  1. The sun is rising from the west? Will foresee a lot of nonsense coming up just before the next GE, and let see how our various ministries handle them. 😅 Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/spore-exploring-petition-platform-where-10000-signatures-guarantee-ministry-response SINGAPORE - Singaporeans may soon get a new avenue to voice their concerns through a platform where petitions that garner 10,000 supporters will be submitted to the relevant ministries for review. A prototype of the platform, known as PetitionsSG, has been up since January this year. Currently, petitions can be started and processed on the site, but nothing will be sent to the Government. Senior software engineer Alwyn Tan at Open Government Products - the platform's developer - said in response to queries from The Straits Times that PetitionSG was created with the goal of empowering citizens to push for change and to connect the most important sentiments from the ground to ministries. He was one of a team of five who worked on the project. Open Government Products is an experimental development team within the GovTech which works on technology for the public sectors.
  2. Another victim of PMD. 65 years old Ah Ma in coma. The floor is quite bloody. The chinese paper has eye witness who saw the rider shouting he is not in the wrong. Who would expect the severity of these type of accident be brought over from the main road into the pedestrian pathway becoz LTA's car lite , last mile policy. What the use of emphasizing the rules at the end of the article. No reminding will work when the riders consciously chose to ignore them. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/cyclist-65-in-a-coma-after-accident-with-e-scooter-rider-in-bedok-north
  3. Dear all, In view of the increasing number of accidents at traffic-light junctions where vehicles have hit and killed crossing pedestrians, I will be writing to LTA to propose changing the right-turn signalling sequence at all traffic-light junctions with pedestrian crossings. Presently many traffic-light right-turn signalling works by allowing the pedestrians to cross the roads simultaneously as vehicles turn right across their paths. This method theoretically reduces the overall waiting time for everyone in the system because it allows right-turning motorists to utilise pockets of time to go-ahead whenever there are no crossing pedestrians. However, due to fatigue, carelessness, blind-spots and other reasons, there have been many instances of pedestrians getting run over by right-turning vehicles. Many of such accidents involve larger vehicles which, due to their size and larger blind-spots, are harder to control. I would like to propose that the right-turning signalling be changed at such junctions so that right-turning vehicles cannot proceed to do so until the traffic lights have turned red for the crossing pedestrians. While this cannot totally eradicate similar accidents that arise due to jay-walking pedestrians, it will likely reduce the overall accident rates given that most pedestrians do obey the traffic crossing signals. Through this petition I hope LTA will treat this issue with greater urgency and have it implemented sooner than later before more innocent lives are lost. If you support this initiative, please indicate your user name below and I will update this first post: a. OmOm b. I will send out the petition to LTA once we achieve at least 50 (do suggest if you think this number could be smaller or larger) on this list. Thanks to all for your help!

  6. NIMBY Version 3.0 [shakehead] From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1260600/1/.html Petition against setting up of childcare centre at rooftop garden By Lip Kwok Wai | Posted: 17 March 2013 2214 hrs Ow Bin Bing SINGAPORE: Some Punggol residents are petitioning against the set-up of a childcare centre at the rooftop garden of a multi-storey carpark. A closed-door dialogue session was held with residents on Sunday. It's understood that officers from the HDB and the Social and Family Development Ministry were also present. Some residents told Channel NewsAsia they were informed about the plans to set up the centre at Block 180 Edgefield Plains, last week. Some were concerned about the safety of the children, adding that there's already a childcare centre within the vicinity. Others felt that doing so goes against the government's push to allocate more green spaces within housing estates. Still, there were residents who felt the rooftop garden has been under-utilised and can be put to better use. One resident said she's garnered about 20 to 30 signatures for the petition. Ow Bin Bing said: "If the small kids - two months old baby to seven years small kids, if anything happened, how can they run for their life? Let's say if there was a fire or anything, I have been teaching for 27 years, I know the small kids are very active, if anything were to happen, who will be responsible for their safety?" When contacted, MP for the area Penny Low said there are plans to build more childcare centres in Punggol. She said some locations are suitable, while others are not. And added that ground consultations and innovative use of space are needed, to make sure residents' needs are met. - CNA/ck

  14. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/teochuankee/ Stop capitalizing heartland provision shop This petition is started to bring awareness to the neighborhood community resident residing at and around Blk 468B Admiralty Drive. It have come to my knowledge that our good and cheap source of product, our dear heartland provision shop – Teo Chuan Kee Mini-Mart, will be handing over the shop to ‘Shop & Save’. This mini-mart had been providing the surrounding residences cheap source of household product for about half a decade. Base on my understanding, the boss ‘Derrick’ and their staffs whom my family and a lot of family have grew to know and have had no intention of vacating this shop. Even both my son of 3 & half yr old and 21 months have grown to like him and his staffs because of their friendliness. The mini-mart will cease operation with effect from 24th Sept 09. In its replacement you will get, an all powerful backing min-mart, with none friendly faces with average or higher than provision shop price. In this current economy and time, it makes me wonder why the Town council would or HDB insisted on vacating them and thus depriving us, the residence, of such a good source for cheap and good household products which we need on a daily basics.

First, I must say, I am not the one who put up the petition [/size] I read today's Straits Time which saying that some used car association wants to ask government to cut COE quota immediately or else the used car market will collapse. Like this also can? Anyone have access to the online version can post here?
  18. As above. Apollo has contributed many useful information to this forum. Unfortunately, he was recently involved in some name-calling incidents which resulted in him being barred from MCF. Many of us believe that this is an one-off incident and he should be given a second chance after a period of restricted access. Some of us might want to bail Apollo out. Let me put my name in the list:- (1) Albeniz

  21. http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/news/20070212_009.html Million sign e-petition against UK road pricing - Feb 12, 2007 Reuters More than a million Britons have signed an online petition calling on British Prime Minister Tony Blair to abandon plans for a national vehicle tracking and road pricing system. The experimental "e-petition", hosted on Blair's 10 Downing Street website, passed the million mark at the weekend after a surge in support. "The petition gained 300,000 names in five days," said Nigel Humphries of motorist pressure group the Association of British Drivers (ABD). "Road pricing is just another tax -- and a tax that is unfair, expensive to administer and difficult and inconvenient to collect," he said. The petition, which closes on February 20, was submitted by ABD member Peter Roberts and calls on Blair to abandon road pricing and instead "concentrate on improving our roads to reduce congestion." The government is considering proposals to charge motorists for every mile they drive, using satellite tracking technology, with prices depending on the location and the time of day in a bid to counter a growing congestion problem. Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander told the Times the petition would not deter him from commissioning road-pricing trials. "The response to this petition makes the case for more debate, not less, on the issue of road pricing," he said. "It makes me more determined to debate the real issues about how we tackle growing congestion." Initial estimates suggest a tracking scheme could cost drivers up to 1.34 pounds a mile to drive in the busiest areas at rush hour. Transport chiefs argue that unless radical action is taken there will be gridlock on some of Britain's roads in 20 to 30 years. The government has pledged 10 million pounds to fund research into road pricing. Last December a government-sponsored report on transport led by former British Airways chief Rod Eddington said charging motorists to use roads was the only viable option.
