growth are made PRs? I work in human resources, and some of my foreign colleagues who earn less than $2,500 monthly are PRs. Almost all the foreigners in my workplace are vying for PR status. Some do so because the mandatory contributions to their CPF accounts result in savings which they can take out when they decide to leave. For new PRs, the CPF contribution rates are graduated, but they get full rates from the third year onwards (the same contribution rates as Singaporeans). Perhaps the CPF Board should revise the contribution rates for PRs to make it less attractive for those who want the status only for the CPF savings. Foreigners who have become PRs find it easier to apply for jobs in Singapore, compared to those who are on employment passes. PR status aside, are employers providing fair employment opportunities to Singaporeans? Are graduates from Singapore universities not comparable to graduates from foreign universities, such as those in the Philippines, China, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Indonesia? Before employers decide to hire a foreigner, have they exhausted all reasonable recruitment options in Singapore first? It is a myth that foreigners have lower salary expectations than Singaporeans. Of the foreigners who graduated from a university in their home country, the majority whom I have met and interviewed expect much higher salaries than, or salaries comparable to, what a Singaporean with a good local degree would get. Their reasons include having to pay rental fees and utility bills, to remit money to their families and to pay for their children's education in their home country. But Singaporeans also have similar burdens: mortgage payments, utility bills, children's education fees, as well as a sum of money to be put aside for elders as a form of filial piety. Besides, a foreigner's salary could turn out to be quite a substantial sum after currency conversion. I hope that employers will provide employment opportunities to Singaporeans before considering foreigners.

Aug 6, 2008 Indian pilgrim knocked unconscious in stampede wakes up in morgue NEW DELHI - AN INDIAN pilgrim knocked unconscious in a stampede that killed 150 people woke up in a morgue as doctors prepared to perform a postmortem examination on him, a newspaper reported on Wednesday. Mange Ram, 19, lost consciousness in the stampede triggered by rumours of a landslide that caused panic among thousands of people climbing a steep mountain path, the report said. Mr Ram told the Times of India he awoke in a hospital morgue after Sunday's tragedy at the Naina Devi shrine in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. 'When I woke up, I was in the middle of a row of bodies waiting for postmortem,' he said. 'My throat was parched and I asked for water. Towering over me the doctors and nursing staff at Anandpur Sahib Civil Hospital looked dazed.' 'They must have been surprised to see a dead man come alive like that,' he said. Sat Pal Aggarwal, a doctor on the pilgrimage, said few checks were carried out to see if victims were alive and might have been saved. 'People were dumped quite haphazardly into trucks without following any procedure or checking if they were alive,' the paper quoted him as saying. Despite the huge loss of life, the pilgrimage continued only hours after the corpses had been cleared. The temple, devoted to the goddess Naina Devi, sits on a hilltop in the Himalayas and devotees must climb a narrow stairway to reach it. It has been the site of previous deadly accidents. Crowd control is poor in India and stampedes are common. Three years ago, 257 Hindu devotees, mainly women and children, were crushed to death in a stampede at a religious pilgrimage in western India. -- AFP Wonder what would happen if they had started to cut him up before he awoke?

Europe has the most progressive environmental standards globally. With the widest range of DIESEL passenger cars on the road. Strictest emission standards. You would think that LTA would've realised the Europeans are onto something. What's the point of pushing CNG? - When the only place you can pump is on jurong island?? What's the point of expensive oil co. sponsored BioDIESEL trials? - Long drawn, on a limited set of expensive vehicles??? When the ANSWER is in our FACES. 500% tax for DIESEL Private Passenger Vehicles. Are we still living in the 70s? The average diesel car has easily 50% efficiency than its petrol counterpart. Is our dear COUNTRY slave to the oil cartels?
